[justify]Ah, It has been a very long time since I've posted a map here, and I think it's appropriate to come back to this forum with this map. I know you all have been waiting anxiously, constantly refreshing the aesthetic forum page for this, and here it is, Camp Forever Alone. Camp Forever Alone is very different than my other aesthetic maps. I've tried to make this one more as a map with a cluster of ideas for other people, and cut down on the forge-only aesthetics. Within the map there are different objects using your regular forge pieces that you can implement into your own playable maps. Things such as the outhouse, snake, cup, and tent are things that do not require any objects that can only be viewed in forge. But a map with just those would be a 'zatherla' type of map, so I've incorporated other things to balance it out. Although this map is a 'cluster of ideas' as mentioned before, it still keeps the camp theme, with the portable grill, fishing rods, marshmallows on a stick, and various animals places around the map. Feeling lonely? I guess that's too bad, because the both of us know that no one is coming to visit. [/justify]
Holy ****, this map is awesome, I like the amount of detail you put into the map, I like the Ipod and the Portapotty, they look amazingly detailed, but it would be nice to see some apps on the ipod though. What I like most is the grill, it's my favorite.
This map isn't competitive so it must suck. let's not even give it a try and ignorantly judge it harshly based solely on the fact that it isn't competitive. Confused yet? Yeah, me too. Anyways, forging societal critiques aside, let's give this map some fair thought. The level of detail is pretty spectacular, and makes the map pretty unique. The iPod and 6-pack in particular always caught my eye. My only complaint? In a map so focused on minute details, why would grass be left to stick out of a sign marked with miniature writing? At this scale, the grass is actually somewhat inexcusable. Overall though, this is certainly a great aesthetic map.
Aside from the unwarranted and inapplicable bragging, I felt like the presentation was good and the jokes were entertaining. I personally liked that you focused on smaller details with this piece, and I'm happy to see you getting away from your generic spawn camera and spawn point usage. That was really starting to get a little distasteful. Good on you for keeping your structures and details in proportion to one another; it looks as though you built them to accommodate a civilian rather than an armored spartan. As far as I see things, if you're going to use smaller proportions, at least keep them consistent around the map. Good job. That being said, the case of drinks should have a handle, the fishing rod should be brown instead of green, the outhouse has an enormous and disproportioned roof, the ribbed cup is awful and just needs to go, the sign has grass poking through it, and the map is just tiny in general and can be covered within fifteen seconds of spawn. I feel like if you spread **** around, players are not bombarded with intricate details and can truly appreciate each piece for what it is. Oh, and yeah: IMO.
Aww... a camp built in my honor :3 Jokes aside, I'm glad you're starting to post maps again. Your work never ceases to amaze me, especially with this one. You said there were animals on the map, although I only caught a snake. Overall amazing job! Keep forging these maps!
You are so talented at converting these pieces into everyday objects and you've got quite an extensive repertoire. I just had a strange thought though. What would you make if given game building software? Would you maintain your stylistic distorted copy of reality or go with something with a little more verisimilitude / hyperrealistic? I'm a fan, I want to know what makes you tick
Seriously? Apps? That must be a joke. Looks pretty cool, Zath. I remember you showed me this awhile back when it was still a work in progress. There's tons of detail, as usual, and it looks great. I'll have to check it out sometime. Oh yeah, and Zath, you should make a competitive map. That'd be interesting to see.
No! Don't tempt him! I've seen where this road leads. And Zath, this is pretty awesome. The iPod, fishing rod with line, and other features are amazing. I'd be scared to see what you could to with a real modeling program.
I think your missing the point. I'm glad you finally posted this, Zath. I am still expecting more maps from you however.
The sign when created had no grass sticking out, but over time with getting the perfect height to easily place spawn points perfectly, it was really difficult to get that grass out of the way, I tried to make it as unnoticeable as possible, but sometimes that just isn't enough. Hey Mingo, To sum up on your last paragraph, the case of drinks did have a handle, built into all four sides of the box. The fishing rod was originally brown but with lots of people coming into the map and giving pointers, the majority of the people said that a colored fishing rod would look nicer on he map and we went with the color green. Yes, the outhouse does have a roof that is very large for the size of the outhouse, but I really couldn't find any other piece to put there since the outhouse was in the open. Originally this map was to span the entire island, and I had to begin a cabin near the beach with a dock and boat, but while this version of the map progressed, there were so many things on the map that It was hard to put alot of detail into things. In the end I decided to just put everything in a single camp site.
****ing finally released it after like 10 years, looks amazing as usual, the porta potty is new to me, I like it.
I just finished a minigame/causal/competitive or something type map. And another aesthetic map is in the works.
Today I called my parents to tell them I found love...lol. I am certainly not the first, nor will I be the last, so I may as well say along with the rest of the group that your map is fantastic! You should try other meme based themes.
