You clearly know nothing about Bakemonogatari and it's characters then. She looks like a child because she lost most of her power when she turned the main character into a vampire, she regains her older looking form when she drinks his blood.

As if American animation isn't dead. Only American animation that comes close to the depth of story that alot of Anime have, is Avatar, and that is because it is mimicking Anime.

America has stupid **** like Adventure Time, Japan has stupid **** like Bobo Bobobo.

Started the first episodes of Campione and Arcana Famiglia. Campione is giving me some good vibes, just starting the Arcana Famiglia episode.

Adventure Time is stupid ****? dude... there's more heart, throwback animation, and continuity in that show to make any anime filled with creepy pedophile bait **** its pants.

"She looks like a child because she lost most of her power when she turned the main character into a vampire, she regains her older looking form when she drinks his blood."
    depth!

If you have no intention of discussing anime here, stop posting in here.

I take that back, I would just appreciate you not devaluing Anime as a genre just because of a select few that exist that you do not like.

Didn't you just insult a show... and he defended it?

Isn't that what discussion is? I mean, if you didn't want that show even in here, why bring it up?

I mean it's a fair point against me saying I don't comment in here because of all the 5-year-old characters and such, but I never once said "DON'T DISCUSS THE TOPIC I JUST BROUGHT UP" to seal the end of an argument I wanted the final word in.

Haha, I agree, American animation is going to **** in my opinion. However, the Regular Show is an exception. I've only seen a couple episodes of Adventure Time, so I can't judge it.

Chuck, trust me, Bakemonogatari has plenty of depth beyond that. Although it does have fanservice, it's the greatest recent anime in my opinion because of the latter. Also, you forgot Mamoru Hasoda and Makoto Shinkai. Two exceptional directors.

i didnt bring american animation into this, that was all you. i'm merely replying.

maybe instead you could have replied with some good modern anime recommendations that arent filled with little girl vampires in short skirts bs to prove a point instead of bashing something unrelated.

    EDIT
    thanks sarge.

    Edited by merge:

well, anything with vampires is something i tend to stray away from.

and to be fair, american animation always felt inferior to me, especially the superhero stuff from the 90s, but if you ask me it's on the rise as of recent, and thats probably because theyre taking notes from quality anime from years back.

because I totally didn't already do that...

As for the part you got stuck on, I reworded what I meant, possibly whilst you were replying already.

Hellsing is good, but the Ultimate OVA version is better. link

Vampire Hunter D and Blood+ are good as well. Don't go near Blood C- though, it sucks. You would most likely wouldn't like Blood+ though, you seem like the type who doesn't like angsty teenage girl protagonists.

why would I go a direction that I had already gone... that makes no sense.

EDIT: I mean, I already defended my position with that recommendation list, I shouldn't need to give ANOTHER to prove my point. It's just unreasonable to have me recommend several recent anime that fit those criteria, then tell me to do it again not even 4 hours later.

Can you understand how I could get a little irritated from that?

yeah that would be stupid and would make no sense, you made the right call in quoting the post. all i was saying was there were different ways to go about it, not necessarily my bad example.

You know what was/is a good anime? Teen Titans.

Man I was so sad when
    ~Spoilers for final episode~

Beast Boy and Terra don't get back together during the final episode, because she just wants to move on with her life

    Beast Boy makes me LOL.

That is not Anime. Neither is Avatar for that matter. (I've heard people call Avatar Anime, but never Teen Titans...)

Sure it might not be one of those hoity-toity "15-year-old-girls-with-demon-arms-and-short-skirts" anime that you guys are into, but that doesn't mean it isn't just as anime.

Back to discussing the thread title please. It's nice to see an Western Animation vs. Anime debate but this thread is meant for the Anime side.

What's wrong with every anime having an 8 year old on the front? For me I like the silly situations that some series get their characters into because it makes me laugh and sometimes even bring back some cherished memories of my own childhood and how carefree and peaceful it was.

Everyone likes different things. Maybe slice of life anime isn't everyone's cup of tea but I personally like it. It's a bit less taxing on the brain compared to some of the more action heavy series.

EDIT: We all know Teen Titans is a western animation, therefore it is NOT anime.

Unless you live in Japan, where Anime is used to refer to any animation regardless of where it was made, for anywhere outside of japan though the word Anime refers to animations produced in Japan or of the same style as those made in Japan. Generally it is based on opinion regarding anything in this grey area that Avatar and the likes sit in, and general consensus is that they aren't Anime.

EDIT: Agreed Sky, it escalated and stupid things were said and we got derailed.

Why can't we be like the Japanese, who don't see anime in terms of "west or other". Raising all these walls and drawing all these lines in the sand is just going to leave the thread rigid and stale. Wouldn't it be nice to discuss a show without the expectation of being able to jack off to it? I've always thought that's the reason none of you like Cowboy Bebop.

That's really well put. Oh wait.

So much Irony my heart might literally burst.
