Almost a year ago, I made a Halo Reach minigame variant of the well known carnival game Whack-a-Mole. People liked it for its originality, and because it's a real challenge to snipe your opponents. However, I'm now probably going to remake this map and make it better overall, because it did have its flaws, yet I do like the idea behind it. I do have a lot more ideas for original minigames which you should hear about sometime this summer whenever they're done, but since this was my first successful and somewhat original minigame, I don't want it to end like this. I'm probably going to replace the King of the Hill gametype with the Insane gametype to make a better scoring system too. There is one major issue though that might establish whether or not I am going to remake it: How can I make it fun for the attacking team? Every good minigame is created in such a way that it's fun for all players, and except for the challenge to snipe back at the sniper tower, my W-a-M map just doesn't have that feature. So please, if you have tips or ideas on how I could do that, let me down below and I will definitely give you credit if I'm going to use it! PS: And of course, if you know how to fix other errors from the original map, let me know too.
What if someway the moles could snipe back at the attackers. But snipe a mine for points, so the attackers would be invincible. I don;t know, but its a suggestion, rather than just picking a hole then doing it over and over.
The attackers are technically the moles, but I get your point And it's a good suggestion, I'll think about it! Thanks!
Not fighting back, but rather triggering a point scoring system by shooting a device only seen when jumping would be great. You know, rather than just jumping to maybe get headshotted. Perhaps this could be a way to gain a few extra points when not 'defending' against the 'moles' and give more purpose to using those lifts. I'm thinking give them a DMR and task them with shooting one of 3 buttons, the closest gives 1 pt, middle gives 2, and farthest gives 3 (or something like this).
Could be cool indeed, maybe I can place those things above the sniper nest. Since I'm using the HaloBall gametype anyway, it could definitely work out to give them a reason to jump. But DMR will be difficult, since I have to give the attackers the same weapon and a DMR would make it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too easy to kill the moles. I'll probably stick with sniper since it's more of a challenge anyway for the moles to score those extra points
I think staying true to the original game would make it more fun. If you're using the infection gametype, the moles could continue to have snipers, but the defenders get gravity hammers instead. Of course, this would mean that the arena would have to be shrunk dramatically to give the latter a fighting chance. Also, you could have something the moles can jump on to pop their heads out of the hole instead of being launched through the air. It's kind of far out there, but that's my two cents.
I've tried Infection with the original map too but it failed. King of the Hill turned out to be a success, but I think I can get even better scoring systems with Insane gametypes. And I definitely don't want to use grav hammers: I want to stay original and there's a reason why I made the map so different from other Whack a Mole maps in Halo. But thanks for your advice anyway!
