Carbine makes me sad, that thing looked hella fun. But the Storm Rifle (from the little I saw of it) looked really powerful and actually had me a little worried. Not only did it seem to strip away shields really quickly, but it killed near instantly as soon as shields were popped. I'm not disappointed to hear them talking about nerfing.

Bit late but at least 343 got the aesthetics of the overshield right... you know, like actually being able to see it (bungie you idiots)

Carbine make me very sad as well. However, I would enjoy a more "precision" auto weapon akin to the ACR. I was hoping the storm would be that. I hadn't actually seen it in action yet other than small clips.

They'll nerf the storm rifle into extinction, just like all the other plasma weapons.

    Bahaha, it's funny....because it's true.

Definitely have mixed feelings about what I saw at E3 for Halo. Grenades look nice and nerfed, but they're still very heavy like Reach. I really wanted the floaty H3 grenades back, they seemed to work much better. Also, the fuse on the H4 grenades is very short :(

Armor Abilities look great with the obvious exception the Promethean Vision, which could use a nice fat nerf shovel to the groin. DMR and BR look great (wish the BR wasn't hitscan, makes things a bit too easy). Carbine looked awesome, makes me sad to hear it's being weakened, I didn't see much of the storm rifle so I can't comment on that. Visually the game looks nice, would've been better if they built a new engine like Bungie always did, but what can you do :/ Maps look well designed (which is a good change from Reach), but very very large :/ Obviously to accommodate sprint, which I hate hate hate hate hate hate HATE. Noooo sprint :( Ruins my crouch jumping, which is pretty much obsolete now. Call me crazy, but I feel like knowing how to jump has always been a huge part of Halo, whether it came down to making it to a ledge by crouch jumping or any of the MLG jumps, they all seem obsolete now with the disappearance of crouch on the thumbstick. Sigh, I'll wait to see what MLG does with the settings.

Overall, a lot of my faith is back. But Im still disappointed to see the coming of many unneeded changes to Halo.

^Bungie has had the same engine since halo 1, but they heavily modify it for new games.

I would actually say the improvement in terms of visuals from Reach to Halo 4 looks to be the best yet.

That's been a feature of overshield since the original Halo. I don't know if it was or wasn't in Reach, since the overshield was both nerfed and demoted to near-non-existence, but I can tell you that OS did that in Halos 1-3, and MLG never had a problem with it that I know of. It forced situational awareness and it was awesome for glitching and tricking, too.

You and your tricks. Maybe H4 will offer some sweet new opportunities for tricks and whatnot.

I know Reach had the invulnerability. I dont like that it's there and I hope they remove or lower that time, but honestly it doesnt bother me much. Though I am slanted toward casual play.

Probably not. Tricking is not quite the fearsome frontier it used to be - there are too many easy tools now for getting out of maps, between jetpacks and forge and abundant flying vehicles, etc. In the original Halo it was a hell of a lot of work to get anywhere interesting, and the techniques had an appealingly low-tech feel to them. The OS thing in particular was a great find - I used it to be the first person to get to the bottom of the map Damnation. (It wasn't my idea, I was just the first person that pulled it off.)

Its never been as long as that video shows, though. 10 seconds is a hell of a long invincibility reward. Plus, for Halo 3 at least, there was the potential for burning OS if you weren't careful, which went at least some way to offsetting the advantages (brief invincibility being one of them). That said, its worth noting that MLG specifically opted to keep the brief invincibility when designing their CPU based OS in Halo 3, so you're definitely right that they can't dislike it too much as a mechanic.

H4's OS is burnable as well. I'll try to find the video it was displayed in.

I actually didn't see the part of the video that was being referenced - if it's really that long, then yeah, that's far too long. But as a general mechanic, I don't mind it at all.

See for yourself. It was a standalone video I posted a while back:

Halo 4 Overshield in Action - YouTube

As I said before, this could well be subject to tweaking, or perhaps even a glitch?

OK, whoa. That is messed up and I would think (hope) has to be a glitch. In previous Halos as far as I can recall, the invulnerability effect lasted only so long as the shield was visibly charging - in this video the charge happens faster but then invulnerability goes on (and on, and on) past that point. That's really weird.

Another possibility is that the overshield is an uncommon or hard to obtain ordinance drop making the invulnerable period a balancing mechanism to make the power-up worth getting.

Not like being invulnerable for 6 shots means the death of multiplayer as we know it and as mentioned before that could easily be tweaked.

Pac. 6 shots is over an extra life. You get +2 free lives from an overshield. I would call that "slightly" overpowered.

Watch this documentary. It's very relevant.
