I feel stupid asking this, but what exactly would the undo option be helpful for? If you press A on an item in the menu and produce it, undo would delete it, and if you press a to place it, undo would be like picking it up again, right? Both seem like 1 step processes without undo, but I know I'm forgetting something. I remember that picking up a non-rotation snapped object with rotation snap forced me to precisely rotate it again, but I can't think of anything else. Providing a choice of better textures to me seems like the most intuitive, desired, and I'm guessing possible improvement. To me it seems like almost half of the comments on maps on this site include some judgement on aesthetics; it would save forgers time on experimenting with aesthetics by making it easier to make maps "not ugly", while giving those who want to work on that aspect more possibilities as well. I might be naive to think that the option to change the color of small lights in reach means that they weren't that far away from being able to create different textures, though. I've also heard others wish for a grid snap that you could move objects through without changing dimension numbers in the menu.
Difficult to say without knowing what sort of interface we'll be working with. I can say for sure that I will remake some of my own work, I have some maps which have been made in both Halo 3 and Reach so Id like to continue remaking them in future games.
I had a short post here, but then realized that it doesn't really say everything I want it to, so wishlist V2, in no particular order: -Monitor Noclip. this would be incredibly useful to making intricate maps or interior spaces. -Transparency (only in forge) possibly an option to enable/disable. would help with above. -more flat land. in forge maps, specifically. not saying that hills are bad at all, and in fact can lead to quite interesting designs, but more flat space would be nice. and that means outdoors, too; the coliseum in reach just doesn't provide any room to make BIG things. -More natural forge pieces. Rocks, trees, flat sheets with grass on them, you name it. -More variety in shapes. this one explains itself. -better coordinate system. the coordinates currently are VERY helpful, but if they (and rotation/movement as well) were based on a bounding-box corner instead of center...well, things would be great. -shading bugs. as in, remove them. just give me a constant shading, rather than making things brighter or darker. -pieces moving between customs and forge. just...don't do the same thing Bungie did with coliseum walls. please. -FPS problems. this should explain itself. -a despawn timer. this has GOT to be possible somehow. -MOAR COLOR. not gray, please. the tiny bit of color on pieces in forge world doesn't count. other than that, I think reach did very well. I'd also like if they were to bring back the options bungie removed from H3. I *liked* being able to have camo that was actually camo.
No Forge Plans as of yet, I want to get familiar with the controls. I hope they do something better than Halo Reach for Halo 4. Halo Reach was a big step in the right direction for Forge, just hope they can make another big step. My Forge Wish List: Breakable Glass More UNSC/Covenant themed walls/floors Multiple Forge Worlds Weather and Day/Night settings Boats (plox) Copy/Paste function (Copy something by selecting all of the items in one area, then paste and move it around in another area.) Chairs you can actually sit on without looking stupid. Buttons that move things Programmable Covenant/UNSC AI Life sized Covenant/UNSC Figurines (For Machinima) Ability to shape/reshape natural land Larger budget Ability to change color of any object
For accidentally rotating something way out of line, it wuld be a quick fix [br][/br]Edited by merge: I have always wanted to be able to just draw the boarders of the map, not messing around with the circles and boxes of soft safe areas, those take to long, u shuld just purine the area than choose how high it goes, simple, also a larger forgeworl and a forest region and the ability to place trees, also another idea is to be able to tunnel caves into existing forgeworld objects like rocks
For some reason I keep hearing rumors that Halo 4's forge will be just like Far Cry's map editor. Don't know who came up with that, but I want forge to be like Reach's forge, that is, with all the things broken fixed. So far this is what I want: Textures - Instead of giving us all forerunner pieces, give us the option to make each piece change the texture. For example, make a standard wall a UNSC texture, a Covenant texture, a forerunner texture, hell, maybe even a flood texture. Just not too much gray. Variety of canvases - There were two problems that I had with Forge World that prevented me from making any maps. 1, Forge World's environment is all alpine, which isn't a problem, but it lacks theme. This isn't a huge issue, but back in Halo 3, all of the forge maps had their own theme. One was a UNSC warehouse (Foundry), another was an arctic forerunner setting (Avalanche), and the last was a nearly empty desert made entirely for forge (no prizes for guessing this one). In Reach, all we have is Forge World. Tempest is a little bit meh, and Ridgeline is not too bad, but it's still tricky to forge around. I wish for multiple Forge Worlds, one with a desert theme, one with an arctic theme, maybe even a tropical theme. 2, I've recently noticed that Forge World was made entirely for Bungie rather than suiting our own needs. The quarry was made for Asylum, the island for Paradiso, the pillar for Pinnacle, and we all know what the canyon was made for. Yes, people have found their way around these to make their maps, but there is nothing that we can do to somehow have the map look our way. I'm not asking for a terrain editor, but going back to the multiple Forge Worlds, give us some canvases that were made for our needs. PLEASE 343i, don't make all of them just for you. That's pretty much all I have to say for the moment.
A map similar to sandbox (the shape, not the theme) would be freaking great. But of course, that would be easiest to render
forgot something else: let us turn on/off the "decompressed" effects, or make them into an area piece that we can place down. by"decompressed" I mean the effects in the "outside" parts of anchor 9 or zealot. the outer-space floaty-jumps and the muffled sound is cool. this would apply to that outer-space empty map.
I'm getting the feeling h4 forge will be just like reach's, if not a little better. by just like reach's I mean maybe the same objects. I say this because 343 just doesn't seem like they're much into the forge at all, they really seem to just be worried about the campaign/wargames/multiplayer. If everyone remembers, when we were waiting for reach to be released there was huge talk about forge, and bungie let us know much about it and they seemed really happy with what they made. 343 has yet to bring up much of anything about forge.
I'm pretty sure Bungie didn't release anything about Forge until the launch date was nearing. They may have hinted at it, but most information we got came from the ViDoc, which was pretty close to launch. If I had to guess, I would expect something very similar from 343. Keep in mind, this is the first load of the game that has been presented to us by 343 themselves, and they're undoubtedly getting info about campaign and multiplayer out there first because that's what the majority is interested in.
I want: Frame rate issues fixed In game flashing gone More canvases Less Grey More variety of objects Several settings, snow, grass, water, sand etc (Same as more canvases) More Blocks More blocks like in Halo 3, barrels, pallets, radios, etc That type of stuff.
