playing infection on Uncongealed. i jumped on someone's head to get to a higher spot. idiot jumps, falls off the map and and i get infected by some idiot who was committing suicide.
*Shrug* Personal preference I guess. Most of the Hog Potato games I play usually end up becoming "get the hog and park it behind your base until it splodes". If Hog Potato was played on a faster-paced map and there were mechanisms in place to prevent camping the hog so effectively, I might feel differently.
Well, there was the time that I accidentally betrayed my team with rockets in under five seconds. Suffice it to say, rockets are NOT my forte.
Well yeah, in matchmaking Hog Potato sucks because nobody knows how to wait by the spawns and it sucks trying to run across Hemorrhage.. I like playing it in custom games because it's harder to camp on Assylum.
Went -18 in a TU Hot Potato against a team of inheritors. **** the Team Objective playlist and **** people that run around in groups against randoms.
They don't choose to be matched against randoms, you can hardly resent them for it. Fair enough to blame the playlist, I personally think that objective playlists should try harder to match parties with parties cause it matters more in objective games, but tbh I hate being matched randoms vs parties in any gametype.
Agreed. They should really use the 'parties get matched against parties' option in every playlist in the competitive section (except for Rumble Pit for obvious reasons) in my opinion. In my experience as a random and as a party it is way more fun to get matched against a similar team, even as party v random. I never really enjoy it even from the party perspective as it just isn't fair, and usually half of the other team quits anyway. I like a challenge in party games, and fairness in random games. They have the tools to change the playlists; I don't see why 343 doesn't get about doing that.
Precisely. Steam rolling isn't really that fun, nor is the more common scenario of the other team quitting out one by one. I can see why they think it's more important in Arena, and that it's arguably better to get regular matches in social (for want of a better word) than to wait ages, but it just ends up frustrating me on either end of the deal.
The best part is when you're on a team of randoms and **** all over the entire party on your own while your hapless team mates run around like headless chickens. Doesn't matter if you win or lose, you've just embarrassed an entire team on your own.
True. Wait times would be most noticeable in smaller playlists, but I think I'd rather wait three more minutes than suffer through twelve minutes of a game that feels more like a chore because of the one-sided nature of the teams. I can't speak for everyone else, but I think at least objective, slayer/super slayer (I haven't been in regular slayer in a long time, but I imagine it's a problem there too), MLG and BTB should at least have a priority to match parties against parties, even if it is a small attempt and not really always the case. Damn I miss Squad Slayer...that playlist had a healthy population, TU settings, and party matchups. Why did they have to trash it?
I particularly agree about MLG (obviously). Interesting fact on that point, though: the reason the MLG playlist isn't matched party vs party is nothing to do with Bungie/343, it's actually a request by Killa KC of MLG. We assume this is to reduce wait times in a playlist with historically low population, but he's never spoken publicly on the matter (to my knowledge) and it's a bit of a sore point, especially since the playlist is actually a lot healthier since ZBNS was introduced so we could probably get by on party vs party now. @Sky: that was the majority of my experience in Squad Slayer tbh. That's not so much me trying to be cocky, but testament to the poor matching system in terms of both party size and player skill.
I got betrayed by a team of Grade A douchebags while trying to deliver the bomb so I could get the weekly challenge, but they kept betraying me so that they could get more kills. If you're interested: http://www.forgehub.com/forum/blogs/spl4tterman/3444-why-guy-allowed-halo.html
Here was a fun one: playing heavies on one of the new forge BTB maps (I *think* it was Rasu - anyway it was one of the ones in the canyon). Driving a warthog around and amazingly, having success with a small wheelman streak going. We blew past an enemy wraith and I figured my best bet was to get as far from it as possible. I saw lots of open ground and headed for it, past the enemy base. I got a soft kill warning, then less than a second later, the hog a-sploded and killed me and my gunner both. Who is forging some of these maps? For god's sake, put up a coliseum wall barrier, or some EXTREMELY clear markers. And if you're going to have a soft kill followed by a hard kill, make it more than a two foot cushion - a vehicle going full speed isn't going to be able to stop quick enough to not die. Very, very annoying.
I got booted yesterday because the falcon I shot down by unloading two clips of a DMR into it fell on a teammate. Do I win the thread?
Unfortunately when you leave a game early you can't save the film and I had no friends in the game to do it for me.
Driving along "the package" in a revnant trying to get the challenge where you don't die, speed up, hit a pebble, go flying 9000+ feet to the left off a cliff.
I played only one of these maps so far, I believe it was Asphalt, but that map was sooo crappy already that it was a huge step forward in me recently deciding to quit Matchmaking for a long time. However, since I found out that the 4 new Invasion maps that were entered into Matchmaking in June are exactly those 4 maps featured on THFE that I really really liked just by looking at the video, I think that that might just get me back into Matchmaking, or at least into Invasion again - for the time being. (However, the general Halo Reach Matchmaking playing community consists of horrible cocks and freaking noobs, so I'm not sure how long it will last, because it might become a disappointing experience playing on those maps in MM if most players don't know how to play them, or even Invasion in general.) And to stay on-topic: I've had so many terrible experiences in Matchmaking, I just don't know where to begin. There's a reason I'm playing Halo 3 matchmaking nowadays, next to custom games and forge in Reach.
