I wish I could edit the op, but I guess I could just post it. I'll compile all of the new stuff and links for today and post it near the end of the day or so.
So here is all the news from yesterday. Here is what I was thinking format wise. Will this work for you guys? Halo 4 News of 5/9 -Halo Bulletin. Not the best bulletin, it just discusses Grunts and their new looks for the most part. -Book of H4 concept art to be released in November. -Halo 4 almost finished. [OXM Article.] -Inside Xbox Video w/ Josh Holmes. Spoiler Defining Halo 4: Inside xbox - YouTube
Don't assume that everyone that doesn't like these changes is competitive. I'm pretty casual; until I hear some promising news, I'm pretending H4 never shipped with a multiplayer. And to anyone that cares, no, I'm not one of those guys that's not going to play b/c "hurr durr it"s not exactly the same as the other games." But it should at least keep the basic, already established principles. If 343i can deliver on things like even starts, contestables, and basically just build off of H3 (but still evolve), maybe then I'll change my mind. [br][/br]Edited by merge: (Oh, and also, please balance Infection. It should have at least some semblance of fairness for the zombies)
Wasn't my intention to be all-encompassing in that post. Someone asked why all the complaining, and I was just explaining where most of it is coming from. Suffice to say that most of the complaints are about perceived non-competitive elements of the game, and most of that perception is coming (directly or indirectly) from competitive players. There are certainly other people complaining about the same things, and other things as well (for instance I didn't even touch on the armor designs, which have been grumbled about quite a bit in all quarters). But most of the complaints come squarely from guys who live and die by the zero-bloom DMR.
Same here. As I mentioned before, I see those things as crucial to Halo multiplayer and I don't know if I'll play a game that's changed it's core principles to a system that I detest in most if not all multiplayer games. Halo campaign, as they've revealed it so far, looks pretty damn great. On the flipside, Halo multiplayer, as they've revealed it so far, is dead to me. That's the category that I usually mark as rent for the story; leave after I've gotten enough of a taste of the multiplayer to support my decision to give it back. But on the topic of news, this thread on waypoint makes it worth checking their forums for news. It's stickied. Other than that thread, I mostly avoid waypoint. I can't stand the polarization and ignorance that reigns there.
Halo 4 News of 5/10 Not much today... -Frankie on playlists. -New info soon? Frankie from Neogaf. -2 new GI video interviews. Frankie talks about Halo Wars and 343's approach to the Halo universe.
I'm kinda stunned to see Frankie having a dig at some of the more vocal fans. Yes, they are a bit much perhaps but I think the whole community in dissaray has shown a lot about H4. Frankie used to be one of the funnest people at bungie, even sneaking into Martys office (which I lolled out) Next off he tries to calm people down, giving clever snippets of info. Now he goes on the offensive (bit on the exaggeration, but it makes my point a bit more defined) and hits out at fans. That speaks worlds to me.
Cluckinho... have you forgotten my coffee again? What did I say, Starbucks not this shitty- Oh wait. Thanks much good sir
Cluckin, could you be a doll and PM all these links please? For some reason page 277 kicks me off of safari when I open it on my iPhone
Honestly I think the community is as much to blame as Frankie, if not more so. He should keep it more professional, perhaps, but it's hard to blame him for starting to become bitter. It's not really even about the fundamental difference of opinion between that sector of the Halo community and 343 - it's more about the tone, volume and persistence of the complaints. All you have to do is scroll back through this thread for a lot of examples (and this is hardly the worst of it, sad to say - this is really nothing compared to bungie.net or waypoint).
I'm not doubting Frankie at all. But you cant hide from the fact that the studio is starting to dislike the people it is catering to, and vice versa. Then compare that to Bungie. heck, if they were to make changes as big as 343i have done they would have either not done that (and not sold out) or most probably make a huge announcement about it before they implement it, and gauge the response. When the changes were in gameinformer, look at how many people (including actual game devs) thought it was all a huge troll. They had faith in 343 not to sell out, and now look. People have had to accept what they loath. Admit it, as positive a spin as you put on it, just about everybody would rather have classic, or "proper" Halo.
Not all of them - not even most of them. Just the online contingent (and not even all of those, actually, as evidenced by some of the posters at Waypoint and halo.bungie.org...). Waitaminute. Bloom, armor abilities..? That's not even true of everyone posting in this thread, let alone everyone who plays Halo. I'm not crazy about a lot of these design decisions either, but let's not kid ourselves. As loud as the feedback has been, it's coming from a distinct minority voice.
...Based on what evidense? You'd be a little salty too if you had to deal with hundreds of email, physical mail, waypoint threads, etc filled with how much 343 sucks and all the nasty personal attacks to him and his staff. That does not mean "the studio" dislikes anyone. People not liking what they're doing doesn't mean the studio was having internal meetings saying "you know what our stupid fans would hate, let's do all those things, f*ck money, we'll show the bastards." ...Bungie's Reach. The beta that introduced armor abilities....and numerous vidocs detailing all the large changes. This is the 5th game in a franchise (not counting Halo Wars). Comments about "selling out" would have happened regardless. "Selling out" is one of the most ambiguous descriptions. Yes everything should be free and nothing should go past the first version of anything, we get it. When we get to Halo kart racing, Halo brand cereal, and Halo party 7 I'll be more inclined to agree. I've mentioned it before but I'll mention it again. Halo is one of just a few game franchises that Microsoft fully owns, they don't make much money off of the licensing fee charged to other publishers to put their games on the Xbox and the only games Microsoft acts as publisher on are the XBLA games. First of all "proper" is highly subjective to who you talk to. Second, "everybody" consists mostly of people nutduster talked about as far as who has the problem. It would be more accurate to say *most* people who played the original Halo trilogy competively or who spent significant time with each game would rather have the fundamentals of the classic games' multiplayers. Not as concise or eyegrabbing as what you said, but also not full of crap.
Actually, I for one would enjoy people super marhalo. it sounds kind of catchy. And what I was saying is that 343 shouldn't be responding to what you are classing as "a distinct minority" of people. Remember AntiHalo22? They guy who swore a lot and said lots of nasty things about Bungay because it wasn't the awesome call of duty? Remember how people generally left him alone because he was such a minority? And also, bungie gave masses and masses of information detailing the chanegs they made. Not just "we will clarify it "soon" and turning it into an attention grabber or "it's something we spent a lot of time thinking about, even though we knew some changes would be controversial." That right there is my biggest beef with 343i. They give out controversial information and use it to teese people into getting hyped. Not a seriously bad thing, but it is not as right as detailing why the changes were made in the form of things like ViDocs.
One guy is not a minority to a company that deals with millions of people. That's a statistically insignificant speck. The hundreds of people flooding emails and forums with hate spam are a minority yet significant enough to be told to knock it off. You do realize things are recorded in time on the internet right. I mean why say something that can be so easily checked for accuracy. First, all developers say those things. A perfectly candid developer is exceedingly rare as that isn't professional. Second no developer releases "massive" details about anything pre-release. Bungie was famous for giving slivers of information during its bulletins (sometimes giving no development news for weeks). When they did release significant information regarding one of their upcoming games (which was always near release) they did it through vidocs. The only poor decision 343i made as far as press releases go was that they chose their first real info dump source to be a magazine that they don't control. You are aware how hype works right?
Halo 4 News of 5/11 Not a lot of news today, but atleast what I have is pretty good. Campaign related, so spoilers. -2 New enemies Revealed! A guy named Tawpgun posted a picture of the back of a McFarlane toy box. The new enemies are named crawlers and watchers. You can spot a tiny mongoose in the full picture, as well as some Spartans.
