I think this is an interesting topic for discussion, so I'm stickying it until the fileshare lockout is over
I'll be doing what many others will be doing for the first few months. Lurking. Forging and keeping to myself. Get a feel for the palette and objects, and the actual gameplay as well. Watching others fumble rushed maps and learn from their mistakes. I also wanna get a feel for the gameplay before I tackle an original map. I wanna get comfortable with game physics, armor abilities (Forerunner vision?! WTF?!), weapon drops (also WTF....), new weapons and game modes etc.
I must say, if i was to build anything, it would be something simple yet new. Like a Cannon gun that can be moved with Mongooses so you can position it to fire at enemy lines. If not, ill test out features to see what crazy ideas i can conjure up as i fuddle with the mass options of forge until i create what could be the next big hit. Other then that, im going to play through the story and be on the look out for good designs to use on some maps. Yes, this is my first post. And im glad it was for this. Anyone else thinking of seeing if they could build a working ship out of building when they get the time to do it, or is that just me?
All I really want to do is just Forge a decent 4v4 Team Slayer map that has interesting features, has no frame rate lag, and overall just works as well as it's designed to. Reach let me down with this as most 4v4 maps have framerate lag or are lacking in continuous aesthetics because of items and FPS lag which is why a lot of people moved on to 2v2 maps :/
Before Halo 4 I want to finish Meteora and make one last Big Team map to pull together everything I want out of Big Team in Reach. After that I am sure I will continue trying to make better and better medium-large maps in Halo 4, especially with several new vehicles likely to be available. Currently I focus mostly on Hog/Ghost/Infantry gameplay, but I would like to move up to some larger vehicles for a map someday. Here's hoping for a spiritual successor to the elephant.
I don't think I'll be forging anything until a solid month after release. Usually all the nifty aesthetic tricks and designs aren't discovered until a few good maps are released. I may utilize the new forunner vision to make a gametype and map similar to the whole one-overpowered-player-against-all concepts (maps and gametypes like "predator"). But my true desire is to create a real ambitious infection map with immense atmosphere and dynamic environments. I'm already a little demotivated to start planning with the recent confirmation of health packs not being present in halo 4, though; health packs were a real cool factor to have implemented into an infection map in reach. Contrary to the cut of health packs, weapon drops via drop pod (recently announced) sound like something great to add into an infection map. I guess I could start planning and drawing up a concept now, but who knows how well it will transfer into halo 4. One of the most disappointing things has to be running out of resources while halfway into creating a map. I don't think ill be designing anything until 343i releases enough information about the new tool set and what's capable within the new editor. Hopefully they will, in some way, simplify the whole process of creating dynamic environments and map mechanics (doors, elevators, drop pods, etc.). Those kinds of things, IMO, really make a map interesting.
Revive Conquest, Co-Forge with at least 3 other, more skilled people, get my **** into matchmaking, change my name to something even more stupid, write more lessons! AND EAT YELLOW SNOW!
I changed my mind from my earlier post. I will be focusing exclusively on making GL pro maps and getting a GL pro league into MM.
I simply want that of certain items more can be placed and more Scenery(I've got a great idea but I need like 30 pallets for that).
I changed my mind. I had an idea for a map that i will build in Halo 4. I'll work on that idea until Halo 4 comes out.
How are you able to plan anything, if you don't know what will expect us in halo 4s forge? We can only speculate how it will work and we don't know about a single piece we will be able to use
It very much depends, but I was considering making a remake of Zealot if 343 indeed include covenant pieces. The mlg version obviously, no space combat and a grav lift connecting gold 1 to 2. Beyond that I hope to make some original symmetrical btb/ 4v4 tertian maps if the terrain in H4 is accommodating/ they actually introduce some decent terrain pieces or a terrain editor of some sorts. + maybe Invasion; fingers crossed.
I had an idea of blank blocks and you're able to select the texture like colors. I'm fine with what ever they hand to use.
If it is more user-friendly (you can resize objects and such) all the ideas I never even tried in Reach would be fullfilled.
