The focus rifle works the way it's intended. It pretty much is the sentinel beam, but actually useful. I wonder if they will be making some cuts on some of the weapons that are very similar. (Brute Shot or Conc Rifle, Sentinel Beam or Focus Rifle etc.) I don't mind seeing some variety, but some of the weapons in the series are trumped by other ones in almost every way. (sentinel beam being the perfect example) That being said, Anything is better than reach's extremely limited weapon sandbox.

I don't know why, but I would definitely rather have the sentinel beam over the focus rifle.

I would like to see the falcon, but only if objective carriers can actually ride in it and not have to stand on top of it like an idiot

Halo without Jeff Steitzer wouldn't be Halo.

I love the Focus Rifle, it's an awesome close to mid range weapon which takes real skill.

I'd still like to see a suite of weapons within forge even if they were redundant.

I'm of the same opinion, I can understand why they would want a streamlined and perfectly balanced list of weapons for standard Matchmaking, and to a lesser extent campaign, but I've never understood why they cut things they could just give us in Forge/Custom Games.

Regardless of balance, it's something we could use/balance/mess with on our own, and it's not being used in any official capacity.

I think the same thing about armor abilities, if they have to be used, I thought it would be cool to have a bunch only available in forge, or a way to create your own. Just spitballing here, but I always thought it would have been cool.

Frankly I think that's purely to do with time constraints. In terms of extra work (designing, programming and testing new weapons, even if to a lesser degree than MM ones, they still have to work properly) for how much they'll be used, I can kinda see why they'd shoot for other stuff. In terms of time spent on custom content creation, I'd rather see it dedicated to improving the basic forge experience (general forge objects, bug removal, framerate etc.), though in an ideal world it would be cool to have some extra stuff.

They have said they will not only have many of the Covy weapons we know and love returning, but an entirely new weapon set will be created based around Forerunner tech. Can't ****ing wait to see what they come up with. I'm hoping for at least 5-6 weapons on that front.

The idea of forerunner weapons and enemies is what has me really interested in this game on the whole. As much as I loved Halos 2, 3 and Reach, in a lot of respects they just did the bare minimum necessary to qualify as next evolutionary steps from their respective predecessors. I'm really hoping 343 has gotten a bit more ambitious this time around. I don't mind seeing some of the old weapons and fighting against or alongside a few covies, but I want the game to do something very new, for the most part. If it does that, and does it well, I can just about forgive them their transgressions against multiplayer. :)

But you see, 343 will have a harder time doing something new when the community lashes out at all the changes that they have announced.

not necessarily. theyre not idiots, im sure they are smart enough to understand that the community is upset about changes that would change the core gameplay of halo, and that new weapons is completely different.

Yet, as we saw with the recent splitting of the playlists into half-TU/ half-regular, 343i seems to be hesitant to stick with their decisions. The TU is undoubtedly a better matchmaking experience, but they went soft instead of growing a pair of balls and just rolling out the TU on all playlists. Sure, people would have complained, but the majority would have simply accepted it and moved on.

I don't think most players even really knew what the difference between the two were, but simply were against change for no good reason (unless maybe they didn't want their precious AL and AC nerfed). They could have easily made TU the norm by making a "Classic Reach" playlist for the old settings and upgrading "Team Slayer" to TU. Instead they made up the ridiculous-sounding "Super Slayer" that no one plays and got rid of the very popular "Squad Slayer."

I'm hoping 343i can stick with their decisions this time around and try to filter out the stupid complaints from the logical/sensible ones. We don't have enough specifics to make any real judgments yet anyhow (like about how the "random" power weapon drops will work or how AA's will differ from the way they functioned in Reach). My real concern is that if any of the new mechanics are horribly broken upon release, 343i will be too scared to update their game across the board and make 1000 playlists instead.

I can see it now, "Hey guys, we heard you didn't like Team Slayer in Halo 4, so we made Uber Slayer! It's got all these amazing updates, but don't worry, TS is still there for you guys who liked that! Oh yeah, and since a lot of you have already said Uber Slayer sucks without playing it or even knowing the difference between it and TS, we're rolling out Aussie Slayer where all the controls are 'upside-down!' This means they do the opposite of normal! Firing now throws grenades, pressing forward moves you backward, and much much more! Hyuk hyuk hyuk!"

I barely play TU because it's not in Invasion or Infection, my favourite playlists. I would love to see TU thrown all over Reach. **** you and your armor lock.

This is a mischaracterization. The community you're talking about is mostly the competitive portion of the hardcore, online Halo fanbase, which 343 has to recognize is - despite their very vocal nature - just a small percentage of their overall player base. Which is exactly why they continue to court the CoD-playing market and just pacify the naysayers with soothing words and segregated playlists.

Besides that, the stuff people are all bothered about is 1) a fundamental change to 2) the core multiplayer mechanics. What I was talking about were weapons (not fundamental to the game as long as they keep a few old favorites - and indeed, they've done this at least to an extent in every single Halo title), and campaign stuff.

I get very tired of this position that if you give negative feedback on any proposed alteration to Halo, you must be generally opposed to all change. It's reductive to the point that it's simply false.

Please stop generalizing on Casuals being COD kiddies. Call those people simply noobs. Casuals are people who play for fun. I mean, neither am I gonna say that all Competitive players are MLG tryhards who only hog power weapons and hold back in their spawn, which is a more true view than casuals being noobs.
