So after gaming for a while yesterday, I began hearing a strange rattle noise from, I wanna say, the left side of my macbook pro (yes, i have a mac, sue me). So this morning I turn it on and begin hearing the rattle noise, but then it started getting louder and louder and then slowly stopped completely. I'm guessing it's the fan that went crazy, since I googled around and my harddrive appears to be fine... I'm not amazing with computers but that's my assumption. Hopefully my harddrive doesn't overheat and fry. Think one of my fans is broken? Should I be concerned? I have a three year warranty (i've had it for about a year and 8 months), should I send it in..? Replies would be much appreciated. Edit: fans appear to be working.. but still..
It'd probably be worth your time checking it out. If it's still under warranty then sending it or taking it to your local Mac repairer wouldn't go astray. From the sound of it, it might be your fan has just loosened a bit and is rattling around on its rotation. Won't be an issue in the immediate future, but if you want it to last I'd suggest getting it checked out. I mean, it is a Mac, but people still need computers.
Lol, good one. I was thinking of sending it in, but so far today it's been doing fine. I may just decide to wait until this summer to send it in if I hear the rattling noises again. But it was the loudest, most disconcerting noise you can hear in a computer, so I was freaking out.
Which is why I'd probably suggest getting it looked at sooner rather than later. It may not be making the noise right now, but it could still be causing damage silently and by the time Summer rolls around it could be beyond repair. I dunno, it's just a suggestion. I could have gone the obvious route and said, "yeh, it's a Mac, I'd suggest getting a Windows PC and your problems will be fix'd!" but thought it too obvious to be considered humourous. ;P
Well, it sounds like the fans are working, I think they are? and if I send it in within the warranty wouldn't they have to repair or send me a new one? HAha so funny, I already get a ton of **** for using a mac but meh, I had to, it was required for my school. I have everything backed up so I won't lose anything, just in case.
How far is your nearest Apple store? "Sending it in" needn't mean that you might have it gone for like a week just for them to tell you it's fine, just take it to the Apple store and they'll tell you then and there. I doubt you're at risk of the hard drive frying, I'd guess that your CPU, and perhaps RAM to a lesser extent, is more at risk since it's what's generating a lot of the heat which the fans are getting rid of. If your close enough to an Apple store for it not to be a big hassle then I'd take it in asap. You're right that you'll still be in Apple Care for more than another year, but the sooner you take it in the less likely it is that more serious damage will have been done by overheating and the less time it'll take to repair.
get it checked out and also check what model of mac it is. Search up if that model has any known faults if it has got any faults they should replace it with all your gear for free. thats what happened to me. exactly the same problem with the fan but with a windows 7 laptop. it would constantly overheat so i looked it up got a newer model for free!
unfortunately you will have to get the newest version of the iFan. the old versions are incompatible. the new version is 2000$
There isn't an apple store nearby and classes are starting up now so I'll need my laptop. I think I'll take a chance until summer comes by, then I'll get it checked, that or if I hear the noise anymore between now and easter I'll get it checked then. And yes, titmar, apple is **** for compatibility (those thieves). Thanks for the replies guys.
you know, my PC's fan was making an obnoxious noise yesterday. i took it apart and cleaned it, problem solved, lol.
You know, my macbook pro's logic board crapped out on me. I took it in and they gave me a brand new computer, problem benefited from, lol.
Yeah, I would send it in just in case, or else... stuff... will happen then you can't write more forms for me to post on, so send it in.
>Something goes wrong with computer >Get new parts, problem solved >Something goes wrong with mac >Have to buy entire new computer
