I know this isn't going to be booming with discussion, but I know there are some die-hard Resident Evil fans out there, so I'm making it. It comes out March 20th. If you aren't really familiar with Operation Raccoon City, it's a genre spin-off (kinda like Halo Wars) set back in 1998 in Raccoon City during the events of RE:2 and RE:3. You are a secret squad sent in by Umbrella to wipe out any evidence of their involvement and kill any survivors found on sight. You fight all the favorites: Zombies, Dogs, Lickers, Hunters, William Birkin, Tyrants, Mr.X and even the Nemesis (though he appears to have been more based on the crap movie version. Lame.) It's 4-player co-op, and bares a very strong likeness to Gears of War. It's third-person, you can run and duck into cover, stomp zombies heads, etc. Each character is also mildly class-based, as in there is a stealth character, a medic, a demolitions character, etc. Each has a special ability and you can upgrade them (mildly). Anyways, here is some videos: (Some are from a few months ago, so the graphics and such have improved a bit.) I actually plan on buying this i was going to gauge how many other people were going to get it because face a good co-op game is only as good as the company you keep. But i definitely like the game play and the gore. Dead Space did it right but Resident Evil are the masters. I just hope there is good diversity in levels and characters. I hope its similar to Saturday Night Combat. which i enjoyed but we a little too bright and happy for my tastes.
I dunno, i've been pretty psyched about this game since reading the september '11 issue of game informer. I like how it isnt like the other resident evil games. I like how its branching off into a new directions. I like games like these that take chances. i.e Brink (that game was fun, innovative, and had a lot of potential but it wasnt executed the right way, and it suffered because of it. I was so dissappointed). I have it pre-ordered right now. When It comes out, im going to see how it is. If its god enough for my liking, it could stay in my library, if not, bye bye! I should trade-in Brink when I buy it too....
I'm a diehard Resident Evil fan, always have been. Don't like this, as a Resident Evil game. Might be good for a third person shooter, so I'll do my best to judge it as that. I'll probably give it a rent.
This will by no means redefine the series for me, and I wasn't really that big of a fan of RE:4 or RE:5 and the million spin-offs. For me, it was always 1, 2 and 3. Preferably the remake of 1. This just looks like good old fashioned fun between me and my friends while adding a huge dash of nostalgia.
I personally think that the series should go back to its roots, keep the gunplay and controls of 4 and 5, but go back to zombies. I'm tired of it being just another shooter, it needs to go back to "survival horror". And as shooter-ey as this game looks, at least it appears to be going back to a more "horror" themed system.
I couldn't agree more. If they re-made 1, 2 and 3 in the style of 5 without gaying it up with action and kicking open doors, I'd never buy another game again. I'd live in my room and never come out, not even to eat. Regardless, this looks purely fun and I'm going to have an open mind about it. I cannot deny that the notion of headshotting a zombie in Raccoon City in new age graphics turns me on sexually.
Might have to pick this up just for you. Though you'll be hard-pressed to convince Shad0w since he just grabbed ME3 lol.
RST, TSB, chrs, Shad0w. Hey look, that's four people. And these teams are made of four. No but seriously I hate playing games like this by myself.
I'll play often dude. Not like.. the first week it comes out, but after that I'm golden. I just moved, so I'm still unpacking any time I'm home, and my xbox kicked the bucket during the move apparently, so I have a new one on its way. Just waiting for it.
I believe this game is more of Capcom's take on Valve's Left 4 dead than actual a RE game. This game has all the elements of l4d with RE sprinkled all over. Lets not forget that the game has a multiplayer that looks like it'll have more replay value than l4d's...
I'm actually pretty excited for this. I've always dreamed of a well made, cooperative, resident evil game, so i was rather excited when this was announced last year. Game play looks stellar, but I have noticed a few things out of all the trailers I've seen that disappointed me. Death doesn't seem like it carries a reasonable penalty in coop. getting infected and turning into a zombie only to respawn 5 seconds later is just stupid. completely defeats the purpose of being infected and turning into a zombie; why claw at my fellow teammates and injure them when i will soon join their ranks again? bad move capcom/slantsix. Cool idea, bad execution. I do hope they decide to implement a hardcore mode similar to that of left for dead's realism mode. Another small but annoying thing I've noticed is the generalized classifications of the weapons. "bolt-action rifle" or "pump action shotgun." Just call the ****ing guns out by name, it adds to the atmosphere. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but i haven't noticed any sign of friendly fire. It's details like these that add to the realism and make it a better game. Sadly, I think it's too late in development to right these wrongs. Oh well, I'm still getting this game because of its concept. There are things it looks like they got right though. The game modes are real creative and i can't wait for some potentially epic moments survival mode has to offer, such as being the sole survivor and escaping in the helicopter at the last second. The knockdown animations (example at 4:23 in the 11 minute gameplay video) look so good i thought it was simply ragdoll physics for a moment. The zombies-busting-out-of-walls feature with the fake dmm is pretty BA. Melee mechanic looks pretty fluid. 3 way battles between zombies, umbrella operatives, and spec ops in multiplayer is pretty much what I've always dreamed of. The game will be good, but it has its flaws.
Yeah, REmake on the Gamecube was probably my favourite. This has always been my opinion, which is why I'm kind of looking forward to Operation Raccoon City. Even if it is super shooter-ey, i'll probably enjoy it purely for the setting.
When you become infected, you have a short time to be healed before you turn into a zombie. Once you turn, you lose control of your character and have to sit and watch yourself attack your teammates until they put a bullet in your head. Once you're dead, THEN you can respawn.
Oh you're right, looked to me like you had control over your player. guess i should read up more before calling the game out on those kind of things lol.
So what characters are you guys interested in using for yourselves? I personally am really into Lupo. I'm not entirely sure why, seeing as she's the one with the least interesting specials, but I decided upon her pretty quickly and none of the others appeal to myself.
In the campaign and most of the time, you are the USS (the umbrella team). In heroes mode, you can play as Leon, Claire, Ada, Jill, etc. In certain multiplayer modes, you'll be the Government team (the people that're in a gun battle with the USS in the trailer.)
