I get what you're saying Bloo and I partially agree. But the whole purpose of sharing the video is so more people can see it and donate. I shared it because I'm not financially stable right now and can't afford to help out.
Wait, isn't Uganda the same nation that wants to charge the death penalty for being a homosexual? Yup, yes it is.
Bought one of the action kits the other day. Also, somewhat related. 9GAG - Joseph PONY! Help me my Bronies!
Ah hum. If the spam reaches someone who will actually do something then that's good luck but otherwise its just people wanting to look like there helping and doing a good deed. Which if they really wanted to do a good deed they would send it to someone who could actually do something instead of randoms hoping one of them are someone who can do something.
This is what should happen, donating to accredited charities and not some "non profit but really for profit charity" unfortunately invisible children bank on the uninformed like shiskabob who think they are actually contributing to the actual problem What are you talking about? I get like 5 PMS everytime I post something mild like "**** lapper" warning me that I better change it or I'm getting infracted. sarge alone has giving me like 3 infractions for saying gay and *** when everyone was all pro gay for awhile. I'm not raiding your threads and trying to destroy them, I'm simply providing additional facts on the other side. I'd do it to any one, you just happen to be the OP to some dumb threads.
I guess turning the genuine horror that some Ugandan children underwent 6 years ago into publicity for your outdated cause really does work. Then again, the video is targeted towards hipsters who are scant IQ points shy of being deemed intellectually disabled, so y'know. Fish, barrel, e.c.t. And then his children will have children, and his children's children will have children. Ever heard of being environmentally conscious? But no, you just had to get laid.
Are you trying to claim my daughter is a mistake?? Just so you know I've been with my girl since we were sophomores in high school so no I didn't "just get laid" Besides, this is totally irrelavant to the thread.
Holy **** ladies calm down, we're here to talk about a scam surrounding a Sub-Saharan warlord and the corrupt fundamentalist Christian government he fights, not our high school sex lives. Though that could be an interesting topic...
Kony hasn't been in Uganda for going on 7 years. It's a far more peaceful land than this video would have you believe. Couple that with the fact that 69% of your donations go to the production of these videos, travel and living arrangement for the invisible children crew, and the salaries of all involved, including up to 90,000 a year for the top dogs, and you have one giant piece of propaganda aimed at putting your money into their pockets. 31% is given to the military and who knows where it goes after that. Hell, they have never even been externally audited, so the numbers could be even worse. Do a simple google search to find infinite articles about the LRA and it's demise and Kony's disappearence, along with plenty of Ugandan citizens more upset with this video for being an obvious cash grab and bringing back to light a man they are trying to forget. Here, read this one: http://blog.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2012/03/07/guest_post_joseph_kony_is_not_in_uganda_and_other_complicated_things#.T1nv6R0I8aM.facebook Now, don't get me wrong, this man should be hunted down and tried for his crimes, but don't be mislead by invisible children. They are warping the truth, trying to make you think this stuff is still going on so you shell out 30 dollars for a bracelet and even more for donations so they can fill their pockets and continue their way of life. Support someone like Sam Childers, a.k.a. The Machinegun Preacher. He risks his life fighting against the LRA and other organizations who are committing these crimes. He's in the bush with a gun rebuilding schools and helping kids, not sitting in a warm room somewhere creating videos to fill his own pockets.
If I donate $30 to Invisible Children I get a bracelet, but if I donate to Angels of East Africa, what do I get? Good feelings in my stomach? If I don't have a bracelet all the other kids at school wont know how down I am with Africa and stuff. The fact that you basically said Fbu's opinions were less important because he hasn't had kids when the truth is having children is terrible for the environment makes you a hypocrite. That's pretty relevant to the thread. But then again, "exponential growth" and "resource scarcity" could both be junk science.
"the white savior industrial complex is not about justice. it's about having an emotional experience that validates privilege."
...I'm not sure if this was sarcastic or not. I said Green Peace or other "direct charities" not "invisible children". I just found this funny because when I do it to your threads you think I hate you or out to get you and when you do the same think in skisma's thread you make this claim. Turn about is fair play I suppose.
I might be late into the mix, but personally I think this whole thing is somewhat exaggerating the truth. My world cultures teacher is very passionate about Africa, and she is completely against Kony 2012. For starters, the money you're sending in will help build schools, NOT to catch Kony. Next, one of the videos with Jacob in it was from 10 years ago, making it sound like the whole LRA situation is still going on. This leads me to my final reason. The video said that there are 35,000 soldiers in the LRA, when in reality there's around 200 left. Kony isn't even in Uganda. If you ask me, this whole thing is a little bit shaddy if you think about it.
Lol I was backing your statement up there, saying that green peace and other real charities should be contributed to as opposed to contributing to Invisible Children like shiskabob wants us to. It wasn't sarcastic q: Yeah I pretty much stole your exact words, they were fair (;
This. It never once even crossed my mind to actually donate to IC or pay attention to their individual cause. However, I'm perfectly okay with spreading awareness about this because hopefully someone with the ability to actually do something about it will. I don't care about this one individual, I care about the entire cause. This is something I've felt was one of the largest issue with the world and it was never given enough focus. Seeing what's been accomplished in recent years because of online awareness and support (Egyptian Revolution, Libya, SOPA) I'm hoping that KONY will go far beyond one individual. So guys, spread awareness for the cause and spread awareness of the "scam" but don't simply bash people excitedly announcing this to their friends.
