Story of Saiunkoku This was just a quick Google search, but still no Eden of the East. I'm glad to see Welcome to the NHK up there though. I might search for some more after school.
Why was Soul Eater not on any of those lists? It was the first ever anime series I watched after a friend recommended it to me. It's by far one of the best anime I've seen, Including all the fanservice series that I watch. Same with Cowboy Bebop. I'm only 2 episodes in but I'm liking it already. Who the hell compiled these lists? I believe we should make our own.

Yondemasu-yo, Azazeru-san [168 I agree, except for the implied "The Last Airbender is anime". It is not. You're in luck though.
You're wrong to say it isn't anime just because it isn't japanese. That is THE only thing that is ever brought up as an argument to say its not anime. Or rather, a more relevant thing for me to say would be: You cannot deny discussion of a show (in this thread) just because you don't deem it to be anime.
You're right it isn't techinically anime, it just shares many similarities. I still consider it as anime in my mind though, and would prefer to discuss it here. I'm sure that doesn't go against the "rules" of the thread. I was suprised at the exclusion of Cowboy Bebop in some of those lists. Even if they were voted on by "moefans", you'd think it would show up in a lot more of them. EDIT: I guess I'll add some more lists. Top Tearjerkers: Spoiler 1. CLANNAD 2. AIR 3. Evangelion 4. Gurren Lagann 5. Eureka Seven 6. Fruits Basket 7. Saikano 8. Kanon 9. Twin Spica 10. Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha I completely agree with the top two. Key has a reputation for their sad endings in anime. Fruits Basket? Come on. Anime that revolutionized the industry Spoiler 1. Neon Genesis Evangelion 2. Puella Magi Madoka Magica 3. Gundam 4. Haruhi 5. Tiger & Bunny 6. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni 7. K-ON! 8. Space Battleship Yamato 9. Code Geass 10. Pokémon I can agree with Neon Genesis, Gundam, and Pokemon. Some of the others are good, but no where near revolutionary. Another list with K-On! and Madoka in it... Shockingly serious Spoiler 1. Puella Magi Madoka Magica 2. School Days 3. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni 4. Neon Genesis Evangelion 5. Bokurano 6. Ga-rei Zero 7. Code Geass 8. Elfen Lied 9. Fafner in the Azure 10. Infinite Ryvius 11. Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 12. Deadman Wonderland 13. Umineki no Naku Koro ni 14. Ōkami Kakushi 15. Iriya no Sora 16. Saikano 17. Gosick 18. ef 19. Black Lagoon 20. Phantom 21. Madlax 22. Kara no Kyoukai 23. Rozen Maiden 24. H2O – Footprints in the Sand 25. Full Metal Panic The next sentence could be a bit of a spoiler so read at your own discretion. Most of these seem happy and PG at first, until that one horrid, bloody scene that makes your jaw drop. I'm personally not into all that guro stuff so I can't recommend anything. Sad yet beautiful endings Spoiler 1. Code Geass R2 2. Puella Magi Madoka Magica 3. Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai 4. Ga-Rei Zero 5. Air 6. Ef – A Tale Of Melodies 7. Mawaru Penguindrum 8. Angel Beats! 9. Saikano 10. School Days Here's a list with Code Geass Zigy. If it were my list first place would be a tie between Ano Hi Mita and Angel Beats. Ano Hi Mita is a bit overrated, but still a great romance anime. Anime cliches Spoiler 1. The wishy-washy protagonist gets all the girls 2. A new power awakens in a desperate pinch! 3. After starting out as an enemy, after many tribulations they become an ally! 4. A hitherto invincible new enemy character somehow loses to the protagonist… 5. Despite being excessively popular, for some reason the protagonist is completely insensitive 6. The useless drop-out protagonist becomes the heroic saviour of the world 7. The heroine descends from on high 8. As soon as a girl is accidentally pushed over, someone will burst in and leap to conclusions 9. The girls and boys whose beauty is revealed only when they take off their glasses… 10. The rival who is both sporty and clever Lol, this is the most accurate list on the site. Number 4 pisses me off the most when I see it. Top Otaku and Neets Spoiler 1. Itaru Hashida (Steins;Gate) 2. Konata Izuma (Lucky Star) 3. Kuroneko (Ore no Imouto) 4. Kohta Hirano (Highschool of the Dead) 5. Origami Cyclone (Tiger & Bunny) 6. Keima Katsuragi (Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai) 7. Alice (Heaven’s Memo Pad) 8. Kirino (Ore no Imouto) 9. Shiro (Arakawa Under The Bridge) 10. Jintan (Ano Hi Mita Hana) Neet stands for "not in employment, education, or training". Why isn't Tatsuhiko from NHK on this list? Anime you'd recommend to non-anime watchers Spoiler 1. Clannad / Clannad – After Story 2. Code Geass 3. Angel Beats! 4. Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica 5. Natsume’s Book of Friends 6. Nichijou 7. Hanasaku Iroha 8. Gosick 9. Kimi ni Todoke 10. K-ON! If it were me i'd show them Nichijou first. Yet another list that K-On! doesn't belong on... DOUBLE EDIT: This one's for sky The most sexy scenes Spoiler 1. “This applies to all recent vapid moe anime” 2. To Love-Ru 3. Yosuga no Sora 4. Highschool of the Dead 5. Seikon no Qwaser 6. Softenni 7. Sora no Otoshimono 8. Hidan no Aria 9. Strike Witches 10. 30-sai no Hoken Taiiku 11. Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko 12. Ikki Tousen 13. Akisora 14. Queen’s Blade 15. B-gata H-kei I wouldn't recommend Seikon no Qwaser and Denpa Onna shouldn't even be on this list. When it comes to To Love-Ru or Sora no Otoshimono, I'd read the manga.
Tatsuhiko isn't a Neet because he is a Hikikomori. It's kinda like comparing rectangles and squares, they are technically Neets but a Hikikomori is a special more progressed form of Neet. The Anime -> Non-anime watchers list is just wrong. So much of that is stuff I would only suggest to someone who already appreciated the medium. You don't try to hook someone on anime by showing them Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika... Trust me, I'M a Neet.
decided tonight that i'm going to re-watch Dragonball. it's so great. much better than Z. DB > DBZ > DBGT
Anime is made primarily for Japanese audiences, and that's the main difference between western animation and anime. It's a disservice to the creator's of the show to say it's anime just because you want to discuss it here as though it is.
In the list of anime that revolutionized the industry, why is the Original Ghost in the Shell movie not in there? It was one of the first that used CG in tandem with traditional cell shading and pretty much set the bar for anime movies that followed. Or Akira for that matter for much the same reasons. In fact I would go as far to say that if you have not seen either of these you cannot truly consider yourself an anime fan. Even if you don't really like them you should still have seen them at least once.
You know... I actually have the first Ghost in the shell movie, but have never actually watched it. I've seen everything else GiTS though (1st and 2nd seasons of anime, and 2nd movie) I honestly can't tell you why I haven't watched the first movie either. I HAVE seen Akira though, so I can agree on that point.
I can say the same thing for the Neon Genesis series. It's one of those anime you have to watch, if you watch anime. I was very disappointed upon seeing K-On! and Madoka on that list. It's not that they are horrible anime, but that they just don't deserve to be in most of these lists. For those who wonder why I constantly bash on these two, watch the first 3 or 4 episodes of each and you'll understand. My own personal movie list would be below. I'm a huge Miyazaki fan, so I may be biased. What's everyone elses? 1.Evangelion: You Can (Not) Advance 2.Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind 3.AKIRA 4.The Girl Who Leapt Through Time 5.Spirited Away I think the person who created the "site" is here somewhere because there is now an underrated list. Most underrated anime Spoiler 1. Astarotte no Omocha 2. Dennou Coil 3. True Tears 4. Chihayafuru 5. Katakana 6. Un-Go 7. Kemono no Souja 8. Mirai Nikki 9. The Legend Of The Legendary Heroes 10. Mitsudo Moe 11. Kamisama Dolls 12. Last Exile – Fam, The Silver Wing 13. Bamboo Blade 14. Noein: To Your Other Self 15. Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel 16. Hanamaru Youchien 17. Monster 18. Hajime no Ippo 19. Kimi to Boku 20. Master Keaton 21. Sora no Manimani 22. Tamayura -Hitotose- 23. Medabots 24. Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight! 25. And Yet The Town Moves Yay for Mirai Nikki, but the rest are meh. Unfortunatly Eden of the East isn't on this list either. Also, I'm curious to know. What's the first anime you ever watched?
I would rather use the term, "under-appreciated" than "underrated". Anyways, regardless of what term you choose to use, I would say: • Speed Grapher • Ghost Hound Speed Grapher is one of those odd "superpower" anime. Plot spoilers: Spoiler Main character was a war photographer and through a weird series of events, anything he takes a picture of now explodes. The level of the explosion varies depending on the size of camera lense he uses. Another thing to note is, the more he uses the power, the less he can see, to the point he actually goes blind from it. Permanently. But before that happens, he ends up fighting off a bunch of other people who got weird powers the same way he did. You may like this if you like: Darker Than Black Fullmetal Alchemist Xam'd: Lost Memories Ghost Hound is a... psychological mystery I suppose. Plot spoilers: Spoiler Main characters are a few kids, no older than middle schoolers. One of which has narcolepsy, one is a delinquent whose father is accused of murder, the son of a scientist who is doing top secret stuffs, and the daughter of a priest at a local shrine. All of them other than the daughter eventually learn how to "soul travel", and use that ability to try to piece together information and learn what actually happened concerning the delinquent's father, and what is going on in the small town they live in. You may like this if you like: Ghost Hunt Psychedelics (The drugs. Yes, if you like them, you will like probably it. No need to get on a moral high-horse about drugs, its hard to help people that are on drugs as a police officer if you have no idea what they are going through.) Both are good, both are not uber popular. (to my knowledge) And I'm pretty sure I've said multiple times already that Deathnote was my first conscious viewing of anime, though Dragonball would have come before it during my hazy childhood.
I'm surprised that Code Geass showed up on a lot of these lists. ESPECIALLY the ending of R2. I never cried to an anime, but I was damn close to crying after seeing it. The show got me into watching anime, for it was the first real anime I've ever watched. Also, if you like Ghost in the Shell, you should watch Eden of the East. I sound like a ***** for complaining that it is too underated and I keep telling people to watch it, but if I wasn't obsessed with R+V, it would probably be my favorite anime.
Nausicaa is awesome, especially with the disney dub. my list is probably all Miyazaki... rofl. those movies are just in a different league. 1. Spirited Away 2. Princess Mononoke 3. Castle in the Sky 4. Akira 5. REDLINE 6. Ponyo id have the Animatrix in there at like number 3 if it counted as a movie back to series', i bought FLCL, just because its been marinating my brain since i first saw it and i have to say, it's fantastic. I want to slap myself for ever being negative toward it in the slightest. It's just so easy to relate to in such a ****ed up way for me.
Cowboy Bebop was the first anime I ever watched (not seen, because I'd seen Pokemon and DBZ and didn't really like them). Couldn't get through the first episode, restarted it, and it changed my perception on the medium. Unfortunately, it's a hard act to follow, starting with the best (which I didn't mean to do). Also, I blackmailed Chuck into buying me the Redline Bluray, which I introduced him to. AWWW YEAHHH.
