Has Quakecon lost its appeal? E3 or PAX are practically holidays (for the gaming/comic community at least) and they are all about video games. I mean sure they are about a whole host of games but then we're arguing about semantics like what number of games constitute a gathering of people. Halo is a large franchise which will release games, machinima, novels, and all sorts of other media for the foreseeable future (if it worked for Mario and Nintendo I see no reason why Microsoft won't do the same with Halo). And you're assuming there is no other reason to go to a Halofest other than to hear new halo game news. I'm sure they could have halo tournaments at them or stations to play halo just for fun like people do with ID games at Quakecon. I guess I don't really get your problem with it. I mean the way you're phrasing "celebration" makes it sound like your comparing it to like Christmas or like a large party or something that doesn't deserve such status. Bungie Day was more a personal thing for the staff of Bungie than it was for the fans. They would usually do something for the fans on that day but that wasn't a requirement. Also they can't really continue that with Halo as they no longer own the IP and the studio wants to move on to other stuff. 343i wants to have a Halofest so why not, there are no rules governing who can and can't have a gathering for a product people like.
It's not semantics at all. If you have a lot of different games to show off each year then it won't get boring. You think the average community member wants to travel however-many miles to hear about shitty books and machinimas? Hell, I'm sure even the most die-hard fans would stop coming after a while. Now if it is just a big LAN party, then I can get behind that. But that's not what Halofest is, is it? I'm not saying what 343 can and can't do. I'm just saying that I would hate for Halo fest to be an annual thing and that it would be a bad idea if it was. This is my thought. Halofest wasn't intended to be an annual thing and it won't be annual. The only reason it happened was because it was the 10 year anniversary of Halo CE. I'm willing to bet that there will not be another Halofest for at least a few years.
That's the definition actually. You agree on principle but disagree when its just 1 franchise instead of a bunch. Do you think the average community member is the one who goes to these things? Fans are fans and thousands will show up to anything they really care about. I'm not going to have a philosophical debate with you over why fans do what they do. Just know that "if they have it, nerds will come" Also I'm not on the planning committee or work with 343i but it would seem like an obvious thing to have in such a gathering eventually. The first one was mostly about advertising Halo CEA and teasing Halo 4 but it just makes sense if it continues to be annual thing to include halo tournaments and lan parties. You haven't really given any proper reasoning behind why you would think it would be a bad idea other than assuming things of over people based on your own thinking, (Plenty of people buy the Halo Novels and care about the other halo media even if you don't, and many people would be willing to drive wherever because that's what fans do for things they like). While it was the 10 year anniversary and Halofest could have very well been planned just for the event, I see no reason why it can't be annual. I mean, I guess I just don't get why you care. Do you think it would cheapen Halo to have it? I mean what do you care what people do with their time? If they want to go to a gathering of other people who like Halo and want to share stories and hear halo news why not?
Fair enough but that call isn't up to you. Lots of other people would find enjoyment in it so if that's the case then you shouldn't denounce an event based on your own feelings of why you wouldn't go.
This is a stretch, and I'm just making conclusions out of words, but I feel like High Ground might be remade in Halo 4. McFarlane Toys Brings the Entire Halo Universe to Collectors with Halo Micro Ops
Yeah, I figured I just misread it, but hey, it happens. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Well, I was leaning towards fighting Precursors before as previously I believed humans and forerunners were allied (due to the forerunner tech recognising humans).. However, after reading through the first book of the forerunner trilogy, it seems ever so fitting that we'd be once again battling the first Didact's Prometheans on one of his undisclosed Shield Worlds as they would be unaware of the events leading up to his exile.
I just hope halo 4 has another epic warthog run at the end. Reach failed in that department so lets see if they bring one in this time.
How do you know this? An embargo is when a game publisher/developer allows journalists to experience certain games but not release any info. A few journalists might have played Halo 4 but apparently we won't hear anything until March 5th.
That article can't confirm anything considering that everything we're hearing about March 5th and the Halo 4 Demo is just pure rumour.
Oh ok. Well if it doesn't get shown by then we can all pretty much assume that the release date is going to be pushed back. Or they could be hiding it on purpose, but game companies never do that.
