My avatar is now the cutest anime character to be conceived. I feel happy. That's right sky, she's BETTER than Blair.

On topic with BT, Baka and test certainly wasn't bad. It just could have been better and just didn't have all that memorable of a plot or characters for that matter. It basically was something I would watch in the spare time I have when I have nothing else to watch, much like how I watch Bleach or Naruto.

EDIT: @ basketskate: FMA: Brotherhood is a completely redone version of FMA, where the plot more closely follows that of the manga. For a few episodes it will seem the same as the original but then they get to where the original diverged and that is where the differences will be most prominent.

In Brotherhood all of the Homunculi play a much greater role in the story and Greed in specific gets a huge increase in how much he is seen. They also have different people as Homunculi (won't go into specifics as to who). All in all, it results in a better version with more attention to being awesome. Watching the original series like I would suggest is merely so you can have a reference for the plot of the first few episodes that they kinda speed through to get to the new part. Also as a comparison to the differences in the plots.

I have to chime in about FMA... i just recently watched it.

It was decent, but i really don't get the hype.
The story was just generally unremarkable.
I watch anime for great stories, I hate wasting my time on 50 episodes of shallow plot.

it seems like you guys are all hyped on the anime chicks in skirts ****... have fun with that lol.
    i just dont get it.

Query, was it the original series you watched? If so, I can understand to a degree, a dislike or thought of underwhelming storyline. If you are referring to FMA: Brotherhood, then I have no idea why you would think that. Brotherhood, while not having a masterpiece of a storyline, is worlds better than a grand majority of anime coming out in the recent years.

I will flat out say that if someone doesn't like FMA: Brotherhood, that they will probably dislike most of the currently "newer" anime out. I say probably because there is a margin of people who simply don't like the general theme presented by FMA. But in terms of character development, plot, and story progression, FMA Brotherhood takes the cake for today's anime of the same genre.

Okay, well you should watch Brotherhood sometime then. It really is worth watching, albeit the first... 10 or so episodes are kinda rehashing the story from the original up to a certain point. After that is where is it picks up and is considerably better.

Which I should also say this, both FMA series' have spectacular voice acting in the dub. Including the new characters unique to the Brotherhood series.

I could only dream of a time where all dubbed anime sounded as good as FMA. The characterization of all of their voices just fits perfectly, along with any accents they are using. I can remember a few anime that chose a poor fit for a characters VA, such as the the voice for Takagi in the dub of HoTD. It just doesn't fit how a teenage girls voice should be, nor did it have any inkling of a similarity to the Japanese VA.

It's cases like those that I prefer and will suggest the subbed version of an anime over the dubbed, even if the dubbed exists. I just can't stand mischaracterization via VA. This goes for video games too, but that is another discussion entirely.

Aaaaand to link anime and video games... Has anyone played or even heard of Tales of Vesperia? Or any of the "Tales of..." franchise? It's a JRPG in the style of a fantasy anime. Somewhat lacking in terms of originality for the storyline, but has GREAT gameplay. (If you have something to say about this you should either pm me or spoiler it so we don't veer too far off topic in here.)

    FMA you watch for characters.
FMA:B you watch for story, since the characters are kinda glossed over.

By watching them in that order, you get to appreciate the characters that are otherwise underdeveloped in FMA:B.

Cowboy Bebop and to a lesser extent Ghost in the Shell: SAC are the only two I can recommend. Death Note is passable as both Anime and Manga though.

Can't beat Mizore for pure sexiness or awesome. Who is yours anyway?

I'm getting about 250GB of anime of a friend at uni (yes, you did read that right: 250GB) so I guess I've got a lot of catching up to do. Here's a list of what I'm getting.

    Bludgeoning angel Dokuro chan
    Claymore
    Freezing
    Kiss x sis
    Love Hina
    Rumbling Hearts
    School days
    Yu gi oh GX
    One Piece
    Black lagoon
    Black rock shooter
    NAruto
    Naruto Shippoden
    Puella Magi Madoka Magica
    Yu gi oh Zexal
    Sekirei
    Air Gear
    Angel Beats
    Arigatou WitchBlade
    Cowboy beebop
    D.Gray Man
    Dance In the Vampire bund
    Demon king Daimao
    Digimon
    Ga-Rei Zero
    Green Green
    Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls
    Kampfer
    Kanokon
    Kite
    Macademi Wasshoi
    Maken-ki
Panty and stockings with garter belt
    Persona trinity soul
    Sekirei Pure Engagment
    Shuffle
    Sora no Otoshimono
    Strike Witches
    to-Love-Ru
    Toradora!

To be honest I'm not sure what some of them are. Any reccomendations as to what I should watch first? Yes, this was just copy-pasted from the file he gave me.

@Aschur: Thanks for clearing that up for me. I never quite understood the difference

    Damn, that's a lot.

It kind of depends on what genre you prefer, but out of all of them I would say watch Angel Beats first. It's a truly excellent anime.

For the ones like KissxSis, Love Hina, Sekirei, and To Love-ru I'd read the manga because they go a lot more in depth. Oh, if you like Love Hina you should read/watch Ichigo 100%. It has 167 chapters, but only 12 episodes I believe, so I recommend reading the manga if you do view it.

Toradora is very good too if you into romance and all that. Cowboy Bebop is also very good. It's a blend of old western cowboy stuff, a jazzy flow, and is set in outerspace, so it's very unique among others. If you enjoy that style you shoud watch Samurai Champloo by the same director.

Beware if you watch School Days. It all seems fine and dandy at first, but then it gets pretty...crazy...

I would only watch Green Green if your into a comedy with a lot of ecchi. I will admit it's funny, but it's one of those anime that has a special episode dedicated to those "naughty" things.

I heard Madoka was very good. Im not into the whole magical girl thing, but it was made by SHAFT, which is a fantastic anime studio, so it's probably not that bad.

Nice list there, I think I've watched around half of them. Most of these aren't bad at all, pretty good. I would recommend starting with Angel Beats followed by either Black Rock Shooter (if you want to dive into the more actiony stuff) or Sora No Otoshimono (if you want to ease the action into comedy). Depending on where you go, if you stick with a genre for a while it'll get a little boring after a while so switch it up. Like, for example, if you sit and watch EVERY episode of the original Naruto, I'd recommend switching it up before you kill all the watchability of it. I tried watching around fifty or so episodes of it, and I really had to go watch something else cause it was just a little tedious for me. Felt more like a chore than a joy. That's ironically how I found Shuffle on Netflix but anyways...Really it all depends on your preference, I myself like to switch things up a bit here and there, but you watch whatever you want to. Have fun catching up on all that anime there, don't forget to eat and sleep, that's something i forget alot if I'm watching something good.

*coughs loudly to get Sky's attention and look at Kurumu in my avatar*

I saw Rumbling Hearts on that list. Watch it at your own risk. The ending made me sick; I would have killed myself if I was in that guy's situation.

Cowboy Bebop (ONLY THE BEST, THE BEST, THE BEST, THE BEST OF [anime])
    Trigun
    FMA
    FMA:B
    Some Studio Ghibli stuff.
    Paprika (so ****ing overrated)
    Redline (so ****ing underrated)
    Afro Samurai
    Afro Samurai Resurrection (very meh)

Think that's about it. Neon Genesis, One Piece, Samurai Champloo and Wolf's Rain are on my list plus a few others I can't remember.

Studio Ghibli is amazing; moreover Hayao Miyazaki. He's an exceptional director.

I liked Paprika a lot. It has a distinct uniqueness. It has that same quirkiness as other works by the director. For anyone that liked inception, I'd definatly recommend this because it's basically that turned to an anime, but better.

I still haven't seen Redline. It's at the top of my list, but something about the art just bugs me and I keep putting it off. It's very different than what I'm used to, which is a good thing, but something about it...

Neon Genesis is one of those animes you have to watch if you watch anime. It's a diamond in the jewelry case. <------ That was bad. Have you seen the two movies? If not i'd recommend you watch them because they follow the original series closely while giving a remastered look you don't want to miss.

The ending to Wolf's Rain depressed me for a while.

My problem with Paprika is that it was self-aware to the point of its self-awareness being the key thing that was supposed to set it apart. It did **** like over-sexualize parts that are otherwise not that sexualized (the main part i remember on that front is when her boss/friend or whatever is slowly getting consumed/morphed into the thing he's apart of and imagines her breasts or something). It was also really pretentious and confusing, like taking the LOST approach to storytelling to the Nth degree where it's all just questions then confusing mumbo jumbo when it gets to explaining it.

Redline is just pure fun btw. The animation is godly.

I watched half of Tekkon Kinkreet. I had the DVD, but it ended up being broken before I could watch the rest. :(

I loved what I watched though. The art was surreal, but the part I liked the most was the dialogue. The way the director implemented body langauge was very interesting.

Anyone have any recommendations for good anime to watch?
