I think the fact that they're such a high level and a quest npc nonetheless you'll most likely get caught every time. And I'm not sure if you can pickpocket clothing.

The items are probably hidden from you, like the items on any other essential NPC in the game.

    That.

When it comes to Armor, I've just realised that Daedric is better than Dragon Bone, even though Daedric is available at an earlier level if you have the smithing perks. But god damn, Daedric Armor isn't too easy to make.

Anyone know a mine with a good source of Ebony Ore?

Not sure about the ore part

Daedric is better but Dragon Bone is actually lighter.

On another note: two hours and I went from 18 smithing to 78

Directly south-east of Windhelm. Quite alot of it too. Mind the Orcs, they're neutral until provoked.

Anyone know of an NPC's house that is carrying a flawless ruby and/or a shop that sells it?

Stupid quest I'm doing requires one, I have all the other flawless stuff except the ruby.

And I'm getting tired of mining iron ore and never finding one.

I long ago broke that pact. I never regretted it for one second either, until I fast traveled to winterhold while two elder dragons were attacking it.

Discovering locations is a joy, so i never used the cart to get to any of the major cities, i walked there instead. Whenever i'm given a location to go to, i often fast travel a convenient distance and then cover the rest on foot.

I regularly go exploring though, so it pays to lift my feet up for a while during the more arduous journeys.

I did once, but that was because I was overburdened, so I used a Strength Potion and fast-traveled to sell some stuff. I still walk everywhere else though. Skyrim is so beautiful that you are really missing out if you just fast-travel everywhere. I may have to do it again though because my follower has disappeared and I can't complete a quest or gain any more followers until he reappears. ...not that I want any more followers. All they do is ruin my stealth attacks, block my arrows, and get downed in like two hits.

    This.

I explore all the time, so it's not like I'm missing out on anything by not fast travelling. Then there are those who argue I'm cutting down on game time. That's like saying: "Hey, you're cutting down on game time in Halo by not walking down that hallway, and back again, over and over."

If it wasn't for fast travelling, and I had to walk the same routes over and over again, the game would get stale quite quick.

Although out of the 60 hours I've played, a good half of them have just been pure exploration, or messing about in the wilderness. Hunting Giants and just talking to everyone I meet, or whatever. This game has so much content, I don't feel like I'm missing anything by not walking EVERYWHERE. In saying that, I barely ever fast travel if the location is nearby.

And I still haven't touched those Carraiges yet. And I never will, because I discovered all the main cities on foot.

I went out of my way early on to spend the gold to use the carriage just so I could fast travel to the cities later when I needed to.

Oh god its is such a pain in the ass to move ALL of my stuff stored in the shack in whiterun to my new home in solitude. Over 50 dragon bones and scales, and probably 1000 pounds of heavy armor sitting in one chest. Ugh, this will take forever.

Walk to Carraige, take carraige to the town.

Or drink some strength potions. Or take 3 or 4 separate trips.

    It's really not that difficult.

To be fully honest, I never even thought of that. Thanks.

EDIT: wow, I'm at 1926 weight now from doing this, damn I've got a ton of ****.

EDIT2: wait, have a better idea, just trade my stuff to a follower to carry for me, that should work, right? Nevermind, even they have a limit to what they can carry.

EDIT3: well, it was a good idea, but I cant use the carriage because Im overweight. Damnit all.
