Definitely got stuck in the companions. Vilkas wanted me to go beat up a guy in Riften (second Hired Muscle quest) who was in jail and impossible to get to (going to jail landed a different cell, his door was unopenable (not even selectable). Solved it by killing him with fire and only getting half of the reward.
my pickpocket was at like 17 and i did it. and as for that one guard, you can sneak like directly behind him then slowly move forward next to him until he goes into the "looking for you" mode. he detects that someone is there but doesnt actually see you. he'll draw his sword and walk around a bit looking for you and you can get down the stairs while his back is turned.
When in doubt, use a bow. Seriously. I have like 65 sneak, and I couldn't get passed a guy in the basement on the thieves guild mission. Then I remembered I could shoot an arrow just past where I needed to go so I could pass the guy in what was pretty much stomping around on my part. Pretty sure you could manage on like 20 sneak, maybe lower, if you're clever enough. Previous versions of missions were very straightforward, but Skyrim, thankfully, is taking the "be as cunning as your character is supposed to be" route and making you use critical thinking to get out of the situations you're put in, at least in the thieves guild. I love it. Also, on the beehive part, I kept getting spotted before making it to that small island, and then a dragon showed up and I was like "AWESOME" because he drew them off. Then I realized he burned all of the beehives, meaning I got scolded when I returned to the Thieves Den. Had to do that part like three times to get it right.
Just want to make it clear, anything related to any questline is a spoiler. Technically, higher level monsters are too but thats not as important; just make good use of the spoiler tags for quests. Sarge; the dark brotherhood follows that ingenuity train too. I distracted a guard by frenzying a fox, and took out the target while he was looking at the fight. Awesomeness incarnate! EDIT: Also, starting difficulty is determined by your preformance in the intro/tutorial thing. Mine was set to master as i walked out... And holy hell. Saber-tigers are the most terrifying beats ever, worse than dragons because they are fast as ****.
Sarge is totally right. I'm still working on my stealthy-archer build. My Sneak is around 80 and my Archery is around 60. It's awesome how you can take your bow, shoot across the room, the enemy creeps towards the noise, you're creeping behind the enemy with your daggers, and doing 15x damage is an amazing feeling. Or you can go the long/patient route and just shoot your enemies in sneak-mode. I've leveled everything in Sneak pretty much and I'm practically invisible.
Yeah the 15x sneak is awesome. Although so far i have only got one assassination move on a guy and i have like 50 backstab kills.
You know something, I have level 100 pickpocketing and I only finished the first thieves guild quest, I just got too busy with killing people for the dark brotherhood. My sneak level is like 81 or so, still working on archery and lockpicking. Trying for that treasure hunter perk on lockpicking. (my lockpicking is almost the required 70)
I've been mostly cave and camp raiding. The slow motion bow shots in sneak-mode give you the greatest feeling ever. I suggest it to everyone. Level your Archery and Sneak, lol.
So you hold for a power attack to do the assassination animation? I've tried both normal and power attacks and so far all i do is just hit them and they go down.
just a normal attack gives me the assassination animation more than the power attack. actually, ive never seen it when i use a power attack.
I'm a skilled archer, but I won't be using the handicap of built-in slo-mo. I would also like the Treasure hunter perk, but I really don't want to sink perks into easier lock-picking when I never had trouble to begin with.
Hell yeah, I'm using that too. I completely regret joining the Stormcloaks. After every single quest I do for them, I feel like ****. Like Spoiler When you take over Whiterun, and the Jarl tells you how disappointed he is in you. I love the actual missions of the TG, but I don't like them all that much compared to the Oblivion Thieves Guild, which was all about Honor and respect and what not. Nevertheless. And god freaking damn it, some of these Dwemer ruins go beyond amazing.
Agreed on the thieves guild. In Oblivion it was about restoring proper class order, so far in Skyrim it is about fear. In morrowind it was more like a legitamite guild (was tolerated because it kept the more unruly criminals off the streets)
I don't have this game and probably won't be getting it for a long time so I'm living vicariously through your guys' posts. I have a question though: Is it possible to switch back and forth between the Stormcloaks and the Imperials or once you choose, does the other side hate you for life? Just curious.
Was on my way to Jurgen Windcallers grave or whatever his name is and got jumped by a blood dragon. Was going fine with it, until a frost dragon decided he'd come and play too. After a lot of hide and seek, a lot of healing spells and fire bolts, I managed to beat both of them. But it took me about am hour, I'd say. Went down to where the frosty likely came from and found a word wall with the frost breath shout. Rapes. Was worth the time.
