Replicant Created by squidhands Recommended Gametypes: Throwdown Recommended Players: 4 The penultimate map produced for our Forge Hub 2v2 Throwdown tournament, Replicant is the latest offering from veteran forger squidhands. Due to close out the Loser Bracket in style, Replicant makes particular use of the no-AA starts in the spacing of bases and the four long lines of sight around the square of the map. Favouring a pair of Holograms over the AA pickups used in maps from previous rounds, the design is free from considerations of Sprint and invokes memories of similar indoor combat in Halo 3, such as that provided by Citadel. Whilst a central Grenade Launcher stands as a departure from the Rockets which have seen such heavy use in tournament maps so far, dual Snipers still remain at the core of pushes between each of the four corner bases. Any attempt at a setup, no matter how brief, should maintain solid line of sight on the open middle area. Barren as it may seem, the lower floor of this area actually provides a solid flanking route if opponents don't pay due attention to it, and a quick rush over top middle, via Grenade Launcher, can quickly clear out the two Sniper bases if you choose to hold there. Be sure to pay attention to the two windows on either side of top mid, as they offer a wide field of vision in perfect safety from the middle room. Only one map remains under wraps for our Throwdown lineup, so be sure to check out these final releases even if you're no longer in the tournament, they're well worth the wait. Dang, thats a sexy looking map you've made there. Great job! I still wish I was in the 2v2 tournament to compete on this map, it looks absolutely amazing! Well anyways, great job!
Wow Peg you're an animal! Didn't think this was gonna make it up before midnight. We just hired two more journos, where they at? ...Just kidding I had a lot of fun making the video for this one, even though it had a song request Needz moar metal! The map really is pretty sick, glad to see this one go up.
This map looks the best out of all the maps I've seen thus far in the competition (solely based on the video and pictures). There is a definitive atmosphere captured here and it really feels like a space station or some sort of futuristic compound. Excellent piece use and layout. It's too bad this is only for the Loser's Bracket.
By the way, the middle picture shows a good overview of the ladders that can bring you from the floor to the upper levels. Some of the testers never knew that, so I thought I'd point it out.
Great video Skisma, Moar metal indeed, though I think that song actually fit this map perfectly. Real eerie feeling, so that was a perfect request. Its hard to believe we started making these maps almost a year ago, it seems so long since I saw this map. Great job Squid. By the way, NEEDS MOAR SQUID MAPS!
May I ask what Samey means? I guess you mean, same as others in the tourney? I disagree, my map was symmetrical yet it plays, looks, and feels completely different from this map.
I think he means samey as in a whole other ton of competitive maps that were built in the coliseum and also have no focus on aesthetics. Just a bit bland. But I beg to differ. In fact this is probably my favorite map that has made it into the competition. Aesthetics are just decent enough and gameplay looks very solid. Well done, I'll make sure to DL tomorrow. And good luck to anybody still in the tournament!
It's really to bad being built in the colliseum doesnt provide such a good overview, from the pictures and video however it looks very nice, while theres a good bit of gray theres also still a few colorful areas to help players know where they are and make the map different as a whole. The only area I keep looking over and not really feeling is the sniper spawn, and all the large braces placed around it, I feel that area could of been done better. However I like seeing the use of 3x1 short blocks for small walkways and ramps, this makes it stand out from the other features and yes I get the same space station vibe, reminds me somewhat of a mix of citadel, heretic, orbital, even though the size is the largest difference. I always enjoy your maps and this is no exception, fast paced and intense when playing similiarly skilled players, its definately a map that takes getting used to lay out wise in the beginning but it does its job well. It'll be nice to see what happens once competition begins on this beast of a map , keep it up.
