So I was reading the Weekly Bulletin and came across this: Cool, right? Maybe Timberland/Ridgeline will actually be forgeable to an extent. Sorry if this is old news.
Is that gonna be in Halo Reach? Sorry if I'm a little behind this Halo stuff, I haven't been playing Halo for a couple days.
It would really be nice to be able to delete them on timberland because without the trees it would make a great smallish forge template.
wouldn't be that bad of an idea to have trees. As long as it doesnt cause framerate with some reason, im cool with it. It would be nice to have better grass. tincups don't look oh so fantastic.
I really do not care for placing trees so much as I care about just deleting the damned things. As long as I can do that, I'll be more than satisfied.
I hope we get some other natural stuff, like bushes, to make it easier to blend the trees into the map and create more scenic locales. Even without that, it's nice to see trees finally make it into a palette.
Someone's been playing too much CoD. When was the last time you saw a bush in Halo. Seriously think about it. As Scoba said, I'll be happier to remove trees than to add them. The downside is they will probably really mess with the lighting.
>implying that I have played CoD at any time within the last seven months, if not longer >implying that shrubs and small plants would be a ridiculous sight in a nature-themed forest map From the Halo Bulletin, I got the impression that we get one kind of tree to Forge. Yet the screenshots showed multiple different kinds (even if the differences were only subtle)... So I don't think the default trees on the map will be alterable.
The way I read that bulletin is that is sounded like there would be just 1 tree in the forge palette and the trees already there would not be removable. I mean why would there be if there was just 1 kind of tree and the map has loads of different trees. But we can hope.
Am I the only one that likes the idea of trees here? I see complaints all the time about how dull and grey the forge palette is. Now that we can add a natural element that isn't a rock most everyone is griping about frame rate stuff and itching to delete trees. I'm sure many "geniuses" will go freak'n hippy crazy and load up a lag fest of trees on thier 'Sweet new maps", but some of us with some sensibilities may want to spruce up (no pun intended) their maps with a couple of furs here and there. I say bring em on, lets go green and shoot at some freak'n trees man!
I would like to see a terrain editor to make our own trees, hills and cliffs and what not. I guess thats a little out of their league for now.
I didn't realize this was the case, that is unfortunate. (Not the colorful part, the only in Timberland part) I guess there is only so much they can do to the existing game and forge world. Adding forge pieces like trees to forge world would be sweet, but I am sure there are some unreal technical challenges to overcome if it is even possible. Oh well, it was fun to think about for like 5 minutes.
Trees sound really nice. They would be good as an Aesthetic part but people could also use them as a serious part of the Map and maybe make a Infection Map where Humans have to defend the Treehouses that are connected with each other using some kind of bridges in a similar fashion as Ewok Tree Houses in Star Wars. Or how about making a Conquest Map with that? I also hope Halo CE will bring more Scenery just like Halo 3 had cause Scenery looks very good in Infection Maps and it's the reason why i sometimes forge on Maps like Powerhouse or Highlands. Believe me, they're not that bad.
Just look at the way that the tree meshes with the ground- the ground is all jagged around the tree; looks forged IMO.
Now you're really stretching. If you zoom in close enough everything is "really jagged" to the ground. The artists aren't going to spend effort on roots and whatnot if the players will never notice it anyway.
I saw the leaked video of this tree. It seemed to have some rocks and dead wood attached to it at the base. So if you want just a tree, you have to bury it in the ground so only the top is showing. It came across like it was going to be a low tree, one you could not just walk under. It stood out on the palette list by itself, which suggests it was the only one. From what I saw overall, I am feeling a bit disappointed in the "forgeable tree".
