So I'm making a gametype for a race-ish, elimination style game. But I am having some major issues that I can't figure out. I probably should have lookes into this gametype before i built the map, as it is now in it's later stages, and I am just cleaning up the map and making it look nicer.

Annnnnyway, I'm trying to make a game type where:

    -Everybody spawns in warthogs
-You have one life per round
-The round ends after one lap
-You cannot kill the other players with your weapons (Either that or you cannot kill them easily)
-You can die from killballs and not from other players.

I have already partially designed the gametype with those settings in mind.
    The main gametype issues are:

-Some people spawn on spawn points, not in warthogs.
-When one person dies, the round ends (this happens to some people and not others in the match, I'm not sure why)
-Your camera view stays the same, at the checkpoint you died after, when you die.

I have a Prototype of the gametype and map that are in progress if you want to see for yourself what's going on. You will need a couple of people at least to try it if you want to see all the issues.

    Map Prototype

    Gametype Prototype

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

On race games, every one spawns on a vehicle. On yours its the same way, but it seems to take time for the vehicle to spawn under the player. I have seen this before, but only if the player jumps out of the vehicle, never upon respawn or initial spawn. But I am not much into race games, so i do not know for sure how this behavior should work overall.

You should be able to select how many lives, and either how many laps for the race or perhaps a score limit that is reached after the first lap.

For killing people, I do not know how you would limit damage by weapons and not kill ball. Look at damage modifiers in the game type and play with them...

To limit the lives but not have them see nothing, have unlimited lives, but have them respawn in a remote area (perhaps high in the sky looking down from a balcony that they cannot escape from). Then they are alive and can view the game play, but their death will not end the game too soon.

A regular race gametype you can use the following: Banshee,Warthog,Mongoose,Ghost. Then its just a matter of setting laps rounds and traits

Thank you very much!!! I never thought of this and it would actually help, this actually gives me more ideas for the map.

Also, what should I set for spawns?
A respawn zone with warthogs set to race_spawn?

You dont want to use respawn zones for race, as there are not any teams. Just use initial spawn points and respawn points and you can leave then neutral (no team) and don't need to apply any game type labels either.

Also, if you have them respawn in a trap box off the game play area, the vehicle will spawn under them - you won't be able to stop this. You will need to just try some things out and see what works.

Come to think of it, it may be possible that they're spawning on foot because there is insufficient room for a vehicle and no other spawns on the map provide such room. Just some speculation, though; you'd need to test to confirm.

Ok thanks guys, the only remaining issue I haven't cleared up is spawning.
I'm gonna give players around 1000% Health so, unless they're afk, they can't die from other players. They will still be able to die from kill balls however.

Also, how will people spawn somewhere other than the checkpoint they died at?

I took at look at your game type. The reason that people are not immediately spawning in a wart hog is because you modified the vehicle settings of the game type's weapons and vehicles to include vehicles = warthogs. What you are saying when you do this is that only wart hogs that the forger placed onto the map will be spawned on the map during the game - - or that all vehicles that the forger placed on the map will spawn as wart hogs, I don't recall which is correct. This interferes with race game types. Vehicles should be set to none for race games. That is, for race games, you want the game type to not spawn any vehicles that are placed on the map by the forger, but allow the game type to spawn the vehicle under the spawning player. The spawning of the player will place a vehicle under the player immediately upon spawn if you set this property back to none. Otherwise, it interferes and you have a delay effect that you have seen.

This means that if your map is only for race, then remove all vehicles from the map. They will be provided by the game type for you.

Also change game type labels for all initial spawn points and respawn points to RACE_SPAWN and drop the Respawn Zone.

I don't recall how I set up my race game, if I used Respawn Points or not. It may be that they respawn at the check points as part of the game type. Try placing some Respawn Points near the check points and see if they are used at all.
