outer haven? has a nice ring to it. I stuck with something I knew for mines name; The City of Ember.

Once the Bladecraft texturepack is updated to 1.8 (if it will be) I'll put some screenshots of mine up, It's more industrial than yours looks.

Always been a huge fan of the Metal Gear Solid series.

"Outer Heaven refers to a number of concepts, all pertaining to Big Boss's dream of ending abuse and exploitation of soldiers by the Patriots and politicians; his interpretation of The Boss's will. Big Boss was seemingly inspired to create Outer Heaven as a response to Army's Heaven, a supposed haven created by Gene for soldiers that would in fact be victimized in the pursuit of his goals. Big Boss stated that the true soldier's sanctuary lay "outside [Gene's] heaven."

    From the wiki.

So basing the core feel of it on that hence the inscription above the door of the station. It really fits too considering I'm building it on the outside corner of our server map, at least until expansion in 1.9.

Can't wait to see your pics man.

The City of Ember was a book about a city that was underground and they didn't know that they were underground, they thought that was the whole world. Then some kids found out some crap and ended escaping or whatever and found their way to the surface, they made it a movie but the book was way better.

Have you guys found a stronghold yet? I wanna find one that isn't all broken up by a ravine, like most of the ones on video.

haven't found one yet, I found the coolest ravine on my first world though. I was on a mountain, off centered, but it gave the feel of a volcano somewhat. That and there was water flowing into it that formed an nice underground lake at the bottom.

(ravines are one of my favorite parts of 1.8)

So there I am, digging away. I had recently started this single player world, and couldn't find a cave entrance to start mining from. The entrance to my make-shift tunnel lead directly to my house, so I figured "Run out of food? NO PROBLEM. No more tools? NO PROBLEM."

As I dug, I came across a block of wood. Perplexed, I excavate the area and discover a mine shaft. A simple hallway, a torch, some rails, and a small chest. Inside was a some bread and some iron, both of which I took. I already had a full stack of cooked beef, but who knows what could happen. A surplus isn't a bad thing.

I collect various amounts of iron and coal from the walls, and dug up rails along the way. Pretty soon I come across a split in the road, two diverging pathways. A tingling sensation trickled down my spine as I began to subconsciously worry about getting lost, as many had foretold could happen in these abandoned mine shafts. A zombie surprises me from the left, but I take him down with my iron sword and start traveling that direction.

It's a good thing I had constructed so many torches; the long halls of the mine shafts were endlessly black, in desperate need of illumination. I continue until I find that the mineshaft is bisected by a cave, which traveled sharply up, and sharply down. I hear a moan come from above, so I choose the downward path. I might actually find something good on this venture...

At this point, I had stopped wondering how I was going to get back. My self-confidence in my navigation skills got the better of me. So I march onwards, but slip, and fall into a water-flow.

Panic. I spread torches everywhere, and attempt to stop myself, but to no avail. I look downward, and see a fascinating structure; a large ravine, that has spots of caves on either side of it. Lava flowed about the bottom, but it was of no concern to me, because I knew that I would be able to land safely on obsidian after the water took me to the floor.

Once I land safely, I position myself on a block outside of the water flow. The view was stunning. It felt like the bottom of the world, like the very gods had cut into the Earth with a carving knife and pasted civilization right on top of it.

    And then I heard hissing.

From the rocky outcroppings, spiders began to fall down everywhere. Unusually small spiders. They careened across the cavern and landed either next to me, dying instantly, or on top of me. I'd heard of the creatures, poisonous by nature, and shockingly fast. Despite the wounds endured, it seemed as though luck was on my side, and I did not suffer a toxic demise.

The spiders fell constantly, but I had already ran away, along the obsidian flooring at full sprint, placing torches as I went. When I found a relatively safe spot to recuperate, I started construction of more torches and more tools. Where did all of my wood go... To make matters worse, my pickaxe was near expiration, as was my sword. And here I was, in the center of an underground ravine. But suddenly, I had a revelation:

    The mineshafts.

A plan began to formulate in my head, as I started collecting as much dirt from the walls as I could. I retraced my steps to the location where I had been ambushed my spiders, and I started to climb. Climb by placing dirt after dirt block underneath me. I reached a familiar, well-lit cavern, and followed it up a ways. Pretty soon, I found what I needed, and started construction on my tools and torches. Everything else had a wealth of supply, including food, which I had nearly forgotten about, as I checked my stomach. I ate, packed up my work bench, and continued on.

I'd continue writing, because that's like a tenth of what I just did, but I don't feel like it. Basically, I found a poison spider dungeon, found diamonds, found more mineshafts, ran into several endermen which nearly killed me had a creeper not saved my life, found an enderman dungeon, found more diamond, found a skeleton dungeon, realized my inventory was full, dug to the surface and built a massive lookout tower, see my house, go to my house, and relish in sweet victory.

    Iron: 168
    Diamond: 9
    Redstone: 31
Coal: (Considering how many torches I made on the fly, anywhere between 200-400.)
    Endermen pearls: 27
    Gold: 29
    Lapis: 56

also melon seeds, cocoa beans, buckets, and a golden apple.

Basically, that was the most intense spelunking expedition I've ever been on. I love you Notch, very, very much.

I've wanted to do an adventure map, but the things I'd want to do need NPC's and stuff.

EDIT: I tried the map out sharp, its decent. Im half asleep so i didnt read much. Is it weird that any time i see the word "bar" the music from mos eisley cantina in starwars starts playing in my head?

Epic story was epic, had something similar happen to me when I was at a friends house. God dammit I need a new computer.

I hope Minecraft on the box is half as good as this is now.
