The Date is June 6th, 1944. Allied forces have assembled in an attempt to take the beaches of Normandy on the northern coast of France. The United States 5th Ranger battalion has been assigned to take out four German artillery guns on a section of the coast named Pointe Du Hoc. To reach their objective, the Rangers must scale the cliffs and fight their way to the casemates holding the Guns. (Yes I am aware that the Guns were not in their casemates when the rangers reached them, but for game-play purposes, I had little choice.) After plenty of play-tests and multiple tweaks, Pointe Du Hoc, formerly codenamed Overlord (after the Military codename for the D-day operation), is ready. I actually received part of the inspiration from The D-day Pointe Du hoc mission in COD 2. For the cliffs and casemates, the obvious map choice was Standoff. No other map quite fit the bill, and I wanted to do something outside of Foundry. Due to the resource constraints of Standoff, I was forced to forgo aesthetics almost to the extreme in order to make the map function. To put it another way, the map is UGLY. However, it is fun.The attackers (Rangers) start on bridges below the cliffs, just above the death barrier. Two gravity lifts on each platform allows them to reach the top of the cliff to begin their assault. The Defenders, (Nazis) must protect the two Wraiths (Artillery pieces) that are in the casemates. (Shield doors were added to prevent the wraiths from leaving the casemates.) The Bomb will spawn in one of two locations, either at Silo 1 or 2 Once they have the bomb, the attackers can arm it in either of the casemates to score a point. The bomb arms instantly and the defenders have a 5 second disarm time, while the bomb will detonate after 15 seconds. Please provide Feedback and rate it. There was very little that I could do in terms of aesthetic qualities due to resource constraints, If you can think of anything to help, PLEASE tell me! Artillery Destroyed NOTE: I need to stress the importance of having the gametypes for this map. The gametype's setup makes the custom powerup into a 5 second sprint that marginally weakens the recipient, also, respawn, arming times, etc are set to work with the map. First Post, anyway, this should be under aethetic maps, but a good job overall, i like the trench idea and i hate Nazis (i'm jewish)
This is not my first post. Also: It's anything But pretty, How is it Aesthetic? Just added the download link Can't believe I forgot it! X(
looks cool will DL. I really like point du hoc b/c it was an important point to take to control the beachs
looks like a detailed and well thought out map, good job foregoing asthetics in an effort to make a good map, too many people get so caught up in how a map looks, rather than how it plays
Good job, and I agree this isn't aesthetic, it's in the right place. Anyway nice looking map, you don't see many maps on standoff anymore, great post by the way also...
Thank you for your comments, too few people are concerned with gameplay in comparison to looks. Just updated the OP.
dang u beat me to the punch. good consept but i think it could use some work. Ur cannon should be some what hidden and next to each other also they should be able to shoot. since during the battle the guns where neverfired. I think this idea could work better on a different map. I was planning on making mine on foundry. so i could have built it trenchs. but based on the map u placed it on and the part available to u it's not a bad try
Perhaps your criticism is less gracious than everyone elses's b/c of me beating you to the punch? Anyhoo, I built the casemates separately for gameplay purposes. I wrote a paper on D-Day so I am very well aware that the guns were never fired.
XD My reply was a tad satirical as well. No worries. Anyhoo, I intend to release my next Project (Unearthed: Pre DLC Map-Pack) on FH by the end of the week. I am also CONSIDERING remaking beaver creek on Avalanche.
Thank you. Just played it again today with a few friends. 4v4 is fun, but I really want to try it with a full 8v8.
I tried to stay as accurate as possible while maintaining good gameplay. In actual fact, the German artillery pieces that the rangers disabled were never fired on D-day and weren't actually in their casemates when found.
