    Voodoo
    Created by Whats A Scope?

    Recommended Gametypes: Throwdown
    Recommended Players: 4

This week sees a return to symmetry with the latest 2v2 Throwdown map from What's a Scope?, his parting gift before retiring from the journalistic cause. Voodoo may well be the largest map featured so far in the tournament, and it definitely has the strongest focus on open areas and extended lines of sight, particularly the dominant view down the whole length of the map. Two Snipers, one at either end of this central column, each require the player to venture in to the midst of these vulnerable, open central positions. The weapon compliment is rounded out with a precariously placed Rocket Launcher, and a central Overshield, to ensure that ranged weaponry doesn't run the show entirely.

Base control is incredibly important in controlling Rockets and one of the Snipers, though beware of the quick push route that the man-cannon at the other end provides, especially considering it can potentially offer access to a Sniper and Overshield in a single bound. After the more toned-down power weapon compliment offered by Hellium, Voodoo is a return to an emphasis on having lots to control, often enough coming down to a dilemma of what is most essential at a given second. Getting a comprehensive understanding of this map through practiced is key, even more so than previous rounds, as resorting to a run-n-gun approach will leave you prey to the wide open spaces that a good setup will exploit.

Off the bat, my first impressions are that this map looks very promising. I'm not participating in the competition, but I have played all the maps so far and I really like what I see. I also get a real big Damnation vibe just by looking at the pictures and video, which is always a huge plus for me as it's my number one favorite Halo map. i'm not really a huge fan of the Sniper Rifle in general so that kind of knocks this down a level for me but I really like the look of the Rocket spawn.

All in all, it looks good and I can't wait to try it out.

    Good job, WaS, again.

Two Snipers a Rocket and an Overshield? Dear God, here we go again. Why do a lot of Forgers insist on putting so many power weapons on their maps? It's a freaking 2v2 map, it doesn't need that many. I guess it wouldn't be that bad if they had limited ammo, but I'm still not a fan.

I dont understand, there are 3 power weapons and an OS. 2v2s usually set up with 3 weapons, where there's a fight to control the 3rd. what would you like to see, a sniper at each base with nothing out in the middle? Or better yet, lets just put rockets out in the middle and absolutely nothing else! That'll create some interesting scenarios! [/sarcasm]. If anything, this map has an unnecessary OS in the middle, but i just don't see it as a problem.

I just don't like the idea of there being a possibility of people getting more kills with power weapons than the primary spawn weapon (DMR). Personally I'd like to see a single power weapon to fight over and something like 2 AAs around to map to mix things up a little. (specifically talking about a map for the Throwdown) You don't have to put 3 (4 with the OS) power weapons on a 2v2 map to create interesting scenarios.

Apart from that the map looks good. I just checked it out in Forge and I really like how open the map is. The past few maps were so closed off which resulted in a lot of camping around corners (especially with the radar turned on), so this feels refreshing. It does seem like it would easily play well with 4v4 seeing as it's fairly big.

Looking forward to playing on it.

I actually have to disagree, Overdoziz. All the power weapons have no spare clips which helps alot. As for having a power weapon as ToD, that happens for at least one player a lot of the time in plenty of 4v4s and 2v2s, tbh more so when there are fewer power weapons. In my experience this is precisely because there are fewer, meaning that retaking control often involves just rushing more. Also, fewer power weapons generally means they have more spare ammo, otherwise they risk being a non issue, so they are even more self perpetuating in terms of kills. Having 3 spread out power weapons with very limited ammo provides the same amour of potential kills as one with multiple spare clips, but also allows for more diverse control situations and more control shifts between teams.

I agree that more isn't necessarily better, far from it, but when done like this I think it works rather well.

Overdoziz, this map would NOT work with a 4v4, I could tell you that just from pictures. And after a forge-through, that statement still stands. This is a 2v2 map through and through.

The weapons are a bit odd on this map, I will say. 90 second OS, two 2 minute snipers, and one 2 1/2 minute rocket launcher in a position that might as well be a dead zone. And each sniper is neutral. Huh. I certainly haven't seen this done before, but we'll see how it goes. Base control looks to be essential, so that must be why each sniper is neutral, to help dissuade players from staying to their bass constantly. I guess we'll see how it goes.

So even though my team isn't in anymore, I'm still going to DL this to play because it looks amazing. Probably will be one of my favorite 2v2s. Congratulations Scope. I can't wait for other Throwdown maps :)

Premise was a 2v2 sized map. This seems a bit bigger. 3v3 maybe?

It isn't the size that matters, it's the sight lines and the ability to spawn safely. There are actually very few safe spawns on this map, probably just enough to support a 2v2, but nothing more. I'd have to play it to really see, but there's each base and the back sniper area, so 3 spawn locations really. Anywhere else is totally exposed to the overlooks and power positions. Come to think of it, this might be the map where I try out a spawn-snipe on...

I think each base provides plenty of cover to spawn people in.

There's certainly cover, but imagine this:

Say there's each teammate on each base. Suddenly, the only safe spawning option for the opposite team is the back snipe side, which is iffy as it is, since it's such a low location. Now imagine a 3v3. What happens when there's one person at each location? Bad spawns, that's what happens. This is why I say 2v2, but no more.

This and a few others are literally the only good maps even posted on this website, god like did everyone forget how to forge or did aesthetics become to important........ anyways yeah this map is definetely 2v2 sized and as Kuroda said the sight lines and the ability to spawn. Good map id just stay away from so many laggy pieces.
