Edit: Final wave of pics are up!

Hey folks. I'm here with a teaser of one of my current projects, based on another campaign area from the final level, The Pillar of Autumn:

Still need help recognizing it? This might look more familiar in orange. Just imagine a pair of hunters and skirmishers waiting to kill you around the bend. (Try the mouseovers):

Some areas are more altered for game play purposes than others:

A peek into the smelting room:

The map has some resemblances to Halo 3's Longshore:

    The loading dock Gondola:

View of the crane (you say cliche, I say classic):

(Edt: yes, the tip of the crane has been fixed).

Have you ever been waiting at the elevator, just dying for a rocket launcher? If so, then this map is for you:

Feedback, ideas and name suggestions are always welcome. And, as always, if anyone is interested in testing, let me know either here or on xbox live (my gt: CyborgAnthro).

Thanks for viewing and for any other tips or comments you may have.

Is this a remake of the factory seen in the distance in Lone Wolf?

I believe this is the area in the level "Pillar of Autumn" just before you fight the hunters.

No, sorry. Who knows though, they may have included that area again in the background since you probably aren't too far from where you were in the previous level.
Ding ding ding! You are correct, sir. I'm sorry but I lied, there aren't any cookies. I have nothing to give you but the map once it's completed. I will also be adding more pics later tonight. Thanks for the interest!

Thanks! It wasn't meant to be a perfect replica but more of an inspired-by map. Of course sometimes that is an excuse for laziness (hehe) but several of the alterations I made were with competitive game play considerations in mind. Also, the scale had to be altered just for the sake of using pieces efficiently.

Btw, new pics are up. I will be adding a few more later in one final wave to show off the rest of the map.

Looks like a great remake and like you said, it is very reminiscent of Longshore. Not much more I can say, so good work. :p

Thanks, I'm happy about how the crane turned out even if it's a common thing in maps these days. Let me know if you want to help test.

GOD DAMMIT! I made a map EXACTLY like this, but for invasion. Looks like you beat me to putting it on Forgehub. Yours is very good, better than mine. I instantly recognized it, nice work!

Lol, thanks! No worries, I'm sure there will be interesting differences between our two versions. I've taken some creative liberties with my version to make it slayer and CTF friendly, but your invasion variant may play completely differently. You may actually beat me to release anyways since testing on this map has been on the back burner for a while. If you do release your version here, I'd love to see it and give feedback.

Thanks, it's actually been ready for a little while, but I've been working on other things. I can't stop creating lol. It plays well so far, but I've learned its just a bit too asymmetrical for two flag, so it'll probably just support one flag. Also, given the current layout and weapon placement, there are a few key hot spots that see way more activity than the rest of the map, so I am working on spreading out the areas of interest. I'll invite you some time if you're on when I'm testing.

Yeah, still "Working out the kinks" with Forgehub. I just want to make a few adjustments and figure out the pic system, and I will release it. You can use the link of a B.Net screenshot, put it on imageshack or photoshop, and throw it on a map thread, right?

Sounds good! Thanks. And, out of curiosity, do you sketch out your map? Cus I do.

I do sketch my maps generally. I have a notebook full of sketches, most of which have never made it as real maps. Even with recreations I find sketches helpful because they help me conceptualize ahead of time which pieces I'll be using to recreate a given structure. On this map, however, I never really made any sketches. I did take screenshots from the campaign beforehand though. The screens I used above were taken after construction though, since the comparison shots only highlight areas of the map that I actually recreated somewhat faithfully.

I like the idea of remaking a part of the campaign where you meet the hunters, but maybe on this part you could merge killballs into the the circular walkways and add a kill barrier so if you jump into it, you'd die. Just a thought...

I had the same thought and I really wanted to make this work but nixed it for two reasons:
    1. The kill balls are actually too big and would jut out to the sides of the round inclines no matter how much I reworked it.
    2. Kill balls kill frame rate and this map is already pushing it with its lovely long views.

If I really strove for accuracy on this area I would probably have to make it into a totally separate map (and I might move it to the underside of the cliff by the waterfall for the dark effect). Anyways, thanks for the idea, I appreciate it.
