Or am I just blind? I have no idea how you guys test your maps, but considering the testers guild turned me down and roughly 2% of people accept party invites, it's really...well, frustrating. I've been working on my map for at least a month and a half so far, and I've gotten all of one persons feedback..help?
Not really...thought a custom game matchmaking lobby would be nice. Just gotta make friends and even then you're not always guaranteed to find a good session.
You know ever since Halo 2 I have wondered why that is not an option. I can't imagine that it would be very hard to have a section where you can search custom game lobbies. I have seen plenty of FPS do this. Honestly, I think that would make forge more useful. Anyways, If you want you can throw me a friend request(Availablemoth) and maybe I can help you with your problem. Honestly though, since school has started for many people, I have noticed that it is harder to get maps tested.
Griefing and trolling, mainly. I've been thinking about getting people together and just playing each others maps once a week or something, but I never seem to find enough that stick around instead of nagging to get their map tested and then leave after they got what they wanted.
The Tuesday Night Customs that Grenade Gorilla and Nut Duster host are often full parties and go for a solid 3-4 hours with everyone getting a chance to play at least 1 or 2 matches on their maps. Typically there is a theme too, such as BTB or Objective. Scobro is right about the griefing and trolling though...every other lobby would be squeakers and horrible maps. However, this is reminiscent of many lobbies I've been in that weren't strictly friends or friends of friends that I'd seen around. Just because you know one person in a lobby doesn't mean jack, especially if it's mini-games or BTB.
Participate in TGIF, make some friends. Regularly attend one of the numerous custom game nights that are held by the Customs Lobby. Post your map again in the Tester's Guild. Join people when they ask for testers in the shoutbox. Plenty of opportunities.
Thanks for the advertisement! You need to find a lobby full of mature, dedicated old guys like us! We'd be happy to help. You'll get plenty of feedback too. Check our thread for this coming week. TGN TUESDAY 6th
The above advice is all good for getting custom lobbies and tests going. You just really have to get out there network with people and get those connections so that you can receive invites and get invites at the same time. When your in parties be sure to be helpful to the other map creators, giving feedback, and be a good member of the party. If you want to feel free to send me a friend request "DUCK NG" and i'll invite you when i'm in or starting a customs lobby.
My friends and I are running customs periodically for this purpose, and are even going to record gameplay and put it on youtube to get more exposure. I'm not sure when we will next run this, we have a full "real life" schedule coming up, but you can check out the thread HERE.
