Project Geminus (2v2 Map Pack) Updated 7/20/11 Foggy Update Released! 7.20.11 Beta Update Released! 7.14.11 Project Geminus began out of the idea that I never have a good map (of mine) that I can play with about 3 or 4 people. Often my friends would want to play custom games and I just didnt have a map small enough for us, usually I would make maps for about 8 players. So I tried my hand at a few 2v2 style maps. Project Geminus (All names of maps and map pack are very subject to change) contains three small maps, all made with a 2v2 game in mind. They range from players as low as 3 up to 6 between them and are made in locations that I rarely or have not yet forged in. I wanted to mix up the look and feel of these maps from others I have done. So I found areas I have not made a map in yet. On top of all that, I tried to use different weapons in each map, for instance one has a Plasma Rifle, another has a Spiker, one uses Needlers, and the last holds the Plasma Repeater. There are other examples, but this is the best. Notice: All [old] images shown are from a game between myself and two friends playing on a 3-way splitscreen, the only noticed lag was on one map (Project Greybox) and it was completely non-hindering due to the very minor effect of the lag. As of now all three maps are considered by myself as capable of holding up to 3 player splitscreen (Project Cyclone has had no issues with 2 player splitscreen, though has not been played with more than two). All images (old and new) also are not altered and show in game footage only. The Beta Update has been released today (7.14.11) and with it has been a beta testing version of all three maps, revised structure on all three, weapon changes, spawn edits, and numerous other minor edits to the maps. New screen shots only show major changes, such as new halls or weapons. Regard old images that are not featured in the new ones, as the same or without much change. Achromatic (previously Project Greybox)is a small asymmetrical map built up in the skybox and full of places to go up, down, and with most every area having at least 3 ways in and out. Power weapons as of now include a Grenade launcher (swapped out with Rocket Launcher) Sniper Rifle and a Shotgun. The Beta Update has altered weapon placement, added a hallway, and put a new balcony for the new Grenade Launcher spawn. Download Achromatic (Project Greybox Beta) Beta Update Images: Old Version Images: Spoiler Strange Cavern (Previously Project Fringe) uses one of the most difficult to use areas in Forge World - The Cave. Yes, the cave has eluded and discouraged many forgers since the release of Halo Reach, and it despite the difficulty of making a map in there, its even harder to make a good one. However as recent events have shown us maps in there can be made and they can be good! So I plan to try my hand at the cave, and using the outside beach I have also made the slope up the cave lessened. The Red side still has a slight height advantage, but they also have less cover the the Blue's Beach base. The Beta Update has altered spawning and weapons mostly, though a new room has been added very similar to the lower blue side room. New weapons include the Energy Sword, and two Concussion Rifles (0 clip). Download Strange Cavern (Project Fringe Beta) Beta Update Images: Above: I have added tactical jumps on either side of the bridge, they take a few quick jumps, though they can be useful for reaching the middle bridge. Old Version Images: Spoiler Project Cyclone is still in development, and due to lag and structural issues it is under massive reconstruction and now resembles no other map I have ever seen. It is currently an asymmetric design built on the island coast and is largely unmade. I will provide more information as soon as it is available. Final Elegy (Previously Project Fog) is the last of my 2v2 map pack. It was sudden creation and after a few tests I believe it is ready to be put in beta stage and to be a part of this map pack. The creation arose from the simple fact I wanted to have a dark map that used purple and blue lights. And a shield door. Without lag. Believe it or not, I have succeeded, in all the tests i have done there has been no screen lag. This map is just now being released in the Foggy Update and though it is late it is just as strong and visually standing out from the other three. Weapons include a rocket launcher, a few DMRs, and plenty of Needle weapons. The main difference is the commonly unused tools in this map, such as the shield door in the blue side, and this is my first map to contain Armor Abilities, being Evade and Drop Shield both at 75 second spawns. This has been a labor not just to play right, but to have a strong visual appeal as well. Special thanks to Sinless Legend for his great aesthetic advise. Notice: The shield door in the newer version is for slayer games only, however the current downloadable beta version is not set up for this, and also only set up for slayer. As always I will be looking for testers, and if you have any concerns please voice them. As for now the maps are still works in progress and are very subject to change. The Beta Update has released the maps in Beta version for download, so if you wish to play on them please download them by clicking the links above. Thank you for your time.
Project fringe looks really cool, it makes a good use of that mouth of the cave area. I would add at least one more power weapon though, just one concussion rifle seems a bit slim.
I agree, though I will do more testing first. The issue is that the center of the map is that bridge, and the rock under it (stock object in forgeworld) prevents me from putting anything below. Also the map is quite small, so it should be okay. I will definately look into other power weapons though. Thank you for your interest and the comment. Hopefully I will be able to get Project Cyclone farther under way too. I had a map, but I got upset with it and decided it would not be my 3rd in this pack. And it may not look like it by Greybox is surprisingly fun (from my 3 man FFA test). Im not trying to hide its absolute grey-ness here but i think it is quite interesting to play on. Hoping to get much more testing on them all though, and set all three up for multiple gametypes. as of now Greybox is only ready for slayer and Fringe only for slayer and CTF. Will be adding more to them in time.
Project Fringe is sweet. I've played it twice now and enjoyed it a lot both times, even though they were very casual free-for-alls. Greybox is going to be a hard sell but i think it's a really solid design for 2v2 play - lots of ways to get from anywhere to anywhere else, and a good mix of cover and open space.
Thank you, I am actually revamping the design of Achromatic/Greybox soon (though it will be a while before its released) and Fringe/ Strange Cavern just needs a few minor adjustments, maybe I'll run it through the TG after too. All projects are still being worked on, although I now have much less time to work on them due to college. Cyclone remains an atrocity for me. If it gets much worse I may not release it with the pack.
