Sector 10 within New Mombassa has seen better days. The air is thick with the pollution of an un-maintained ghost city parted only but the sounds of gun fire and mortars...

Keeping the text short and simple. This is a remake of the ODST firefight map 'Rally Point'. As with all my projects, it has taken almost 2 months to finish it due to, well, life. If you remember from ODST, there was an interior section on the map. This map doesn't have that due to object and budget restrictions as well the knowledge that it probably wont aid to gameplay if it was there.

    Weapons/Vehicle list:
    - 4x DMR - 30 sec
    - 2x Concussion Rifle - 90 sec
    - 2x Focus Rifle - 180 sec
    - 1x Rockets - 120 sec
    - 1x Grenade Launcher - 120 sec
    - 1x Human Turret
    - 2x Ghost - 120 sec
    - 1x Wraith - 180 sec

    Look familiar?

    I want that blue thing.

    That turret is pretty useful.

Thats where the interior might have been.

    Nice LoS bro.

    The streets. Look good ay?

    What a pretty urban garden.

The money shot that makes you wanna download the map.

    ENJOY!

It seems very well done but I don't remember any structure like those pillars and this roof in the middle of the map. You added them for a better gameplay? Anyway it's gonna complete my halo:ODST FF map collection.

Awesome! I couldn't wait for this to come out when i first saw the preview. One of my ODST faves. You nailed it as a remake and reaaally looks like you are in a city. A bit gray however, but as we're limited to grey pieces i think you did a brilliant job. I think you should always include how much ammo the weapons have in the map, and how long the respawn timer is. The 2x1 tallies sticking out of the floor looks a bit odd, along with the 2x3's.

This is quite the eye-pleaser. This map has some nice aesthetics along with some nice gameplay. The Wraith wasn't too overpowering until some Australian guy got in it and started wrecking **** *Cough* *Cough* *Crypto*..Ehem..Anyways, I can't play ODST anymore on my xbox due to its many many problems and this map makes me feel like I'm back in ODST wrecking it Bip bap bam style.

Keep it up Crypto, you'll get that second feature in no time. <3

When I played this yesterday, I certainly did not get the impression that the map was ready for release. The map is just too open, and while you'd have to make changes to the original design to fix this issue, I don't think the map plays very well as is. Someone got 14 kills with a focus rifle in a game that went to 50 kills. I believe this map once again has Data Hive Syndrome: the map looks great and very accurate to ODST, but falls far short in the gameplay department. That's not to say that the map can't be fun, but I feel like it could be a lot better. I also think that Windward would have played better as a competitive map, as it is smaller and less open.

Those central pillars were placed in later on in the construction of my map when I realised the LoS across the map needed to be broken up.

    Thanks man!
Those 2x1 are actually placed in accuracy with the original map. If you have a look in the ODST version there are little pillar things standing up next to the giant UNSC barricades. The 2x3s are pretty much LoS breakers. See the quote above this one.

    Cheers Eighty!
If I had that wraith from the start my team woulda dominated. Unless you have skilled wraith driver, that thing is hard to keep alive for very long as the enemy have so many vantage points and horizontal cover to get to it and destroy it.

Matter of opinion really. This map has been in testing for a while now and I believe it was finally at the point of release. As for the focus rifle... imagine if it was a sniper. RAWR DATA HIVE WAS GOOD! No I do take your critisism and understand where you could be coming from but honestly, you cant say you didn't have fun playing in this epicly recreated Firefight map. :D

Personal Goal: Get Psychoduck to love Alpha Site.

    Thanks bro!

In all srs'ness. I remember way back when I had a session on a younger version of this (Like yo mamma) and it was pretty good fun experimenting (with yo mamma). Tell me, did you ever create those under passages that I told you would be a good shout? They were pretty cool back in ODST mind.

    What the yo mama?

Nah I didn't include those under passages as it just didn't seem needed. Also, those tunnels weren't in ODST. Derp stevo...

Well I did a flythrough but havent played a game. This looks amazing. I think this was a great idea for a remake but I am very worried that the Framerate dragon will burn this map in game. I see you say its been tested many times si it probably doesnt, I just noticed how many glass and lighted items in such an open map seems like instant lag. If not though, its awesome and more power to you bro. I would love to get a game on this so anyone playing it, hit me up cuz it looks sick.

There maybe 1 or two areas where there is noticeable frame rate lag, for a map this size there is surprisingly little. I didn't ever get any major complaints during testing about frame rate lag.

This is a great remake. I agree about the frame rate though. I think some lag is inevitable with the long-view nature of this map. One suggestion that I think will help with this without sacrificing much aesthetically is this: the long railings (all those lights!) can be replaced by some tastefully merged 3x1 flats which are the same length. They don't look bad with the bottom half phased properly and they are the same length so you wouldn't have to adjust anything else. I agree with your decision to use focus rifles instead of snipers, which would be way too powerful on a map like this. Some of the aesthetics on this are amazing: the overhead structure, the sidewalks, etc. I was actually trying to do an ODST map or two and was hoping to use some of your side walk methods if you don't mind. There are a few bumpy steps as a result here and there but overall this is an excellent remake. I hope you don't give up on thinking of ways to improve the frame rate.

This looks fairly accurate, but Ill have to have a game or two to see what it plays like. Already in my download queue, so Ill check it out next time Im online. It does look very sweet though, Im very interested to see how some of the original map ideas translated into this. great job, you'll hear back from me soon. ;)

Yeah I might go back at some point and see if I can keep improving the frame rate, but at the moment I have moved on to work on other projects.
Also you may certainly use my sidewalk method.

Thanks man. Yeah get a game and tell me what you think.

Had a look at the map, its very cool. Although I noticed something I feel I should mention, there is some z-fighting in the area up the top in front of and around the turret. Don't know if its just in the game I played, as in the objects there may have shifted slightly, but you may want to check it out. (Just checked the images above, and you can see the places Im talking about in the 4th and 8th images ;) )

Other than that, I think you nailed the layout of the original, apart from the few obvious restrictions. An inside area would have been nice, but it probably wouldn't have been feasible with the limited amount of objects you have at hand. None the less, I like it, and Ill definitely be keeping this one in my playlist.

Alright I might check out that z-fighting problem. Didn't notice during testing.

    Also thanks!

I played on a long forgotten version many moons ago and really enjoyed myself. If you were ever online, I'd be wanting to play it again since I hardly remember much of the game. I only remember disliking the sidewalks because they were just high enough that you had to jump over it instead of being able to just keep holding the stick and bump over it.

Well the sidewalks have been lowered now so you can hold the stick and walk over it like normal. That gripe came up when the TG tested it so I fixed the sidewalk. Thanks for the comment frozen.
