Honestly, a 10 minute map making contest would be pointless. Unless somebody comes up with a minigame that involves minimal objects, this won't work. You can't make a map that's even reasonably enjoyable in 10 minutes as far as I'm concerned. If you want to get your point across that it can be accomplished, you do it, and submit a link to see what kind of a "map" you could make in 10 minutes.

I'm a grown-up with a job, so I could afford to give away some minor thing, probably. If the contest could be shaped up into something that doesn't angry up everyone's blood, maybe the powers that be here at Forge Hub would kick in a couple similarly small prizes. I don't want to turn this into a big thing (like the sound system for Throwdown) - it would just be something small, in keeping with the nature of this. I'm going to put some actual effort into researching this idea some time this weekend - I want to find out a) how long of a clip can be uploaded to one's file share (if there's even a limit); and b) how long it takes to fast forward through every minute of video (someone suggested it was 3x speed, but I'll confirm). Those factors would determine how long I can actually make this. I'd love to do 60 minutes or so, but that might be too much for either the fileshare system or my patience.
Maybe half an hour then?? I see myself putting something really simple together in half an hour Either that OR implement a cool idea I just had... Make the time limit one hour. Then when the maps are judged the maps will get a score out of one hundred based on a multitude of areas. Then, for every minute the map is under an hour, the map will get one point and for every minute over one point is taken away.
Half hour might be good. My real hope is that people would get creative with it - for instance I think if you pre-designed a fairly simple map, then got a person or two to co-forge with you, you could re-create the entire thing in a half hour without too much effort, even though a few pieces might be misaligned or whatever. Much of the time I spend forging is planning, editing, and lining up things just so. Well if you eliminate the first two by laying it all out in advance, eliminate the last one by being less anal retentive, and get some help, I imagine quite a bit more would be possible than you might think.
I'm not speaking on behalf of everyone else. Learn to read posts more carefully. My statement was a fact. Contests are not meant for fun. They're meant for competition and/or to show who is best at something. The fun is a bonus that may or may not come along with it. And no, most people don't agree with you. Most of the posts in this thread are spam conversations that should be carried out in a PM. Barely 10 people does not make up the entire community. I agree with you that contests can be fun, but that doesn't change anything as I've never said that contests can't be fun. I also agree with you on that last point, but again it does not change anything. If you think there's nothing to prove, stop posting in this thread because you obviously aren't trying to run a real contest. What we're trying to prove is who is the best at something, and again, this contest is a total waste of time. Stop trolling so much and I might consider your opinion.

On topic, I still like the concept of this contest idea, but it seems to be getting harder and harder to police. To clarify, the FF speed for Theater is 3x (3 seconds of film in one second, I believe), so it would be extremely aggravating to have to sit through X number of submission videos. If you are willing to sit through all the videos on FF, then be my guest. But if you did that, personally, I'd consider you crazy . Maybe if you came up with a way of culling them down, possibly by just having a run around in each of the maps, choosing a certain number (six maybe?) of the best, then viewing each of the videos for those chosen to make sure they adhered to the allotted time limit, and judging them individually by way of the Review Hub formula. I liked Berbs idea too, and that would probably require a lot less time-consuming methods. Though, you still may have to view each video to make sure they stayed within the time limits. I will be interested to see what the winning formula turns out to be.

And if somebody gets DQ'ed, go to the next best map and check THEIR video. This would save so much time and just get right to the point of verifying maps that actually have a chance of placing. It would make the contest much more manageable to judge, and allow me to greatly increase the allotted time - for instance an hour is pretty feasible if I only have to watch maybe 5 or 6 hour-long videos at 3x speed. It'll still be boring, but 2 hours worth of boring rather than 2 days. And hey if we make it an hour, then 4shot can give the contest a pass! MY LIFE IS COMPLETE
