Ok this map should not have a Banshee... there are not even and plasma psitols anywhere around the base, and its just too powerful a vehicle. There are not enough counters for it and it makes for too easy of kills, Hemorrhage would be better suited for it. That map at least has 2 snipers, plasma pistols and a load of ground vehicles. Utopie just sucks.
Ohh never played BTB that much anywho If it dosnt have any PP or sniper then the Banshee will dominate and have a Horrible gaming Experience.
I view it as an improved version of Paradiso. Problem is, there's only one Banshee. The thing is, there's enough on the map to counter the Banshee, so it's decently balanced.
It is a fixed up version of Paradiso- basically more ways out of the base, structural additions to the map, only 1 banshee in the middle, weapons moved around, etc... Also, the banshee should barely be in matchmaking, period. It is such an overpowered vehicle unless there are a ton of power weapons at each base.
Personally, I don't see the point in raging about a BTB MM map. The simple fact is, they all suck (sans Boneyard and Spire). It seems like the community maps were picked out by a seven yr old (no disrespect to the authors or the employee who chose them). I mean, most of them have massive framerate lag (disco), poor spawns, poor weapon + vehicle placement and poor design. I'm not saying I can do any better, it's just that the maps I see in MM should be up to MM standard, which they're not
I would have to disagree completely. I think maps like Wayont and Trident are incredibly well done and are actually balanced, while maps like Utopie, Spire, Boneyard, or Abridged are not so much; they either have a weapon set that doesn't beat the vehicles, bad spawns, or the objective is rarely able to be scored. The only thing that I like about Utopie is that it is much more of an improvement from Paradiso.
Wayont is a fantastic map. It's well balanced and it's (IMO) the best CTF map in Reach. Trident not so much.
I think the Banshee would be fine if they took away the banshee bomb and gave it more health. I love Spire! Everything else is ****, especially maps like Mt. Lam Lam and Abridged. Seriously, in Abridged, the bases are so sloppily forged its hard to walk around them.
agreed. Even making the banshee bomb's timer longer would do SOME justice. I hate spire; mainly in Invasion because the first tier, but the multiplayer map has some pretty bad weapons and tends to be based around gathering weapons and taking them to the top of the spire; not to mention the fact that most of the map is untouched. Spire was an insanely cool map in theory, but I think when it came to balancing it, it got sloppy. I don't really like Abridged because the base design and because the middle is incredibly open and I never play too much Mt Lam Lam, but when I do, I abuse the hell out of the sniper so I could see that being a problem. There are still some pretty good forge maps in that playlist, however.
Obviously you have not studied Utopie as much as you should. Utopie has PLENTY of power weapons suited for air combat, such as plasma pistols, a sniper rifle, a rocket launcher, a tank, a warthog, and a spartan laser, not to mention some for ground combat, such as shotguns, etc. I think that they balanced it very well, and only a very skilled banshee pilot can last for a long time, unless the people using the anti air weapons suck at it or use it to kill foot soldiers. Plus, you can easily take cover in the abundance of hiding places in the mountains. I only travel through the mountains now. Hemmorhage would be an absolutely HORRIBLE map to put any type of air vehicle on, because the whole ****ing map is open as hell except the caves, not to mention NO power weapons what so ever for dealing with air vehicles, except a plasma pistol (which is easy as hell to avoid with a banshee), a sniper rifle, and a plasma launcher (again, easy as hell to avoid). So, yeah, be quiet.
You mean someone who is constantly flipping and shooting banshee bombs? I ****ing hate those people. I'm sure that if they did have a banshee they would replace the plasma launcher with rockets.
That is why the banshee is overpowered, The flips should use half or more "boost". (maybe a little bomb radius nerf too) If there not flipping it's no problem use Rockets,DMRs,Sniper or if all else fails any other available weapons/vehicles.
Banshee is OP as ****, drop the bomb and make the tricks use boost and I think it would work in game.
Totally agreed OP, I hate racking up kills with a sniper then being blown to bits too many times by a banshee driver.
The banshee is a big problem in Reach. It needs nerfing. I don't like that in its current state, it basically seems like they made an uber-vehicle, then compensated by making it ridiculously fragile. The Halo 3 version was not nearly this bad - why mess with (at least partial) success? I don't see it as balanced that a banshee can easily hand you a killing frenzy unless someone happens to snipe it three times, in which case bye bye, banshee. It's just two bad balance ideas trying to cancel each other out - and failing, because still every time someone gets in a banshee, it's either 15 straight kills or immediate death, with very little in between. Now about these big team maps. I play a lot of big team and have since Halo CE, so I feel qualified to talk about this like a big shot authority type. Wayont is actually an *excellent* CTF map. I'm not as enamored of it for slayer but it works OK for that too. For me, this is one of the few community-forged maps in any playlist that I think rivals Bungie's own best efforts. Trident is also a very playable flag and slayer map, although there are a few things about it I'd like to fix (mostly the unneeded and unused lower level on the one side of the map, and the sniper spawn locations). I've had many good games on both of these. Utopie is pretty much just a better Paradiso, so your opinion of it will probably not be much different than your opinion of Paradiso. I could take it or leave it. Abridged is actually a very good flag and assault map, EXCEPT the forging, as already mentioned, is needlessly sloppy in a number of places. The bases are an OK idea realized so haphazardly that it drives me a little insane (though at least that gives me incentive to push out into the middle!). But the whole center area plays pretty well, the bridge and platform structure connecting the two man cannons is always fun and thick with bullets, and (most importantly) there are actually some good routes between the bases, including ways to be sneaky and get in and out unseen. This is a crucial aspect of assault and flag maps, and is overlooked on so many custom-made maps - Abridged at least gets that part right. Mt. Lam Lam is crap. Really bad crap. And it reminds me enough of Abridged (though a really terrible version of it) that I can't fathom why they put both in the playlist at the same time. Renegade is probably my least favorite of the community BTB maps. It's forged well at least, but the design and weapon/vehicle layout is pure annoyance. At least 80% of the games I've played on that map result in one team spawn-raping the other with a banshee/revenant combo. That central laser is just way too important, similar to my biggest issue with Standoff - whoever grabbed laser and killed the other team's hog gave their team the ticket to victory. Same goes with Renegade: take out the other team's banshee, and that frees YOUR banshee to kill their revenant, leading to a good two minutes of slaughter immediately thereafter. If it doesn't happen at the start of the game, it almost always does by the end, and it's very tedious. Plus the design really exaggerates something that happens naturally on a lot of big team maps anyway - the strategy of controlling a central power position and forcing the other team to always spawn (and die) in their own base. Renegade pretty much invites you to do this, and then makes it very tough on the other team to do anything about it once you're set up. As for the Bungie originals, they are sadly lacking in this game. The Spire is so blatantly just a campaign level twisted to fit big team. It works OK for slayer and snipers, really really sucks for objective games, and has far too creative of a layout (geometrically - or should I say, geographically) to ever be balanced properly. The only thing that saves it is sheer hugeness - make a map large enough and its inherent problems recede as players spread out all over the place. As for Boneyard, I like playing that map (I seem to always win on it) but 40% of it is completely unused outside of Invasion, the banshee is insanely overpowered, and the tank is pretty much useless unless the other team is terrible. On the rare occasions that both the tank and banshee have been destroyed for most of the match, I've enjoyed some good, competitive matches on Boneyard. But like The Spire it seems too much like a campaign level retrofitted to work with matchmaking than a proper, thought-out competitive map.
I wouldn't take the bomb away, maybe take it down a notch damage wise, increase timer, make the banshee flips/tricks drain the boost meter.
The issue with the bomb is that it's too effective in every way. It does a huge amount of damage, it has a fairly large blast radius, you can fire it pretty frequently, and it tracks - this last one being IMO the worst offense. I don't believe it did that in Halo 3 and I have no idea why they added it, considering the banshee was already overpowered.
