"We're putting new Forge build pieces in the maps," O'Connor said. "A good example is Beaver Creek. You want to make that map a little bit bigger, so we've added some tunnels and stuff. In the classic mode it'll be blocked off, but you can take that out in Forge. With the Forge, all the stuff that works in Reach multiplayer with work in the multiplayer component of this." Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition Details: 343's Frank O'Connor Talks - G4tv.com Excited guys?
After reading the article, your quote was all they really said, and it is sketchy. So I am not so excited and just waiting to see. It sounds like it will be a tempest size canvas and there are a few new things, but really that isn't like "a lot of new things". We will see, and it will be interesting, but not exciting if it is just another tempest canvas.
It actually sounds like there will be more pieces, but they will only be usable on specific maps. It doesn't seem like there will just be a new chunk of objects to choose from while building in Forge World.
Yeah chrono is right, this is a 343 response to It's making the other maps more forge-friendly, NOT making the sandbox bigger.
So... From what I gather, all it means is that The Anniversary maps will be Forge friendly to a certain degree. Ought to (hopefully) open a new realm of new ideas not on Forge World. Then again, people said the same about Tempest.
Ya, tempest was the closest thing to FW, but it was only half the pieces... that is what I sort of expect, but if they throw in a few new pieces, that is fine, but they would only be a few new pieces, not a whole new palette.
The problem is that Tempest isn't really available to all of Reach. Then again, Anniversary won't be either. Still, it will be an improvement for Forgers, large or small.
hopefully its not like Boneyard. also, i cant wait to see even more "improved versions" of beaver creek.
So it sounds like Halo 3 style forging with the reach interface...though I dont quite get this part: the Forge is on Halo: Anniversary right? Not Reach?
This better not be more f***ing driftwood. Also they really need to make a large skybox. One of the reasons tempest failed as a forge map is because the skybox is pathetically small.
A skybox in each map would be nice. And I hope we have decent peices and not just some decorative stuff and a ramp like [Reach's] Zealot.
This begs the question of course. What do you guys want from it? Bieng rather uncreative, the only things I can think of are: -Trees, for the love of god give us trees already! -Other natural objects maybe? Roots, vines, plants, bushes etc - A much more varied colour scheme, or better yet, let us pick the goddamn colours properly! -More building blocks, I hate it that their is no 1x4 flat, or even a 1x0.5 flat. -Staircases, actually decent human staircases not the random bycicle ramp forunner pieces of crap - More windows? We only have 2, and one doesn't line up with anything thanks to its slanted sides. -Every campaign drivable vehicle, I mean they're already coded into the game, this really can't be that hard to implement. Everything from forklifts, to carts, to grenade launcher falcons, to passenger warthogs, to pelicans, to phantoms, to fuel rod shades...Maybe even the mac gun? But I'm really not holding out much hop on the mac gun. -Pallets, great for zombie barricades, and the Halo 3 gametype where the zombie has a laser and the himans stand on pallets. (can't remember the name) -Dumpsters, seriously we get an object which can open and close and used for cover and hiding spots and we DON'T get it in the forge map? WTF Bungie? Like I said, I'm not that creative with thinking of what we could use, maybe you guys could do better?
To me, no DLC is really going to change forge in Reach. Sad but (IMO) true. Tempest is the perfect illustration of that. It wasn't the budget or the somewhat limited objects that discouraged forging - ultimately, it was the fact that not everybody could play the maps you made, so testing and customs on those maps became too difficult. Everybody I know that started forging on Tempest made 1-2 maps or nothing at all and ended up moving back to Forge World. So even if this does really expand the horizons on forge on paper... I don't think it will in practice. Plus, I kinda doubt any of these maps will actually be all that forge-friendly; probably just more so than the default Reach maps that aren't Forge World.
The difference is that this is a game not a DLC, remember when ODST came out and all the dlc's on Halo 3 became used by a LOT more people? Also tempest had a seriously small skybox to forge with, combine that with a lack of vehicles and lower budget, and suddenly the laser and pieces of driftwood don't seem worth it anymore... Honestly I'll be gratefull for any new forging enviroments, having maps with useless forge objects on them just doesn't make sense to me...It's just wasted pottential.
Yes it's a game, but there are two huge differences between this and ODST: one, it's not a new game. Lots of people have already played CE (including myself, though I'll be buying this one) and there have been substantial murmurs of "why would I buy this again?" Remains to be seen how big of a hit it is. I'd love for everybody in the Reach community to also buy this and have the new maps, but I suspect it actually won't be everybody. I know at least one guy in my regular testing/customs group thinks the whole idea of it is lame and almost certainly won't buy it, which immediately puts a cramp in my forging possibilities for it (unless he stops playing Reach between now and then). And two, from what has been announced so far they're not giving us "the whole Reach multiplayer experience" on an extra disc like they did with ODST. That was a good selling point and feature for that game; Anniversary doesn't have it, to my knowledge, and will probably see its sales shrink somewhat as a result.
I'm lucky enough in that me and nearly all my friends never played Halo 1...So everything on the disk will be brand new...Honestly I'm looking forward to the potential of more custom game options in the TU than the new forge options of CEA...Mainly because the TU is released sooner, and I'm not patient
There hasn't been any word on when the TU will be released. I'm pretty sure with all that's being done, the Title Update will probably be released alongside Anniversary. The only word of time has been that they will be announcing SOME of the features of the update at Halo Fest, which is at the very end of august. But that's it.
GODDAMI!!!1 At least it'll be twice as exciting when CEA and they'll have more time to work on the TU... Ah, it still doesn't make me feel any better. GODDAMIT!!!1
^ Double exclamation mark fail, lol. This was a great find, but nothing real huge was announced. I think were gonna have to wait a few more weeks for halofest to find any explicit details.
