Cryptum As of late, I am all map previews and no map posts. So have another preview. This time, it's a map called Cryptum that's all about competitive play. It's an asymmetrical map with room-based combat. Weapon placement to me is always what makes or breaks a map, and as ever I am indecisive about this map's weapons. Currently it includes: x2 Needle Rifle x1 DMR x1 Sniper Rifle (1 spare clip) x1 Needler x1 Plasma Rifle x1 Shotgun (1 spare clip) x1 Energy Sword x4 Plasma Grenades Most of the weapons are placed along the edges of the map. The middle feels kind of empty. Tentatively considering replacing the Shotgun (which spawns in the little hallway beneath Red Bridge) with a Concussion Rifle. Any feedback is very much appreciated. Thanks for looking.
The map looks good, but I hope it plays well too. I do have a question, is this map for slayer games, or one-sided objective games?
I'm planning on implementing both slayer and objective gametypes, although it will probably work best on slayer.
Welcome to the club of people who never finish stuff. Are those two by two talls for the floor in the first image? Whatever it is that looks great, and it's nice to see someone who doesn't have the two by four floor disease.
Yup, those are 2x2 Talls. Admittedly there are some 2x4's, mainly on that long stretch between the Energy Sword and the Needle Rifle. I used to have a pretty strong aversion towards Coliseum Walls as floors, but for the sake of performance on this map I think I've stomached for this map.
Using 2x4s isn't a bad thing, so don't take it as one. One persons opinion shouldn't change yours. I do agree they are overused, but they are still extremely effective and look better than coliseum walls. I'm actually replaceing some of the 2x4s on my map because I do think in a way they are overused. Anyways, this looks...Ok. Compared to your other works, I don't have much interest in this one. It could just be the screenpics, though. I don't mean to offend or be rude, btw. Your creativity in Abbey astounded me. That's the type of creativity I'd really like to see more of.
Thanks for the feedback, Eightball, much appreciated. No offense taken, this map is really gray. The layout was more of a focus. I hope it plays better than it looks. That said, I have more maps up my sleeves. They must be pretty big sleeves.
