Over the past few months, I've been dabbling in composing some electronic hipster bullshit to my SoundCloud. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in tuning in, and also if any of you guys were at all musical. If you are, post some of your work! If not, listen to everyone else's or post some other sexy tunes. Brick Breaker's Sounds. Any and all feedback is appreciated, positive and negative alike.
There seems to be a noticeable lack of snare in your songs . Could be because of program limitations, or maybe its just your style, I dont know. Still, they were cool, and well structured, I think. I used to be a mad FruityLoops junkie years ago, but havent done anything on it for a looooong time. I have some old songs around somewhere, if I could be bothered I might upload them to that Sound Cloud site and give some linkage to them. I warn you, they do suck.
All I'm using is Korg's iMS-20 for iPad, because I'm a poor bastard and can't afford a physical one. It's still pretty sexy though; exactly the same as the original, with midi input and a direct upload to SC.
the worst way to pitch something you've created is to preface the introduction with "this sucks but..." why should anyone bother checking it out when youve already told us it sucks? people dont like things that suck. be more positive about yourself, and if it does suck, lie. at least then someone might check it out.
You made all the tracks on your "cloud"? I do not want to sound like a ****, as I always support musicians, but they sound like you need a bit more practice, or time spent in the songs.
If you were referring to me, which you likely were, I only say they suck because Im my biggest critic and think I could do better. Other people have listened to all the **** I've made and said I have talent, but I dont want to seem like an egotistical prick by saying, "yeh, my songs are awesome and better than anyone elses, so you should listen to them because your life wont be complete until you do," or some drivel along the lines of that. When I say they suck, I mean only in my head in a retrospective point of view. I leave other peoples opinions up to them. If they like something I do, thats great, but I still think I could have done better with anything I've done. This goes for anything artistic. Sorry, didnt mean to ramble on, just thought I should explain myself a bit better. I promise that if I do end up posting some stuff I will be more positive. Matter of fact, I might just go do something now... [br][/br]Edited by merge: Just uploaded some of my old songs onto a new profile. Linky here, be kind. They have descriptions, if you're interested. Click the title of each song and it will give you a glimpse into my madness...
I'm not sure if this is a CnC thread but it seems kind of appropriate to help a fellow musician. It seems like in a lot of your songs, all of your samples, synths and sounds get blurred together. I want to make a simple suggestion of EQ'ing. The equalizer is your best friend when producing music. EQ'ing can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it. I'm no expert but here are some basic rules to follow: Higher frequencies are essentially the higher pitched part of a waveform. Obviously, the lower frequencies are the lower pitched parts of the waveform. Try subtracting frequencies before boosting frequencies. Not only does it make your song sound more authentic but it doesn't get distorted after toggling minor parameters. The mid-high frequency range is the devil, and is what cause the muddy and gritty sound that is sometimes an earsore. For kickdrums, I always boost the lowest fequency about 6Hz and subtract 6Hz from the highest frequency. If you took the last step, snares will naturally stand out from the kick drum. It's easier to hear higher frequencies and as such, I suggest layering snare drums on top of a kick. It makes it sound full and rich in club bangers. If your song has more than one instrumental going on at a time, try to isolate the instruments frequencies from each other on the EQ by making certain frequencies stand out in comparison to other isntruments. Also, I would like to suggest trying out other sample packs. The best sample packs that I have ever bought are from Vengeance Sound.
