    ILLYRIA
The Illyrian Pirates were the only threat to the Roman Navy 6-12 Players

    ILLYRIA SHORT TRAILER
    TRAILER

Illyria was originally inspired while I was listening to the song, 'La Mer.' I wanted to create a map that centered on a vast expanse of ocean. After the layout began to come together I settled on a roman aesthetic for the sea port.

The layout is based on high to low movement, and allowing quick movement between the levels. Each area has multiple paths and you can fall from the top floor without taking any damage. The map has three power weapons, the sword, the sniper, and the rocket launcher.

This map is the accumulation of three months of work. It has seen many versions. The changes were to perfect the flow of the map and framerate. The framerate has been tested up to 12 players and two player splitscreen. The map has been tested by over 40 players.

This map has been tested to death, and I would like to thank everyone for helping test the map and the excellent advice given.

Nice man, this was always enjoyable to play in testing. I'm glad you took my advice on the grid too. Did you move the Tardis?

It was fun to play on when we tested it earlier. It had a nice theme to it that other maps have not had. Did you ever add rails in the aqueduct? I remember when playing some people jumped into the water thinking that it was some sort of secret passage. The rails would help to limit the amount of players jumping into the water, or backing into it. Overall though the map was very fun to play on, and I enjoyed testing it.

Thanks for the great comments guys!

I tried placing railings in but without being sunken in they prohibited to much movement and sunken in they didn't solve the problem.

Instead I extended the size of the dock area and moved the floor at rockets out as well. Making the space between floors smaller and at a different location. You will notice the 1x4 blocks now run directly into the water. This makes clear that there is not a safe space below the water line and helps situational awareness while jumping. It also increases the floor space the player has to move side by side.

I haven't had anyone falling in or taking a suicidal leap since.

    Thanks again!

Well look at this another amazing map by atlas. This was a blast, but the only problem was that barely anybody went down to the bottom floor. but other than that it was a very good map.

    Challenge Accepted

I guess it can be done. The amazing aesthetic quality of Rhem combined with the engaging gameplay flow of Aegir. Perfect.

Yeah, unfortunately we only had time for a slayer game when we played. When playing objective gametypes, the bottom floor gets a lot more action. Also since I extended the dock, players have been getting into more fights down there as well. It was just to short before. Thanks for the comment!

You made the challenge, one which I quickly accepted. I loved making this map and appreciate the challenge and help you gave! Also keep an eye out for Aegir V2 I know you have been looking forward to that health pack :)

I did move it :) And I had a blast testing with you as well!

I appreciate that, I really tried to bring the aesthetics and layout together to create something unique, I hope you enjoy playing!

The needler is still on the bridge. When I moved it, the traffic on the bridge was noticeably less, and I wanted players to use all the routes to reach the top and move across the map. I haven't noticed any balance problems with it there as well.

I'm liking the bridge and lifts you've added (I wonder who mentioned those ideas...). I'm sure they've helped improve the flow and movement options significantly. I really liked this map the first time I played it, even with the problems it had. At least a few people who haven't played it before die at the beginning of every game while jet-packing around trying to break the map and get to the pirate ship. Easy targets. Looks good man, I'm definitely down to play the release version.

Players really wanted that ship to be a sniping spot, unfortunately for them the entire thing is covered in a soft kill so no cheap seats on this map! And thank you for all your help, your suggestions absolutely made this map better!

Hey man, sorry it took me so long to comment. Well the map is awesome I cant say much more. I love the atmosphere it gives off as well as the feel being somewhat of an Assassins Creed feel. Well thats what I think anyway, but I remember forging around on this map just checking it out and now I see that it has improved so much since I last saw it. All I can say is great job, this isnt a normal feeling map either. Its different, but still holds its own. Amazing job Atlas I hope to see more!

Thanks! It's funny you should mention Assassin's Creed. I actually just started playing the series, after I completed the map lol. I did get some inspiration after looking at FlyingShoe's Tuscan however, which I think he based on AC so it's cool to see that influence in the map. I was really stuck on the side buildings until I saw how he used his pieces in Tuscan. It really helped me keep the form and function of the map working together which was the goal for this map.

Nice to see I could give some inspiration, I was wondering when I read you hadn't played AC yourself. I am disappointed the ship couldn't be worked in, but I understand as well that it was a strange area for the flow. The well reminds me of Tuscan also, though I didn't think to have it go down to another level. Jealous.

Great map overall, I hope I can play the final version.

You need to invite me so I can comment on gameplay and so I can play your beautiful creations. That ship is sooo smexy and really adds a nice aesthetic touch. i think you're getting better with every map you post. Before I noticed you used to rape the bridges and platforms section of forge, but now you're using tons of building blocks and other different pieces. (Too lazy to name them.) Your maps always have something unique about them and this one doesn't look to disappoint. Please invite me for some games on this, or on future maps. Great work.

Thank you for this, Atlas. Not only was helping you forge it extremely nostalgic of when I studied Latin and the Roman culture and architecture, but playing on it was also a blast.

I was upset when the ship was severed because I myself enjoyed sniping from it, but it was necessary to stabilize the map.

Overall, very well done. The final version flowed well, played without any mishaps, and even surprised me a bit. Another outstanding map, Atlas.
