There's a maximum player count of 16 on my minecraft server.

There are about 10 active members that are on quite a lot, ones that are helpful and actually do the server well.

At least 5 of those are chicks.
2 of them are 16, one is 14 and one is 17. No idea about the other.

My point is, it's all random. When I'm in a pre game lobby in reach, I usually jump into random peoples profiles before the game begins. It's guys most of the time, but there are quite a few girls too.

However, in all my time on xbox live, I've heard about 4 chicks use their mic.

I also hang out with a group of about 6-7 people regularly. 3 of them are girls, they're gamers, and they're 15, 15 and 16.

From my experience, 16 seems to be the average age.

Honestly, I don't see why anyone finds it surprising. Maybe it's just me, but I wasn't under the impression it actually made a difference. I was under the impression it only made a difference to those loud mouthed 13 year old idiots who scream at everyone through their mic on live.

The part of that comic that was actually drawn by the maker of the comic was funny. The addition to it ruined it.

One reason I was so surprised is because 40% seems like a much larger percentage than I had anticipated. I'd say 20 or 30 percent would be understandable but judging from my life, I rarely recognize gamers as girls lol. I guess the main thing that surprises me is the possibility that so many females can go unnoticed.

My girlfriend plays Gear of War, Halo Reach, Call of Duty, L.A. Noire, Oblivion and Mass Effect 2 (on insanity) and she is 25... i got her age wrong yesterday she was angry :)

I think men are more prone to playing video games now because of FPS but she grew up in the time of JRPG but she has successfully transcended into the shooter era like myself. Her Male roomate is also a gamer... and douche... he gets so mad when i dont try and just rape and he is a try hard that cant rape... dont tell him i said that.mmm rape

    Addition:

I though id talk about her gaming habits. I always ask her why dont u have auto-sign in on ur xbox and she told me well sometimes i want to appear offline so i dont get bothered on my friendslist. (She has aboiut 20 very active players) So i ask her why not remove them? Because they are my friends and they would annoy me more for removing them. But she does say that in GEAR OF WAR she was way more active and played for hours on end. She has warned me that when Star war MMORPG comes out she may go to that... So frankly i hope it gets delayed forever or her computer.... breaks. Otherwise she will join me in GOW3 and we will rule the world as king and queen.

    Two words: The Sims

A lot of girls are playing The Sims which is basically a virtual doll house...

"The Sims franchise celebrates its ten year anniversary this year and an impressive more than 125 million units sold since its launch in February 2000." -Article Here

"Boys certainly play The Sims, but more than half of the game's players are female... That is a huge anomaly in an industry in which fewer than 25 percent of video game players are women; for many of the more violent and intense games that figure falls to less than 5 percent." -Article Here

So you take the Sims out of the equation and there are not nearly as many girl gamers out there as the OP's poll leads you to believe.

I made my girlfriend a promise that if she ever beats me at Halo in any standard gametype, I would buy her anything she wanted.

We're going on 2+ years now. I'm pretty confident. But to add to the discussion, my girlfriend is diabetic, and she has an xbox and a kinect so that when she has high blood sugar and it's absolutely freezing out (which it is most of the time here) she can have something entertaining to do indoors to help her regulate it. It works great. Other than that, she despises videogames.lol.

When you work on any sort of official thing that ends up giving some sort of data to the public (ex. a survey like this) you will realize how much bullshit is involved in anything of this sort.
Trust me. I've been part of things like this.

This. Statistics are never worth trusting.

I know girls who do, I know girls who don't, and this has traveled unfortunately close to sexist. If it crosses the line, :lock:. Keep it clean d00ds.

I forgot that my sister loves The Sims. She also plays a lot of Zoo Tycoon, Roller Coaster Tycoon (which isnt a bad game, I might add) and I got her a DSi plus Pokemon... something-or-other for Xmas last year, and she loved it. Both of us used to be huge Pokemon fans when we were younger, but I grew out of it. She kind of did too, but I knew she always still liked them. Me getting her that gift has rekindled her love of Pokemon though, because she went and bought about 4 other Pokemon games since then, and has started reading up about them online and is even considering getting another DSi so she can trade between games to complete her Pokedex. Scary dedication.

Also, my partner doesnt play videogames. She actually kind of hates them because I play them so much when she's trying to study :p. But she gets all excited when I fire up my SNES emulator and play Donkey Kong, as she loved those games when she was a kid. She also played Super Meat Boy with me for a brief period several months ago, but I think she got bored with it. To summarise, I think she likes 2D platformers. Was going to get her a Wii and the new Donkey Kong game for Xmas just gone, too, but couldnt find any decent deals. Plus, I probably would have played it more then her, anyway. :p

It's not that rare, I think, girls are just afraid to because when they try it's all "OMFG ITS A GIRL!!!" so they either make their gamertag unassuming and don't talk, quit it, or reap in all the attention by putting "girl" in their gamertag

I'm friends with quite a few girls who play games, as well as my girlfriend playing games (she plays more and is better than me; we're entering the 2v2 tournament together). And by games I mean Call of Duty, Halo, League of Legends...real games, not The Sims or Farmville. But admittedly, it is rare. Society says it's okay for boys to be gamers, but not too much, but girls can't be. It's pretty stupid if you ask me...especially knowing with Farmville and the like (which are "girl-acceptable" games), many girls are playing more than most boys do on Xbox.

I caught her playing a game called cute knight. My argument that she played hardcore games is not looking that convincing anymore.

In response to what Insane said, I know a girl who smashed her mic in the middle of a game to get some guys to stop being jackasses because she was beating them [insert sexist joke here]. Another punched her brother when he came home from college for taking both xboxes with him, and they say violent games don't contribute to teen violence lol. Another wants to see a real car crash "like the kind with explosions and stuff". And another actually joined into a conversation of how cool the blood splatter and gibbing in WaW was.

It seems like there's a sort of taboo against girls playing violent video games, but once they play them they get just as addicted as boys.

Most girls hate getting raped Steve.
