- Infectious - Infectious is to give Reach a small taste of Left 4 Dead without taking out fun gameplay trying to replicate the exact Left 4 Dead gameplay. You see, I didn't try to make zombies have the ability to be cloaked, or stronger, or run quicker from a powerup at there spawn like most Left 4 Dead replicated games. The map and game are supposed to just bring a small taste of Left 4 Dead. For example, humans spawn on one side of the map, and the safe haven is on the other side. Get to the safe have and you get supplies, buffed damage and health, and more points per kill. You can also find weapons along the way. But, as you get closer to the safe haven, you get closer to the respawn area for the zombies. Plus, you can't headshot zombies. So you need to just keep shooting them. Also, ammo is like gold in the game. The only weapon with plentiful ammo is the magnum. But I am not trying to make it impossible to survive either. The only zombies that can kill in one hit are alpha zombies. A normal zombie has to strike a human about three to four time before he kills him. But when it's the last three humans in a 16 player game...yeah...them humans gonna die. So I was able to implicate in a health pack item. And that's pretty much all there is to it. So here is a preview of the map. All the humans spawn here with a DMR with only two mags, and amagnum ammo stash. This is one of the two warthogs flipped over that hide an item. This one hids an assault rifle. Just one of the many structures along the way to the safe haven. Yet another structure. Though this tower has been shifted off its foundation due to a rockslide. The light house. It holds an ammo stash, assault rifle, a med kit, and a sniper rifle. Campers beware, It is not as easy to camp here as you think. Bottom floor of the light house. Top of the light house. My personal favorite, the bridge. Partly destroyed, and partly repaired. Warthogs substitutes as bridges on some parts of this area. There's also a shotgun and DMR here as well. The second overturned warthog. This one hides a health pack. The final ammo stash until the safe haven. Also located right at the zombie spawn. The safe haven. countains one med kit, two assault rifles, and a DMR. And that's the map. I hope you enjoy it as much as me and my friends have so far.
I have some questions then : Why should I download this map? What make it different from all the other journey maps? What's new or better in this map than an other? You only said that zombie cannot be headshot and it looks like they do not have other purpose than rushing for the human or waiting for the custom powerup to spawn. Do they have sprint/evade? Do they run fast? Jump high? Is there way to surprise the survivors? Place where survivors have to wait so the zombies can catch one or two? Other than that the aesthetic of the map looks great, the lighthouse is well done and the bridge too. The only thing is the Warthogs, by placing them like you did, player will have to flip them to pick the weapons and a flipping warthog looks a little bit akward in my idea. Since Infection maps really on realism, it breaks, in a very small proportion, the atmosphere of the map when you flip it. The map looks a bit empty too, there is not a lot of cover for the zombies. But I would need more people to play it correctly so I won't talk about the gameplay since I played it will only two friends.
First of all, I played it with 15 people before. All loved the map. Was really fun. The feeling and sight of all those zombies rushing really scares you for a few seconds. Second, what's different is...well...I don't know...the only journey one I played was back in Halo 3. Maybe it isn't different. But whether it is or not, it's still fun. And about the cover, there is plenty. It's only in some areas where it is lacking. I would've put in some more but the budget wouldn't allow.
Well I'll try to get more people to try it and if I can achieve to get 10+ then I'll be able to fully apreciate the map and tell you better feedbacks. You can look in the casual section, I think there is about four or five L4D style campaigns and even more journey maps just give a look.
