Yup, I warned the Owner to keep backups. Many times. But then again, in 3 weeks, we never had one serious grief, so I can see why he maybe forgot about it.

Nevertheless, if he had actually bothered, the server wouldn't be down for the next 3 days while we replace everything.

 

Wow the new tour for new members on Mining Bros is pretty impressive.

Anyways, a recent thought I had about 1.8... Will servers have to start a new map to have the new dungeons/ruins/NPC Villages/etc?

 

Almost definitely, as I'd say that stuff has to be generated, and doesn't form itself over time. And the generation process only happens when a world is first loaded, so probably.

 

Someone will most definitely design a mod to generate them in post-generation so you could have them on your world. Anyways, is anyone else thinking about Minecraft after the release? Do you think modding will take over or Notch continuing to update Minecraft until it loses popularity?

 

In some ways I hope so, because then I wouldn't have to include things that I don't want into my game, ie; rain (crashes my pc).

But in other ways I hope that it doesn't, as mods could clash with each other and be buggy.

 

He'll continue to expand for quite a while.

 

Good. I worried that if he didn't it would be taken into the modding community and slowly
the game would die. We all know once a game goes unofficial on the PC it slowly dies afterwards. Lets hope Minecraft stays "official" as long as it can.

I believe he already stated that Minecraft will never be finished, he will continue to work on it till the game slowly dies on itself.

 

What I wonder is when will he add mod support that will help prevent mods from clashing and make them easier to use. (Like switch between them in the main menu/pick what is used when you start up a map)

Don't quote me on this, but I believe he said something about the Modding API coming out at the same time as 1.8, which should make it possible to do things like that.
