Question: Must the map support other gametypes than Slayer? Will a map be higher rated just because it supports more gametypes?
Maps will not be judged more highly based on how many game types they support. It is a good idea to support the popular ones simply because people like being able to play whatever they want. For this contest though, you'll only be judged on how well it plays the gametype you recommend along with your submission.
I sense a plot to destroy the Jedi. Sorry, had to. Back OT, I still am stumped for where to go for my new platform map, and I'm also considering making an economy version of this other map I still need to test...it's not so much the 5000 budget that's bothering me; I can work with that...it's making a map that will stand out with only 5000 dollars...
Nice! You got loyal! Back OT once again, that is where the real contest is, and its up to each forger's creativity and clever use of pieces comes into play.
If you know how to use Forge pieces properly, then it shouldnt be a problem to come up with something standoutish. Try using a lot of what Forgeworld already offers in terms of natural geometry for floors, walls, cover etc, and then you'll have a lot more budget left for aesthetics/interesting design.
You might not have to make something crazy or new, just make something good. Look at Call of Duty: World at War. This is a game with a premise (WW2) that has been played to death, yet it was hailed by CoD fans as one of the best. The reason was because it was possibly the best WW2 game there was. So it doesnt have to be unique or inventive in any way, just make a crazy good map.
I just finished my sketch for my possible entry, but it might not hit the budget limit, and if it works better with more I will not cut for the contest. Still, I hope I can enter it when it is ready in a few weeks. Big change making a 6 player map from maps that usually need 6 players a team. Good luck with all this man!
Depends entirely on who decides to take it into their hands to test it. At the moment, I am prioritizing $5000 Budget Contest maps, as it gives me a change to get a good idea of a map, as I am one of the judges.
Ill probably be submitting my map for this contest to TG soon, so it'll be in your (hopefully) capable hands, Broc.
Apparently, if your name's "MrCheesy" you get your first map tested within days, but any other map will either take months or you'll never see the supposed 'feedback' they sent you. I'm just saying, don't submit your map to the TG with only a few days to spare. I've got three questions concerning the contest. 1) Is the budget limit just for geometry, or does it include weapons too? 2) Will your map be judged poorly if it's geared solely towards ultra competitive play. Aka, MLG? 3) Is it okay to post your submission to other places for testing and gathering opinions on the map (like mlgpro.com) before submitting it?
I submitted my map United five days ago and there has not been any feedback on it and was thinking it got forgotten or something along those lines.
Oh, you'd like a pile of rocks shaped like **** and balls in your capable hands, wouldnt you? ;P Its nothing like that, but depending on the person it may, metaphorically, resemble a pile of feces. Or an actual stack o' crap. 1) The budget pertains to everything used on your map, whether it be weapons, structure, effects or vehicles. You may finish up with $5000 and your map will still be eligible, but go to $4999 or below and you'll need to delete some things to bring it back up above the limit. 2) "May be any kind of map (except Aesthetic), ranging from your casual Invasion and Puzzle maps to your standard 4v4 competitive map and everything in between." -Frozenynx I believe it will be judged fairly no matter what gametype you choose, but it would be better to get the official info from Lynx himself, I suppose. This is merely conjecture. 3) Im not sure if this will be in the spirit of the contest, as its a ForgeHub.com contest, and putting it elsewhere may void your submission. Again, this is just conjecture, but I believe utilising the Testers Guild and recruiting members to test with from this site would be more along the guidelines of what this contest is about. Dont take this as final word though, its just me letting you know based on what has been already said. And because Lynx hasnt been on for a while, so you may not get an answer immediately.
