I do a lot of graphic stuff and photoshopping in my spare time, it's my other hobby besides forging. But anyways, a popular thing to do on graphic sites is a graphic worm. This is where one person starts on it, only makes a little of it, then passes it along. So I was wondering if we could adapt this to forging a slayer map like so: Spoiler 1) Vote in the poll above where you would like the location to be. (Vote option 10 (the cliffs) if you want the tunnel) 2) Grab one of the slots below. 2 if you think you are up to it. But no more than 2. 3) The slots go in order, so once you are done with your slot, contact the next slotholder. Phase 1: Map Planning Map planners come up with the main gameplay elements of the map and lay the groundwork for everyone to follow. Slot 1) Slot 2) Phase 2: Map Building Map builders build the basic structures that will be seen throughout the map. Map builders can only build onto existing structures and are allowed 1000$ of budget each. They must also post how much budget is left when they pass the map on. Slot 1) Frozenlynx Slot 2) Scorch199 Slot 3) Zenixlio Slot 4) Confused Flamingo Slot 5) Packeranatic Slot 6) Slot 7) Slot 8) Phase 3: Map Aesthetics Aesthetic Forgers' goals are to focus on the aesthetical appeal of the map. They are granted the power to edit or delete existing structures on the map, but still have the 1000$ budget constraint that map builders have. Aesthetic Forgers cannot be Map Builders as well. Slot 1) Zatherla Slot 2) FaceMelterKitty Phase 4: Weapon and Spawn Placement Weapon and Spawn Placers have the power to choose where to place weapons on the map. They have no budget limit, but have THE most important job. Slot 1) broccollipie Slot 2) Final Phase: Testing Anyone and everyone is encouraged to test! If problems are found with the map, it will fall into one of the 3 previous categories and members can opt to fix it i.e. weapons are unbalanced, weapon placers are called back into fix it; framerate problems, map builders are called back in. Post if you want a slot or if you think it's a good/bad idea with reasons why it would be a good/bad idea. A final note: If this idea takes off I will only help coordinate members contacting the next slotholder.
Thats a pretty cool idea. If everyone can be coordinated enough to get it to work, it'd be a fun thing. Oh, and I vote Lagoon.
I remember there was one of these that the Premiums did back on Foundry in Halo 3, I don't know if it ever got finished, or even if it was serious. I'm terrible at Forging, so I'm just going to watch how this unfolds.
Well, I guess you could consider this semi-serious, the goal in the end is to have a playable map, while having fun with the community. Now that I think about it (again), I may slash the number of map builders in half and give them 1000 budget depending on the turnout.
this has been done before and failed because too many people being involved makes all the ideas start to clash and it ends up being a big pile of ****. good luck!
do i smell contest??? yea it would be a pile of *** but who could make the best??? anyways other than a good contest idea i don't see this work out well.... maybe a map where there are 8 people and each has their own part to contribute.... again contest idea but...... still don't see it work out well (-=
Aesthetics should be built into the map, not onto it. Having people who's only job is to make the map look nice does little for the overall product. There are about fifteen other issues I can see with this, but that could just be me and my cynicism so prove me wrong! Good luck to you all! ^_^
packeranatic? well i agree with reflex 100% with halo three it was like that... it was hard to be aesthetically pleasing while bringing in good gameplay... but in reach the possibilities are almost endless.... you have plenty of room to be aesthetically pleasing as you want... so today forgers have to thing bot aesthetically and gameplay wise with the amount of space and parts you have.......... if i had a choice i would build everything on a grid leave the split parts open so you and your buddies know where to leave a path... (where each map meets) and build their map separately and then come together all at one time and place each part on the same grid as their own map piece I think i might have made sense..... well in my mind i did
In theory this is an excellent idea, but, unfortunately, I dont think it will play out too well in practice. Like many in this thread have said before, there will be too many clashing ideas, and it will likely end up in turmoil because it may not tie together well. I know the purpose of this is to build on others ideas, but unless the participants communicate well with each other, it will probably turn out to be a disaster. Its a shame because Id like to see this idea come together and make something cool. In all likelihood Ill probably end up signing myself up for something, but we'll see.
Hahaha. And I'm sure somebody will spawn loads of constantly exploding vehicles hidden on the map along the way, too.
Ha! That made my day! =) But anyways, sorry I was awol for a bit. Right now we're tied between the lagoon and coastline, so anywhere around there should be fine. I'll PM further details to Frozenlynx. Some notes: I slashed out the map planners and gave the map builders 1000 budget to work with. There are still slots to fill if you want in and I am adding myself last to the list of builders.
