How do you guys Forge? Use the options above to vote in what usually do, if you choose other; describe what you do with a comment below! I'm generally curious what the general public does while in Forge.
Ahh fair enough. I thought you could make a poll when you make the thread. Anyway, I chose other, because I use rotation snap, left stick and co-ordinates, but not zooming. I didnt know zooming did anything other than zoom.
I do everything minus coordinates. I use them sometimes but I find myself just placing stuff that majority of the time. If anything I use it for height mostly.
I use a combination of Rotation snapping, co-ordinates and the left stick on my maps. Normally the first two to place it then the left stick to fix it up a bit.
I just use all tools at my disposal. Whatever gets the job done and done well I use. Which is a mixture of everything.
I use all of the above at different times, just depending what I need to accomplish. The only thing I use almost all of the time is rotation snap - you really can't make a competent map without it. The only thing I use seldom is coordinate editing - sometimes I have to, but generally I find it tedious and you end up compensating for the z-fighting anyway. Most of the time I eyeball it and use zoom + left stick to get everything as lined up as possible, then I run over each piece connection a few times to make sure there are no bumps. Works for me. But on other maps (most notably Goosechase Stadium) I have used coordinates extensively.
I almost always use the coordinate grid and rotation snapping, which I usually try to keep at 45 by default. The only way I'll ever place an object off of the coordinate system is if I'm nudging to get rid of Z-fighting, or if the object doesn't fit for some reason. Otherwise, everything has to line up perfectly
Do you guys know that if you have two objects z-fighting you can make one of the objects go down .1 point then quickly x out of the coordination editing after you go back up .1 point and it will stop, most of my maps are done like that when I use coordinates.
Badly. Just kidding, I tend to use co-ordinate and rotation snapping quite often, but there are occasions where doing it by hand is simply more accurate.
Clarification - you really can't make a competent map without it unless you use normal physics for objects most of the time, and let the objects bump up against each other to correct for the tiny rotation errors you've committed in doing it by hand/eye. If you use phased physics most of the time and do maps in weird places (i.e. not the coliseum), rotation snap is a must-have tool.
ok that makes more sense. Back onto topic, I use a combination off all techniques. I expect most people do. Many situations require a different approach in order to reach the desired effect. Most experieced forgers will have their own ways of going about things.
