Well i have had an idea for a map for a very long time, but never had the willpower to be able to finish it off. I have tried it a few times, but long before i have the ability in forge that i have now. This idea has progressed a long way since then. This idea has since developed into a map that would support a mixture of objective based gametypes, but would seem alot different from many of the other maps in this category. My idea was to create a map that would cater for a completely different style of 1 sided objective gameplay. This would also contain a gametype i have been thinking of for a while, which is '1 sided Conquest'. Attackers would spawn at the bottom floor, Defenders at the top. The arrows represent ways in which the player can go down a floor (Through a small gap). There would also be ways up (and down) on iether sides, so the ramps on the picture will not be the only way upwards. Please dont look at the image and think, that because its a simply made image then my map will be simple. Just take my forging skills, and mix it with the shape i have described. Im going to make sure there are plenty of really interesting things present. It wont be a big ugly square(s). I cant get on Halo for a little while, and thought it would be a good idea to spend my time asking the community what they think of my idea. I am up for any criticism, anything you think will or wont work. I am also looking for any ideas regarding gameplay, aesthetics, weapons, you name it.
Wow I'm envisioning it in my head in 3D and already from what I can tell it seems like a really cool idea.
this sounds interesting... i'm trying to figure out that picture but the description sounds like it could be something cool. Just a vertical conquest? Really though the picture makes this idea look a little confusing and fail. I'd need to further know what you want this to look like to give an exact opinion.
From what I can tell, or what I see in my head is it would be like a staircase circling around. But in a rectangle shape, not a circle xD Make sense?
There is not much more i can do until i get a Halo back. Green boxes represent double boxes, which im going to do 2 double box lengths long. Yellow represents ramps, made by Stairs and single boxes. Im going to try and not use a single mancannon, and keep the map as fluid and free-flowing as possible. I am also going to make sure that the little holes are going to be very interesting and not overpowering. I know the image very simple, but its the gameplay flaws that im trying to correct early. Dont worry with the geometry i can make all that fine. The idea would be that it is very quickly to go down a floor, but very risky. The attackers would be forced to work their way upwards, and having to use longer routes. I would obviously have to find a good balance with this.
note wrong thread hehehe for weapons long range and some short range mix things up abit and make some hidden area's and good sniping spots
matty don't take anything i said too seriously, we'll all just have to wait and see it put into action. I know you can make some good maps.
Updated with Conquest locations. The conquest variant would merely play as the Territories gametype that is present in matchmaking. All of the territories would show, i would just make it as impossible as i can for a player to go ahead of one territory and capture the next one.
Matty, do you think you can make a more realistic design with this site? http://img81.imageshack.us/my.php?image=foundryky5.swf&width=800 it is also in the forge disusion on one of the stickys, called Foundry designer. I think more people can get a better look at your idea then. But from what I can tell it looks/seems intresting, and I'm sure it will be fantastic when your done.
That programme is very simple. I wont be able to make anything decent using that because alot of the scenery i add wont be at a horizontal angle. I should have Halo tommorow, and i may even have my graphics tablet, if so i will draw up some images and get some H3 screens of what i am trying to do.
I really like the idea, there have been lots of Conquest maps but not ones going vertically, and one-sided. The one thing to keep in mind is this sounds difficult for weapon placement.
that site is pretty cool, but it doesn't have a lot of 3 dimensional twists that are very common nowadays, if there was a site that had that, i would be in love...
Yea but it will be 1 sided, the team with the upper levels will be defending against the attackers coming from the lower levels.
Thats BA, you should definitely go for it. Try to make it so you can still jump a bit on the lower levels. I hate the maps with multi-levels and you cant jump cause you hit the floor of the level above it.
IMO the indicated corner of blackout would be great for this. What were u thinking of weapon-wise? I think generally the floors should be more easily defended the higher up they are. You could do this by giving higher floors turrets, power drains to throw in ascending ramps and giving attackers fewer access points on each successive floor.
