Remake H1 khiron

    H2 KHIRON

    ALL MAJOR GAME TYPES SUPPORTED!

    Chiron TL-34 from Halo CE, I knew from the start, was going to be one of the most difficult maps to remake because of the limited amount of teleporters available in forge.

    This gameplay footage was taken from an earlier build. You may notice some differences between the video, and what is available for download. The walk-through below is of the current version. Changes that have been implemented are:

    -Increased playable space in some rooms to allow for better armor ability use.
    – Removed the teleporter frames to allow for Elite character use.
    - Decreased the number of objects used in some rooms to free up even more budget.
    – Rearranged some rooms to allow for better movement from one room to the next.
    - Changed the Rocket Room to look more like the original.
    – Added some minor aesthetic touches.

    (Here you’ll find a walkthrough of the map. I make a point to go through most areas on the map and also to show how quickly you can traverse the rooms, that is, if no one is shooting at you. This is the new version of KHIRON with all the recent updates.)

    (I’ll try to keep this short and to the point as I’m busy, you’re busy, and you’re mostly here to download good maps.)

    The hardest part about remaking this map was the planning. In retrospect, I could have used even less budget by incorporating more of the walls, floor, and ceiling of the ‘Hangar’ with the rooms I was creating. When I first started, I went online and found great floor plans other people had already created from the original. Using top-down photos of each room, I could see how they connected with the ‘complicated and often times confusing’ teleporter system. Although it seemed that way to most people, in fact, the map made complete sense when you looked at it from this perspective.

    As I was in my planning stage I realized that most of the tele- connected rooms could easily be created without using teleporters. A few of the rooms however were so far away from the previous room that a teleporter was necessary. I started first by plotting out on the picture above exactly how I’d make use of them. After I had no teleporters left, I substituted teleporters with shield doors, to simulate a ‘disconnected’ experience. This works surprisingly well while making the map less complicated and less confusing to the majority of players.

    When Halo 3 first came out, I wanted to remake this map. It was impossible because of the lack of space, budget, etc. available to me. Because of this, I had decided this would be one of the first I would tackle when Reach finally released. I started by picking the location called the ‘Hangar’ to build in. I chose this space because of the darkness it provided away from those blasted sunbeams… I also knew that space was going to be tight so I’d have to be methodical in my planning so I wouldn’t run out of room.

    I started out with the floor and used temporary markers using ‘double walls’ to plot out the rough floor plans. After I had that done, it seemed to come together very quickly. I only ran into problems when I started running out of budget and materials. With some ingenious uses of structures already present, I managed to have plenty left over for weapons, power-ups, and finishing touches.

    While this was never my favorite map in CE, I do keep remakes of the old maps on my hard drive and this will definitely be the new Chiron I use! I really love how you kept the layout but altered the look into something very interesting and creative. I particularly like the open dish that you used! My biggest problem with the original map was the aesthetics so you may have breathed new life into this map for me. Great Forging!

    You're absolutely right about the aesthetics. As I was creating mine, I had downloaded a couple of other remakes of this same map. They seemed very gray and flat. I found that by using many different types of objects, I could get a unique feel, while also using less objects to keep my budget high. It was a win win. Thank you for the comment.

    You should try using the shield doors overlapping capture plates for some of the teleporters. That way, it makes it more like the original in that you can't see through to the other side, and adds to the disorienting feel.

    Otherwise, this map looks pretty neat. props.

    Why does it say H2?
    Final question, have you tested the map to make sure the teles work with Elites? I only ask b/c I normally use Elites, so it'd be nice to know if the teleporters work with them.

    GAH!! I didn't realize that about H2, it should definitely be H1. I posted the other map last night and it was H1. Haha... and about using the capture plates.. that's a very interesting thought. I'll try that when i get home and see how it looks. Cheers!

    I can't wait to do shotguns on this map!! :D

    However, I sometimes like to back into portals, and with the blue on the wall, I am fearing that those were 1 way shields... are they? The last thing I want is to get stuck there...

    Definitely love what you did with the look of everything, it makes it more appealing.

    You were right...

    Those changes made a big difference. Definitely the best remake of this map buddy. Can't wait for you to get your Headlong on here!!!!
