    THE PIT RE-FIT

PLEASE READ: This is a re-fit of a remake of The Pit by dt192. My playing group and I looked at numerous Pit remakes for me to re-fit one and bring it as close as possible to the scale, look and feel we wanted of the Halo 3 original map to play Classic Slayer.

Kudos and thanks to my friend and the original map maker dt192 and invite you to look at his before version at Bungie.net : Halo Reach : File Details. His map was chosen because it was the best we found that closely matched the scale, placement and look of the original. Damn good job for his first map.

Because I am an primarily an Aesthetic map maker I wanted to rebuild this map so you really felt like you were on The Pit. For me, it meant selecting and changing walls, floors, etc. that gave the map a uniform look plus I added as much detail as possible to get the same feel as the original.

One of my main goals was that wherever you spawned you knew where you were. This became important after we looked at all the remakes, and in many, we had no idea where we were when we spawned.

This map is set up for Slayer only. Like I said, I re-fit this map for us to play Classic Slayer. We think it’s the best PIT yet (of course we do) and a great base map for anyone who wants to add more game types.

One note: If you want to add game/kill/spawn zones you’ll probably have to delete some of the Flag Stands and Capture Plates I used for Aesthetic detail because I about maxed out total piece placement on this map.

One thing I have learned from my re-fits of this map, Guardian and Construct is that there has to be compromise in the scale, weapons and overall look of these maps with the tools we have in Reach Forge and the budget limit. But for me, it’s the best I could do.

Thanks to my group for help in critiquing and testing this map and in particular to Ragnar0k26 and timmypanic for their critical eye and advise on better parts choices. A special thanks to dt192 (yep, the original map maker) for his help in many of the important final fine details.

This is absolutely fantastic. I can really appreciate your attention to detail and spawn orientation. I won't be able to play on this till the weekend but I was just wondering what the weapon list on the map is. Obviously this is one of those areas that compromises had to be made...

Once again great job, can't wait to play on it

Thanks Mercy. I appreciate your compliments. Many visits back to the Halo 3 PIT to re-fit this map and try and get it right. Little things like the little gap under the turret barracades and the gap at the top of the Green Box wall I thought important to put in. Plus, big things like adding an Attic. As well as the many objects, lights and even cameras to give it the right look and feel.

Weapons, DMR for BR, Percussion Rifle for BS, AR for SMG, I replaced Maulers in Flag room with Plasma Pistols but kept same respawn times and as in the original remake I replaced Power Drain with Grenade Launcher but only 1 reload. All re-spawn times are the original except the Health Packs at the turrets which I set to 45 secs instead of 90 secs like the Regenerations were (it's Reach). I think you'll find this a great map to play The Pit on Reach.

Very nice and well built I can see much of the details put in and I like the color effect you have in it to give a more brighter feel but the open roof seems to cut me away from the experience of the full feel of being there, but it's understandable if you ran out of money. Great map overall and probably the best I'v seen and ever will see. Also I'm glad that YOU rebuilt the map seeing that your maps are awesome already! :D

Downloaded and looked around, it definatly feels more like the original PIT from h3. Besides it being a great remake, its one my favorite maps that I miss terribly. Great job

wow dude is this like this map. Very nice attention to adding cover and to make this map enjoyably playable. The changes you made to this map look actually a lot better than how it was before. Now the map isn't just one of those lame competitive maps with no aesthetic value which makes this map nice.

Thanks to everyone above for the compliments. A lot of work went into this map to try and make it the best one ever and I think anyone who DL's it will enjoy playing on it.

Only question so far seems to be the roof. Adding a roof never crossed my mind really. I've been on maps with the Grid roof and it didn't make any difference to the game play and didn't look right to me either. It would have been nice if the budget was there because I think I could have built an acceptable one.

Thanks again for checking out my map, I appreciate it. - ROCK

Hello! This map is awesome and really brought back some memories, the maps layout is just about perfect. was great fun testing and this map is an asset to anyones collection. Great work has been put in to improve, and I know how much time and effort you have put in. Is this only for 5 players? It should be for 4 v 4 I would say and I know there are enough spawns for this to play perfectly. Awesome work ROCK

And, thank you Tim for the advice and some important piece placements. Yea, I had a mind fart there about the number of players, I changed it to 10. Yep. I'd say this re-fit took 3X as long as it takes me to build a new map. I appreciate your support and compliments. - ROCK
