    Map Description
    Welcome to my latest Forge Creation: OCT-AGONY.

    I created this map with Objective games in mind,using the standard formula of having 2 identical bases facing each other on a symmetrical arena-layout.I actually modeled this map off of another ,much smaller map I had made a couple weeks ago,and I suddenly realized how great it would be if I blew it up to this scale...so here we are!

    There are several paths of travel from one side to the other,and there's a good element of verticality going on. The central suspended platform offers a unique spot to cover the enemies base,but you always gotta watch your back.

    Weapons:

    1XPlasma Launcher
    2X Turret
    2x Energy Sword
    2X Gravity Hammer
    2X Sniper Rifle
    2X Concussion Rifle
    2X Grenade Launcher
    2X Focus Rifle
    2X Needler
    2X Needle Rifle
    2X Shotgun
    2X Plasma Pistol
    4X DMR
    6X Frag Grenade
    12X Plasma Grenade


    Vehicles:

    2X Warthog
    2X Mongoose
    2X Ghost
    2x Revenant



    While the heavy abundance of Vehicles and Power Weapons may seem like a lot, the vast scope of the map makes their impact on Infantry less dominating than you might think.


    Also, there are 2 Sniper Rifles,but they've been nerfed to only have one clip each and they only spawn every 180 seconds. We also have the standard 2x Needlers, 2x Needle Rifles, 2x Plasma Pistols,2x Focus Rifles,4x DMR, and plenty of grenades, though the grenades are only found in the bases,and in the central platform.


    Great Lines of Sight, and awesome ease of Vehicle travel on both upper and lower levels make this map flow like a DREAM. The overall feel is like a love child of Standoff,Valhalla,Burial Mounds,and Asylum.


    I did end up using every last cent of my Budget,so I am curious if people find any frame rate issues...It seems to me that, since everything is so spread out,instead of a million blocks all occupying the same space,that it tends to run smooth in my games...but I've not tried it in a split-screen game,so if it bogs down in split-screen, if anyone could report back on that,I'd appreciate it.

    Here's a shot of one of the two Sniper Towers, as well as the Ghost Spawn. Note the "Ribs", inspired by Halo 2's "Burial Mounds".

    Here's a shot from inside the base,looking out...see the Concussion Rifle?...that's also where your Revenant ends up spawning,90 seconds into the match!

    Ah,the old "Risk/Reward" Rocket Bridge...also note the Plasma Launcher which spawns at ground level,directly beneath the Rocket.

    The bases are both highly breachable,as well as highly defensible...the Teleporter there takes you directly into the Sniper Tower...good for getting a leg up on the opposing team,but also makes for a quick exit with a flag,or whatever!

    This map looks like a epic slayer map to play on but, I think it could use some more vehicles and a few more weapons, and maybe a grid roof over the top of the place for effects.

    ...seem to be plenty enough to keep things lively...I wouldn't even know where to begin adding more! :)

    As for the weapons, I am often accused of loading too many power weapons on my maps, so I try very hard to keep that in check...but;

    What else would you think would improve it?

    As for the grid, I have implemented soft and hard kill boundaries to keep people from escaping the map, but I kinda like the open sky...I tried the grid and it killed the natural feel.

    I really recommend PLAYING on this map before casting too much judgment; I'm really not the best screenshot taker, and photos just can't capture the feel of how this map flows...it really is well balanced and FUN!

    I'd upload a video,but , frankly, I don't know how.

    Looks like an amazing btb map! I think i'm gonna have a big party and play some btb maps soon, this is now on the list :D

    I know you said about the power weapons but there seems to be too many power weapons and a lack of normal guns if the map is the size you said it is, il download it and then see for myself if that is the case. Altogether the map looks pretty good have you playtested it alot?

    Thanks! I don't have a lot of people in my friends list that are down for Custom Games, so the most I've gotten on here is 4V4...but I'm sure it would support a full Big Team Battle...It's plenty spacious,and with the lower and upper levels,it allows for a good amount of undetected movement before being attacked,or finding a victim.

    It's also surprisingly enjoyable as a 1V1 "hunting" experience!

    PLEASE; after you DO play on it, don't forget to come back to this thread and tell me what you think! I'm very curious to hear what the public finds,as opposed to what my friends had reported.


    Well, I usually put a lot of power weapons because I usually put a lot of vehicles,and I don't want the vehicles to just run around dominating everyone. But then what keeps the Power weapon people from just running around dominating everyone?---a careful balance of :
    ---1. Other power weapons
    ---2.Clip and Spawn time nerfing
    ---3. Careful construction of cover and line-of-sight features in the map
    ---4. Sheer scale of play area.

    The weapons are , for the most part, spread far apart from each other,and ,for the most part,placed in areas where you run a high risk of dying if you go to retrieve said weapon...then I also put a sword in each base at the Objective spawn/plant area,since the bases are so cavernous,they felt like the needed a little muscle for defense purposes.

    Regarding "Normal Weapons", I usually figure; we spawn with an AR and magnum...and when we die,we drop those...so already there's gonna be plenty of those without needing to add any more,right?...so that leaves us with...what?...DMR's? I put 4 in the map,but I could totally put more...If I just find some things to delete to give me the budget for it. Any other 'normal weapons' I'm missing?

    Oh, and as I said to raptororieon, I don't have a lot of friends who are into Custom Games...so I have gotten in a few great matches on it,but not enough...but I've been forging ever since Forge was born, and I feel like I have a fairly good sense for what works and what doesn't...but what I really get off on is taking my vision and tweaking it to the responses of the people.

    Anyway,yeah: TOTALLY DOWNLOAD IT, PLAY IT, AND COME BACK HERE! :)
