*Turf is Back!* Outskirts is a remake of one of mine and everyones favorite maps from Halo 2, Turf. Turf is such a great map for objective and slayer play and I felt like it was a much needed niche to be filled. So after alot of love, and alot of referencing pictures, videos, and switching over to the old gal to make sure everything is as perfect as I could forge it, I couldnt be any happier with the way it came out. This remake looks fairly accurate. As a an old fan of the original, I've been looking for a solid remake. How much of the budget have you used for this map?
Looks like a very accurate remake. how are the jumps compared to the original? I know there were a few problems with remakes like the first few lockout maps I saw. Does everything still work smoothly in Reach?
This is definitely the best Turf remake I've seen, at least from what I remember, and the aesthetics/efficiency are top notch. My recommendation, based solely on the pictures, is that you remove the shield door and replace it with objects that make it appear as though the doors have already been pushed open. I feel that players will abuse the added protection if the shield door is used. Also, DAE get annoyed at the remake of Lockout on Classic Slayer? I could have sworn there was a jump between 3 level-tower and the ledge leading into mid center (where you can drop down for shotty). In that version they're right up against one another
I may be the only one, but your link is broken. Regarding Map: This is definitely one of the best remakes I've seen, of any map, Scarab part looks a little sloppy, but I suppose that was the best you could do. I mean, you obviously put a lot into this map, if there was a better way, im sure you would have found it. Also, the door to garage seems umm, not bad, but... cheap. In Turf you could not see past it, but I suppose that was the best you could do. May I suggest imitating the door while it was open, so instead of a shield door it would be two tilted walls or something?
I miss those swinging doors. I wish they could be brought back. I miss how you used to be able to manipulate the environment in Halo 2, wish Bungie would incorporate that into the game again.
Yeah, the link is broken. I got Halo 2 after the servers were shutdown so I never really played much of it. But, from what I remember, this seems fairly accurate.
This map is incredibly accurate, and is the best remake I've seen yet, but jeez I really wish we had swinging doors :/ Once the link is up, definite download
This is great and very smooth looking and I always loved this map in Halo 2 it was great and I hope this lives to my expectation! Great job!
wow sorry had no idea the link was broken, oops guys fixed it! Thanks for all the feedback though! I know the doors is a bit of a hot topic, but I wasnt a hundred percent satisfied with it just being two big slabs of slate skewed from eachother but I suppose I could entertain the thought of switching it. To further elaborate on this: In order to have doors that appear "open" with room to fit the Warthog, there will always be a direct sight line into the Garage, I dont think I like that for gameplay reasons. Ive tried negotiating the doors to be easy enough for a Hog to get in, and in my opinion it just breaks up the garage area to much. So sorry but I dont think I will be changing it. Maybe aesthetically, but I dont see doors making it in. [br][/br]Edited by merge: All the jumps are how you should remember them, Classic settings though mind you. The Scarab part in the original halo 2 map look REALLY sloppy lol, i was planning to leave the Scarab out of mine too, I think the pyramid there looks great, it gives the feel of something without it getting too messy in that sectoin and saves him from wasting a load of rocks or blocks trying to re-create something that looks horrible anyway
Thanks for backing me up lol. Yeah I felt the Scarab area was a bit of a cluster fu#k before, I wanted to keep it clean while sticking with the general geometry
I've seen a number of quality remakes of turf, and your certainly looks no worse. But proof is in the pudding, looking forward to running through it to get a feel for it.
OHHHH!! you made that too i love that map, have been having quite a few customs on it over the last weekish, it's hectic, great job :-D
