Concourse Intro: Welcome to my newest map, Concourse. This map is open-roof and asymmetrical. I was inspired to make this map by once again halo reach's campaign. The theme I was going for on this map was a mall / plaza. I typed a really long description for this map, but it somehow hot deleted so now I don't remember what I said...Anyways, there are a few things to know about the map. First, jetpacks are NOT recommended for this map. Second, This map is bigger than it appears. Third, NO, there are no framrate issues due to glass. Special thanks to: JGarb, for coming up with the design of the umbrellas. TOMisHIGH for helping with a few aesthetic pieces. RelaxingGuy, for helping make sure noone could leave the boundries of the map. Thanks to all of the testers, who were: JGarb TOMisHIGH RelaxinGuy Matty the IV ISS Bailey cocacolapwnage Crypocalypse If I missed someone, please let me know. I had a lot of people play this so I don't remember. *IMPORTANT* I put this map through a lot of tests to make sure that gameplay was at its highest. Feel free to download, comment and leave me some feedback. Thanks. Sexy map, it reminds me of the ODST campaign when you are wandering the streets. the stairs look cool be could be made better. Other than that, a very good looking map. Lets hope it plays well.
Another good looking map, my only complaint being that you should try to accommodate jetpacks instead of advising against them. People are going to use them when available whether you say to do so or not. Also, it'd be nice to see you branch out and try some larger maps. Yours always seem to be quite small.
Well, not every map NEEDS to have jetpacks. I forge a certain way and I don't enclude jetpacks. As goes for the size, this map is perfectly sized-Medium. I don't forge large maps...I find it tedious and boring to search for your enemy. And as I said in my description, this map ISN'T as small as it apprears. Besides that isn't my forging style...Thanks for the comments though.
I agree with Elliot, it really does remind me of some of the parts in ODST, which is a good thing of course. However 8ball I really think you should try to stray from "the tree" because its been in 3 of your maps now. I don't mind it but others might be bugged by it. Another great map though 8ball.
Well thanks man, but I felt that with a tree, it gives the map such a nice touch. I utilize the tree is such different ways that I don't think it matters how many times I use it, with the exception that I change the entire map layout. Try not to think to much into the trees in my maps and focus more on gameplay and the difference in the map layout. Thanks for the comment though
It's not whether they need them, it's that they are there whether you want them to be or not. I only suggest trying larger maps because it would be interesting to see how your style translates, and trying to make various types of maps can strengthen your forging techniques as a whole.
I see what you're saying, but I don't honestly even like big maps yet alone making them. I like to keep it simple. If you want to try to co-forge a big map together that would be great. If you have some ideas maybe we could cook up a nice BTB map or something. Just let me know.
Eightball, you nerf-herder! Stop making me look like a n00b! No, seriously, my eyes shot wide as soon as I saw the screenshots. This is downright gorgeous. Asymm is really hard to pull off, but it looks like you did a great job. There are few times where I'll like coliseum walls being used as floors, but I think it works well here because there is so much detail elsewhere, and it probably helps keep the frame-rate up. As the other guys pointed out, try and accommodate for jetpack-users. It might be a pain, but placing soft killzones on all of the platforms you don't want them perching might be necessary. I don't know if you're familiar with the Gears of War 2 map 'Avalanche', but this map's layout reminds me slightly of it, which is a great thing. It feels familiar yet new. I also like your weapon choices. Keep up the great work, and I'd love to see you attempt a BTB map!
To be honest, the pictures do not do this map justice. There is so much more to it than that. I had to check this out for myself earlier. The doors definitely give the map that dynamic feel, a sence of exterior space. The umbrellas were perfectly excecuted to create that casual feel to the map let alone the camping stools-nice touch. And the fact that the map is symmetric add even more punch to it. Looking at the stairs at first I thought that they would be rough and it would kick your screen everywhere if attempted to accend or decend..nope they are suprisingly smooth. Great job on this one. I would much rather bring a nice pair of sandwiches and my girl to this place rather than a DMR, but it's Halo, don't really have that choice. See ya around
I think that every forger has his style map. Eightball has found his unique style. I think that this is great. His maps play well and are very unique. I appreciate that he has found a unequaled way to incorporate a tree into each of his maps. I believe he deserves more credit. congratulations and you got a DL.
Aesthetically, I think the map looks great. I can't really comment on gameplay as I haven't played it yet, so you'll have to show me it sometime
This map looks really nice. I love the whole plaza feeling of the map, the middle tree, the stairs, and especially the umbrellas lol. The map has a good feel and layout for small team games or FFA. My one complaint is that the map seems very colorless despite how well it is forged. I know it is really hard to bring color to forge world while maintaining a high frame rate though. I'll give this a dl and see how it plays out.
I love your style of forging, your mix of aesthetics and gameplay are perfect. Not to mention I love asymm maps, mainly because they are so much harder to forge IMO. Those umbrellas are sick as hell, glad you gave credit to whoever made them. I think you should add a little color to the map though, like color those 3x1 blocks you used for stairs and that large y platform. Other then that great map, you never cease to amaze me, keep it up.
Eightball, This map looks splendid from the pics. How does it play? I am away at the mo but will defo DL upon my return. The tree works for me! Regards DT
The map has a great aesthetic feel in it. I believe it could be a little bit larger and some more paths would sure be useful. Nothing much more to say, there is always room for improvement.
Thanks man, I for some reason, feel that asymm maps are easy to make. I don't know anything about GOW lol sorry. But thanks for the comments. [br][/br]Edited by merge: Thanks Grim, I also feel that these pics don't do the map justice.I really tried to create a unique space for everything in this map to give it a feel of a more human structured map. Also, I LOL'd at that last part Thanks again man. [br][/br]Edited by merge: I agree with you 100% on that first sentence. But, thank you, I really appreciate that you like my maps and that I put a tree in it. [br][/br]Edited by merge: Thanks Stevo, I tried to add you on XBL, but your FL was full... I will send you a message and maybe we could get some games on it. Thanks again man. [br][/br]Edited by merge: The map maybe seems a bit colorless, but really there is so much natural color on it that I felt it was unecessary to add anything extra. Thanks for the comments, let me know how it plays out. [br][/br]Edited by merge: I am very glad you like my forging style, but color didn't seem to be an issue really. I felt that it had plenty of natural colors and adding anything extra would have just been redundant. Thanks for the comments, I have another map coming out probably within the next few days, so keep an eye out. [br][/br]Edited by merge: The gameplay on this map was good. There were many changes and suggestions after testing that I made and everyone seemed to enjoy it very much. If you get a chance to play on it let me know if you enjoyed it. Thanks for the comments. [br][/br]Edited by merge: I laughed a bit when I read this comment..I'll tell you why..First, you can say that any map needs more pathways. Second, the size of this map was not an accident..I did make it this size because it was un-necessary to make it any larger. I don't like forging big maps. Third, the map has plenty of pathways to go and different height variations. Get some games on it then come back and give me some real feedback. Thanks for the comment though.
I joined in on you working on this map the other day. There were so many other people forging around with you that I didn't realize it was yours. It looked pretty sweet from the minute or so I ran around in it...then the game was stopped, so I moved on. Another great job. You definitely captured that outside plaza feel...looks like people may have actually enjoyed their lives in this location prior to a bunch of Spartans clearing them out to turn it into a death pit. Again, nice job!
I agree, I feel like this map is nicely sized and that even with larger maps I seem to come short on money and pieces do to the fact that I tend to try and put in many details to my maps for a better and smoother feel plus also like you said I don't want to have to search for my pray ;D. While it comes to the tree, it just adds a nicer feel to the map, make you feel like your more there and I'm guessing you added the tree for me lol!
Great job Eightball! I really like the feel of normal life where you then kill each other. The map works well with the trees and rocks here and there and crates for cover. Also liking all the different routes that you can take through the map. Only thing i think you could change is giving the stairs one continuous roof going down. Fantastic work though.
