Hello again, fellow hubbers. Today i would like to introduce you to my new map Illium. Illium was designed simultaneously for both competitive gametypes, and invasion. It was also inspired heavily by Headlong. However, the map kindof took off in a different direction, and similarities between this and the classic Halo 2 map are few. That said, I am working on a few additions that will definitely hearken back. Illium takes place on a shoreline in front of a metropolis. Fictionally, this is the saemcity that Cargo Port takes place in, and the Spartans must enter the city via the shoreline a la Illium, before making their way up to the cargo port. The map is named after the ancient city of Troy, or Ilium as it was often called. However, I chose to spell it with two "l"s as I believe t looks better, and the planet Illium in Mass Effect 2 was spelled this way. Today I'm just going to post some screenshots that show off a bit of the map (which is very much unfinished) and show the three phases in invasion. I will update in the coming weeks with action shots and shots that show more detail of the map. This is why I made that Do YOU have Tempest? thread a while back. Votes in that pole are still appreciated by the way. Enjoy! Update 4/15/11: 4-FLAG!!!! Update 4/14/11: Competitive Weapons List DMR x9 Needler x2 Plasma Pistol x2 Shotgun x2 Grenade Launcher x1 Sniper Rifle x1 Rocket Launcher x1 Plasma Grenade x4 Health Pack x4 Mongoose x2 Ghost x2 Warthog x2 Update 4/13/11: Team Slayer screenshots Phase 1: capture the Visitors' Center and establish a base of operations there. Phase 2: destroy the generators Phase 3: the shield is down, capture the core and bring it to the pier.
It looks like a solid invasion map. Just make sure you don't have any spawn points right next to the core like in Cargo Port If I'm online and you need testers, feel free to invite me.
Eh, the way you made it sound made it seem a lot more exciting thatn it really looks. Nah, jk, this honestly looks tremendously amazing. The aesthetics are just really well thought out, but the colosseum walls that looks just so boring. Is there anyway you can spice it up so to speak? I would be glad to test this map anytime possible for, like, 20 times in a row.
Well, when I said the map was unfinished, I meant it. I still have 2000+ budget left, and this is Tempest we're talking about. The new stuff is really gonna spice up the map both gameplay-wise and aesthetically. It will also bring more of a Headlong feel to the map.
I do kinda agree with Cart, which I think I mentioned to you. But, I got my neutral building, and I think I had a role in your deciding it was gonna be a dock, so I'm not gonna complain Anyways, I was sad that we didn't get to play it today. But, ya know, having the attackers have one-way shields between them and their target makes it a tad too easy for the defenders. :/ Anyways, great job again. Can't wait to start the months of testing again... ( Omg... -.-) Good look to you, sir.
Camping stools nao plox. Cones will help too. I'm entirely serious. It will help the feel of it tremendously.
Whoah whoah WHOAH! I have NOT seen this yet? I'm liking what I see and I can see some awesome invasion matches going down here. I am glad you chose Tempest for this. I am correct in saying that it takes place mostly in the middle of Tempest? Is the crashed Sabre included? I can't see from the pics. Looks good so far.
I already have an idea in mind for the pier, and there is already cone hidden on the map. Ill try to put a stool somewhere too. The map takes place on the beach side of Tempest. Somehow, the map still manages to feel quite big despite being less than half the size of Tempest. Expect some more screenshots up this afternoon.
I'm genuinely disappointed this isn't a Mass Effect 2 remake. Anyway, the map looks very nice, and I'm sure invasion will work a treat on it. It's great to see people use the natual geometry of Tempest, rather than just making a floating structure. If you need any testers, don't hesitate to ask.
The maps looking pretty sweet from what I can see. I can honestly say that I wasn't expecting an Invasion map to ever be made on Tempest. If you're ever short on Tester's, feel free to send me an invite.
Well, thanks guys! Chron Ill definitely try to get you into the next test. Katanga's already played it. Invasion played pretty well yesterday, and competitive testing will bregin in earnest as soon as I finish the changes Im working on. I'll at least be sure to post some action shots this afternoon. Thanks to everyone who's helped test so far!
Sorry I haven't been on in a few days, and hope to see the changes you've made since then(even if there are few and just miniscule). The only issue I have is that the nuetral base is can mow down anyone on a big portion of the map. There's just a gap between the main entrance to the visitors center and the crashed sabre/pier that I'd like to refer to as a dead zone. :/
I remember hearing about someone saying that the territories on Tempest make the alarm even when no one is in them. Have you checked and made sure they are fixed?
I've updated the OP with new screenshots! I'm still making changes to the map, but ts been playing quite well despite being in what I would call alpha stages still. It looks like the map will fit snugly in the 6-12 player range for all gametypes. Unfortunately, this is true. I have no idea if/how this can be fixed. Still, Invasion is a hell of a lot of fun here nonetheless, even if the sirens are a bit annoying.
well like others have said, i also think something should be added to the docks. it was very open, and the high ground had a good advantage. I know that you're still adding a lot more to it, I'm just letting you know lol Oh, and on the first phase, there's that like hole you can go into with the tree and water, i can't get out once i fall in there lol i think there's only one rock that will let you jump out. correct me if I'm wrong. So maybe lower the bridges so you can at least crouch jump. I believe i saw a rocket launcher when we were in forge that one time, but i never saw it during slayer and invasion....was it set up for another gametype? or am i crazy? ok, i think that's all i have to say. hope this helps, and can't wait to play this again brah!
The rockets were moved to a less dominating position. I've added rocks to the lower center to provide cover, as well as a crane (that will look familiar to those who played cargo port) to the docks, which provides some cover, not to mention makes sense and looks cool. I've also added some more ways to get out of the planter in the Atrium, although there were already three ways out without even crouch jumping. Also, updated OP with the weapons/vehicle setup for competitive matches.
Oh emm geee psychoduck, this map looks really good, even this early in its production process. It almost makes me want to buy the map pack so i can play on this map when its finished XD!!! Great job man. ~ Rogue
I loved playing on this map last night. I prefered slayer or two team multi flag. It is the first real playable map I have seen that has come out of tempest. I like how the weapons are placed and the vehicle locations. As long as there are no dirty dinosaurs playing on it
