carnage springs Hey, this is one of my first maps in my "HYDRO MAP-PACK" that I'm releasing to you all as a preview as to what is to come. This map is based off of a small, simplistic, community-made, forged, water map (holy sheet) in Marathon. I really enjoyed it in Infinity so I decided to recreate it but put a new spin on it, for Reach's sake. The main purpose of the idea behind the map is to be fighting in an arena but still have a barrier that doesn't completely ruin the scenery from beyond the barrier. Instead of surrounding the map with just walls or shield doors I decided to use large windows and carefully placed antennas so you can get the full view of the ocean, and the waterfall. It's only meant for 2-8 player Slayer (recommended; 6) because of the size for fast, hectic gameplay; which is another reason why there is a sniper, sword, and RL on the map but with all reasonable spawn times. I'd also like to point out this a FULL-BUDGET map, and since it's so small you can expect tons of detailed forging in this. Enjoy. Pics (lots of them): Expect full map-pack release by the end of this month.
Interesting map. I like the layout you have, the overview really helps me to get a better idea of the map. Also, I really like that you took the time to construct a special place for the energy sword. Most people just throw the sword against a wall, but you didn't. The hallway with the antennas used as bars, is really cool as well. The aesthetics look nice and no-one part of the map looks too open. Some of the rock placements seem a bit odd, but it's not a big deal. Simple, creative and interesting. Good work.
Lol almost half ur budget went to the antenna wall. On a more serious note with all these pieces does this wall create framerate lag if u look down the hallway with a sniper at it?, i know that happens in a map im working on
I completely agree with EightBall. Layout was ideal and interesting. Small astetics here and there made the map. Looks fun to play on. I did notice that the rocks right around the curved stairway on your second to last picture looked a bit strange.
Is dat sum fixed sword I see? '_' Seriously though, this map looks pretty interesting. I'm digging the theme of a dam/hydro-electric plant. Interested to see how it plays.
I can probably agree with you. That cover right next to it was my last decorative I could use so I had to find a way to cover up the rest of the building with something else..which was the rock. Nothing is really distracting during gameplay though. And no framerate issues in the antenna hall either.
I love the aesthetic value on this map....yes its small but the map has multiple pathways, different levels, and also open ranges for a very good gameplay that includes all aspects of the halo gameplay...excluding vehicals...the map has utilized the water, metal, and rocks to create an amazing aesthetic map that also comes with a water fall to add the feel of the map...the use of objects is varied and also works with the map at the same time with very nice colors instead of a dull map like most posted...the map is very impressive in looks and gameplay...the map features a kind of a halo reach feel to it somehow...maybe the amazing forging and aesthetics give it that feel but this is a definte download and this should go to matchmaking....keep up the good work...
Tycho, Honestly I would suggest that maybe a block tilting on a 45 degree angle or maybe the idem STRUT would work, not that its a necessary change. And are those flag stands hanging from the ceiling?
I'll see what I can do, but I just finished the next map in the pack and I'll be posting a preview soon so look for that. And yes, those are stands acting as lights. I appreciate all the great feedback.
I luv the location right nxt to the waterfall for the map and the simple not too over the top aesthetics specially with the awnings, stairs and antenna walls. tho since the whole budget was used on a such a small area im wondering how the framerate is considering thats always a problem for me. am wondering how jetpacks would fair on the map considering its size and height also due to its more closed in then open how well dmr combat would work so i guess i really wont know till i go play and see it all for myself but from what you can tell from your post great job.
I like what you tried to do with the stairs and antenna, but the frame-rate really suffers as a result, and that just shouldn't happen on such a small map. Don't feel like you have to use a lot of pieces just because you can. Also, there are a lot of power weapons for such a small area, so I'm not sure how that would play out. Otherwise, this is really an excellent map aesthetically. I look forward to seeing more.
A preview to the new map is up. Please check it out. http://www.forgehub.com/forum/halo-reach-forge-discussion/123638-ocean-plateau.html#post1374258
