Don't we all, brother. I love hanging out on the bridge and the two lift rooms with the sword and a DMR - that's just a nasty approach to the map, as long as you have a little teammate help when you come under fire from more than one person at a time.
Yeah that's true, I suppose I actually enjoy CQC quite a lot when it's mixed with ranged combat, switching between the two quickly is really fun, especially within the same multikill .
That to me was what made Lockout such a classic map. So many times I'd wind up with a sword or shotgun paired with the sniper, and hang out either on the snipe tower or BR tower, sniping people across the map and switching off to the close range weapon to deal with anybody coming up the ramp behind me. Man that was fun. A friend and I used to play that map 1 vs 1 and it was this war of who could control the sword and sniper combo. What I would usually do is snipe him from one tower, then drop down low and relocate to either the other tower or outside the grav lift, and look for him to go snooping around where I shot him from the last time. And of course he would do the same to me when he got the chance.
SWAT/Snipers/Living Dead on Pinnacle. Pinnacle has the worst spawns in the entire game IMO: during SWAT and Snipers, blue team gets spawned on a tiny bridge that is next to a base and red team spawns in a large base. It is easy for reds to take the blue's base and have the blue team spawn on a bridge which is on the base's doorstep. Once on the bridge, you get three options; take the mancannon/teleporter to the middle of the map or take the two sides of the bridge to go to almost absolutely nowhere. Living Dead: the tower is far too easy to camp (1 way to get to the top) for the humans and the game is so slow and unfair for the zombies.
I don't mind Snipers on hemorrhage, I really dig the change of pace once in a while. It's always refreshing when I can lay back and not be on the edge of my seat to have a decent game. But the fact of just how relevant this thread is makes my head hurt as some of the combination they have running right now are beyond belief. 6 team 2v2 Elite Slayer on Pinnacle is gone but we still have BTB on Atom, Snipers on The Cage, and Rocket Hog Race on Paradiso. These go beyond intense, beyond a little crazy, into acute neuroticism.
I just don't like most of the 4v4 TS mas on Reach. Almost every game revolves on one team controlling one area. Sword Base-Grav lift level Reflection- high balcony Boardwalk- Right side walkway Pinnacle- Snipe Tower What happened to the maps of old. Maps where you always had to move. Guardian was so good for making you constantly relocate. I know lots o' people hate the Cage, but for flow, it's one of the better maps out there. Camping and one fighting area are my pet peeves, and I always vote for ones that promote moving around. Like: Zealot Asylum The Cage Countdown PowerHouse Anchor 9 Tempest Condenmed Also, i don't like BTB on Highlands. Every single Blam!in game I play on there turns into a campfest in the buildings. There I'm done
To be fair, lots of people seem to like snipers on The Cage. I'm not among them - I basically hate all gametypes on that map - but snipers is no more intolerable than anything else in that irritating environment. I agree with you on Paradiso/rocket hog race though. That is simply the stupidest map and gametype combo Bungie has ever put in a playlist for any Halo game, and I don't say that lightly. "Hey kids, wanna get stuck in some rocks and bashed with explosives for minutes on end until you randomly die, then respawn and get blasted immediately into the water? Then rocket hogs on Paradiso is for YOU!" It would be annoying enough driving around to get checkpoints on that map with nobody else playing, let alone with rockets flying every which way.
All of the ForgeWorld maps except for Asylum are at best, below par. Sword Base is also the most frustrating map in Reach. One look at the heat map tells you all you need to know. Spoiler Honestly, Bungie/343 or whoever should pay more attention to their heatmaps. If most of the carnage is happening in one area of the map, something's wrong. Oh, and Rocket Hog Race is pretty much awful on anything but Hemorrhage.
I don't mind slayer and bro slayer on it. The games aren't great but the map is so big and sprawling that at least people move around and the action changes quite a bit. The rocky terrain and huge changes in elevation remind me of what would happen if Paradiso was more spread out and less annoying. However, I can't stand one flag on Spire and can't really imagine most objective games being any kind of fun.
Yup, agreed on every count. The Spartan spawn end of the map doesn't get used much but at least when you do venture down there you get a nice helping of power weapons. Gotta say though, there are some nasty spawns on that map for Slayer. You would have thought with that a map that size and with such area division that I'd be safe from getting spawned right on top of, let alone multiple times in a game. Perhaps I just have a little too much faith in Reach spawning in general, if so then it's certainly misplaced.
SWAT, snipers, or elite slayer on pinnacle. multiteam anything on pinnacle.... its simply not big enough for 12 players. I get spawn killed at least 5-6 times a match if its slayer. bro slayer on sword base turns into attack and defend the tiny lift room. I mean its usually like that, but way worse in bro slayer. I don't really hate the rest of the forgeworld maps like most of you forgesnobs though. but, all i make is grifball maps so maybe i don't know what i'm talking about.
I'm going with big bro slayer on countdown. I think I went about three minutes just trying to spawn at one point. Our default areas were being camped by shotty swordy types and any attempt to spawn on a bro was futile due to them never being out of combat or sufficiently far from an enemy. lets face it, 16 players on countdown is a joke at the best of times.
Actually I like it when it's not bro slayer like you describe. I've had a couple of awesome big team games on that map. Yes, it's a bit chaotic, but if you know where to skulk around DMRing and where not to run through like a chicken with your head cut off, it's possible to have great games without ever touching a power weapon or doing anything that unusual. I could see the bro slayer variant being pretty irritating though because of what you describe - 4 vs. 4 bro slayer on that map is probably about as big as such a game needs to be.
