For those of us that enjoy a good game of Firefight, I thought it might be a decent idea to share strategies that we all may utilize during matches. For example... On Beachhead, grab all of the vehicles and use them to block the stairway to the roof of the spawn building. This way, you only need to worry about hunters, skirmishers, and jet packing elites... as well as the bombardment from wraiths in the distance, but if you have all the ordinance... you should be able to take the wraiths out. On Courtyard, grab the forklifts. I usually take one and block off the walkway straight ahead from the spawn and all the way to the right. Then I take the other forklift, and block off the ramp under the walkway leading to the same side because that's where the hunters come up. This makes it extremely easy to deal with 90% of the enemies you face because it forces them to go into a single file line to get to you. The hunters are the main concern... followed by jetpack elites and skirmishers, but they're both fairly easy to deal with. Occasionally the chieftain brute will charge thru the forklift to get to you, but you can explode the forklift to add extra damage to anyone you need help with. Holdout's ideal loadout is the jetpack with a DMR. You can go on the walkway and camp near the door where you come from in the campaign. This spot gives you a view of the enemies that walk up the stairs to get to you. The jetpack allows you to fly over the railing when you're in danger... or quick access to the ammo crate in the main building. Refill and fly back up there. I've gotten 3 hero medals in one game of FF Limited doing this.
I actually have a video of a spot on top of Holdout that glitches the enemies. They will still shoot at you, but none of them will come anywhere near you and a simply dropshield will give you plenty of time to recharge your health should a problem arise. I've had perfect games in full on Firefight, all three rounds with all four players exploiting that. Don't even need a jetpack. Courtyard is so laughably easy to exploit. I know what you are talking about and its pretty much exactly what I do. The ONLY real threat is the skirmishers IMO, because its not until the later rounds that the enemies have any sizable amount of health. I just can't hit those damn fools. It is really easy to break the Corvette map, and get outside the shield barrier if you know what you are doing (uses the dropships, so you gotta wait till the end of a round on most gametypes unfortunately.) Once out there is a spot that you can jetpack to that is beyond the soft kill barrier, and you can just run around up top and wait out the rest of the game. Easy credits, really easy perfectionist medal in case the last round is too much for you. When actually playing I prefer to sit halfway up the ramps to the turrets. Lots of cover, you are near the ammo if you get low so it is simply to restock, and you always have the highground. Plus multiple easy escape routes in an emergency. This and courtyard are by far the easiest levels; courtyard is safer but corvette is easier. Beachhead? I do exactly what you do. Its sooooo easy if you are playing a full four person game! I actually really like the snowy one. Can't remember the name... but is the level that you have to hold out in outside of Halsey's lab in the campaign. I just go up top, hopefully with Sniperfight (for the unlimited ammo ) and lol at them trying to make their way up to me. When the ships drop on top of us? Spam them with grenades and shots like a boss. Its no sweat if you have a team of decent people, its even pretty easy to do solo hahaha.
The map you're thinking of is Glacier... and yeah, that brings up another spot I have on that map. From spawn, if you go out the side doors instead of heading forward... you can jetpack onto the top of the building and stand on the overhang. It has a decent view of anyone heading towards the spawn area, if you peak around the front. I only need to worry about he dropships and wraiths usually. Ghosts can be a pain in the ass as well because they always seem to find you. [br][/br]Edited by merge: There's also two glitches that I'm aware of... On Courtyard, from spawn head straight across. With a jetpack, you can jetpack and crouch into the left side of the metal canopy. On Glacier, there's also an out of bounds spot that's getting frequently exploited as well... On Glacier, if you stay in the middle, I've found you can easily avoid enemies by jetpacking over the rock barriers so the enemies have to walk around except for the occasional jetpack elite. If the entire team sticks together, you can last here quite a while, but if someone dies they'll have a hard time making it back to everyone else. On Beachhead you can get everyone in vehicles and just roam the map. With a jetpack, stealing a wraith is not a problem, and although it can't take much damage, the fire support is helpful and the gunner seat is good for self defense. One shot can easily take out an entire phantom drop. Depending on how long the bonus round is and what enemies it contains, very few may even reach you in the far corners of the map. On Outpost, you can camp the central covenant gun which has only one entrance to everything except skirmishers and jetpack elites, and the human building next to it also only has one entrance which is a highly exposed (to anyone in the covenant gun) stairway up the side. With a jetpack you can hop between the two and for the daring, jetpack up to the sit on the phantom through the bonus round.
It appears that lasting the entire game of Firefight Limited will give you 2,520 Performance cR ( at rank of General )... no matter how bad you do. Then you get all the other odds and ends cR on top of that. I think you get about half of that if you last 10 minutes.
On Overlook I like to jet pack to the top of the big purple device (whatever it is) on the other side of the river. It's a bit hard to land on but worth the effort. Enemies will only occasionally come at you - most of them ignore you completely. Great spot for sniping, rocketing, DMRing, whatever. On top of the pipes on Holdout is a similar decent place to be but you get shot at a lot more.
I don't know why people never camp on the ledge on the right part of Courtyard. By crouching you can dodge everything and you have an overview of that complete part of the Courtyard. Most enemies can only reach you by using the stairs and then they need to walk all the way to you to get a good shot on you. In Sniperfight it is teh pwn.
Yeah, that area - particularly in sniperfight - is ridiculously easy to hold. You only have to worry about jetpacking elites and those irritating skirmishers jumping up at you from an unexpected angle, but even then they are usually kind enough to land right in front of you for an easy no-scope.
Ummm... hello? Isn't that what I said in the first post except adding additional protection with the forklifts?
...which was quickly echoed by me in the next post! It doesn't really matter though, there are about 10000000 ways to make that level stupendously easy to survive. In gruntpocalypse I like to take the forklift and back it up to the ramp behind the far ammo crate and just sit their the whole game for tons of credits. It's really obnoxiously easy to camp.
Strategy for sniper fight, watch the grunts at the start then carefully steal a fuel rod gun from one of them. You now have an infinite ammo fuel rod gun and a jetpack if you're smart enough. In addition if you shoot of the phantom turrets with a plasma launcher or a sniper rifle as they come in, you can just camp the drop zones and destroy the enemies before they even fire a shot. In rocketfight you can also destroy the turrets on the phantoms and camp the drop zones. Needlers can also be surprisingly good against chieftains and elites. On courtyard you can camp at the end of the far walkway and just shoot enemies as they attempt to bum rush you. /repetitive
Oh, I forgot one. Strategy for bonus rounds: make sure you have a jet pack, then fly up on top of the drop ship and rain hell on the covies as they drop out. You have instant cover from all of them (if you retreat to the center of the ship, no one below can hit you, and most of the time you have to be hanging off the edge to even get shot a little bit). I almost always survive the entire bonus round doing that. And when the bonus drops are grunts (like in rocket fight) you can amass some ridiculous medals by just staying on one side and blasting them as they land.
If you haven't noticed, on some maps like corvette and glacier the drop ship might be in a low spot and enemies can actually shoot at you. Also due to some glitch the concussion cannon on the phantom can shoot through the phantom and hit you if you stand to close to the back. The same goes for the drop ship on corvette.
I haven't had that problem on Glacier at all. I could see it on Corvette although if you stay on top of killing the enemies as they drop out, you should prevent them from getting high enough to shoot you. At the very least, just concentrate fire on one side of the ship, and then hang out on that same side so that you use the ship's natural "hump" as cover from anyone on the other side.
The enemies will come out of doors on the walkways up high and start shooting you, and the dropship on corvette doesn't give nearly as much cover as a phantom. It's quite difficult to say on top of killing the enemies when those enemies happen to be hunters. That's the best strategy, but hunters aren't exactly quick to kill.
