Authors: Creech, TheMightyPnut Map Name: Castrum Map Size: Medium Player Count: 2-8, Two Teams Description: First off let me just et everyone know this map was Co-Forged by TheMightyPnut and I. Really the only reason the map took us as long as it did was because we were desperately trying to find a name that suited the map. Pnut decided to present the name "Castrum", which was used by ancient Romans to refer to buildings or plots of land reserved to or constructed for use as a military defensive position, so we went with that. Castrum is both of our first asymmetrical competitive map and we worked hard to make it as good as it can be. We even tested how long it took each side to get to each weapon and how we could make the map more balanced even if you are on lower ground. Gameplay is definitely something we payed close attention to and is what we were most concerned about. I appreciate all the tests that everyone helped us put in on Castrum, I'd write names but there were WAY too many of you. CASTRUM The map is best for Slayer Pro or the presented Slayer variant I've posted. The only difference between my variant and the regular Slayer variant are DMR spawns and NO Jetpacks. Cool map man, I like the setting that you chose with the buildings hanging over the edge of the cliff. looks like it would be a bit glitchy though, but still a good job.
Wow! I love the layout of this map, and the bases are really distinctive. I believe you've captured the feel of a proper map really well, and you haven't just slapped together a bunch of Coliseum walls. However, I'm not too keen on the amount of precision weapons on the map. I believe there are enough for every member on every team to have one - and for this map I don't think they're really needed. Maybe you could try replacing one or two with a Needler? I think Needlers suit this map much better than DMRs do. But that's just my opinion.
I enjoyed the game I played on this map the size is very good, not to big and not to small I like the sight lines that the covered walkways create and the way it works with the existing geometry The spawns work well, the weapons are balanced and its easy to navigate a really good map all round!
Went ahead and gave this map a DL, I'm incredibly impressed even just from the pictures. The video reminded me of powerhouse. One thing that I didn't like was the way the sniper was already placed in an elevated position, giving the sniper no incentive to move?
WE thought about that and even tried to move i, but the map is so open in most places it almost never got noticed or picked up, which sucked because it's a sniper. I might try to move it anyway and put Rockets? up there. Not sure, it seems like nothing else would work well up there because it will still have height advantage.
Wow this map looks excellent. I'm downloading this right away. But one thing, it looks like there's a lot of power weapons for a map this size. I mean it just seems like there wont be many strait Dmr battles here, the variety of power weapons might hurt the overall game play. Looks great though!
The architecture on this map is really beautiful. A nice big map with plenty of cover and aesthetics. The only thing I think might be a problem is framerate or lag due to z-fighting. Only, of course if there is any? Other than that this map looks outstanding structurally. Good work.
Props to all who had a hand in forging this map. I downloaded it about a week ago and have put it into rotation at my local gaming sessions. everyone seems to think this is bungie map, until i show them otherwise. good job ascetics: 9 /10 originality: 10 / 10 lag factor: 7 / 10 game play: 10 / 10 In our FFA sessions this map is pure chaos.
I really like this map...I do agree with some of the other commenters that there are too many power weapons on the map, but that aside, this is a very well forged and well thought out map...
Very nice map. I played it with friends and it was mind-blowing! It gave me new ideas for my forging projects so in a way, you are and inspiration! lol
This is an amazing map, the way you guys created the buildings is just awesome and it's also refreshing to see there are actually differences in being part of the blue or red team (according to the weapon placement). There is this really garden look and feel to the map which I also highly appreciate. Great job, keep up the good work! You have my download. (AND MY AXE!) Sorry but I had to say that I'm a huge LOTR fan
Very nice looking map About the weapons: Maybe remove either the snipe or the rocket. And then put the snipe/rocket by the sword spawn and sword on top?
This maplooks great. A well developed structure, plenty of paths and shelter available, and has potential in many playlists. I give a high 9/10
Creech hasn't been on since a day after he posted this map. He's not going to be able to pay you back.
I have always wanted to create a map in the area this one has been made in, a job well done I must say! Looks like a really fun map with some architectural differences from most maps.
I gotta say you used that space up on the canyon wall particularly well, probably better than the map I made there. Though I also gotta say that geeeeeeez man there are DMRs freakin everywhere, seems a little excessive, especially considering all the DMR starts these days. I'd say mix those out for some other small arms to add a little variety, whether or not you already have other weapons on the map (a weapons list would be nice.) There does appear to be alot of power weapons on the map, though the positioning seems fine besides the standard problems of one team getting to them first. An easy fix for that problem is to just set the weapons to not spawn at start. Overall, the map looks great, I'll give it a dl and a go.
With just 1v1 I was able to force the blue team to spawn at the red flag in CTF with only 3 kills. It would be much easier in 4v4. Is this spawning behavior what you want on your map?
If you're playing CTF in a 1v1, then you're doing it wrong. And if you read my post above, the creator hasn't been active on ForgeHub for many months. I know he's probably still active over at his primary source of forge maps, XForgery, so you could probably find him there and give him whatever feedback you have.
